Amazing! This relationship won't last long anyway. Both appear to be sinking ships. Not sure who is in worse shape...Santander or The Revs?

Spanish Banks Bleeding Cash Cloud Bailout Debate: Euro Credit

Spanish banks, already hooked on cheap European Central Bank loans, are hemorrhagingdeposits as the government debates whether to seek a bailout.

Households and companies drained 26 billion euros ($34 billion) from Spanish bank accounts in July, driving the ratio of loans to deposits among lenders to 187 percent from 183 percent in December and 182 percent a year earlier, according to data compiled by the Bank of Spain. Shrinking deposits undermine the ability of banks to support economic growth by lending to companies and consumers.

Figures from Spain’s banking association showed deposits for Santander’s Spanish business dropped 6.3 percent in July from June, while BBVA’s slumped 7.1 percent, said the association, known as AEB.
Santander said the decline in July was partly due to a drop in repurchase agreements. BBVA spokesman Paul Tobin also attributed the bank’s deposit slide to repos, saying the data cited by AEB was for its operations in Spain, Portugal and the wholesale business elsewhere in Europe and New York.

Reading tweets and posts that truly upset you..is like riding on a moving train passing a scene where people are tossing babies onto the tracks.

You can scream all you want out the window but A. It won't make the individuals stop and B. See A

To be fair, LD42 is right in this specific case.

Good point by Kyle McCarthy on Twitter... there could be more to this than meets the eye. Could this possibly have anything to do with financing a new stadium?

I dunno, I don't think it's crazy to believe that when the team's coach and Pele are part of the press conference, it's a more significant announcement than "Official Bank".

Thank you Mr. Achowat for the confidence in my abilities and your suggestion that my hard work could lead to the reward of Intern of the Month. ::Fingers crossed::

Intern of the Month comes with many perks including reserved parking spot only 1.5 miles away, instead of the standard 3.25 miles away. Photograph on the Intern of the Month Hall of Fame. Finally, free jersey of our choice. Finally can get that Gostowski jersey!

But they didn't market this as anything. That was all fabricated in the minds of fans.

Agreed. I could only see that under the following scenario...

Revs announce they have financing for new SSS from Santander which then will help a local community agree to have the SSS built. After much hype and before the PW and permits are filed Santander is crushed even deeper by the European Debt Crisis...thus KSG loses financing..and the entire SSS stops dead in its tracks.

KSG can then spin this as it wasn't their fault...economic reasons have justified it's just not the right time for this project to move foward. Something 99% of world has known for some time. Something like this could be used just as another way to extend the hope to fans that a SSS will be built. Who knows?

That, for the record, would count as "trying real hard" but things "not working out"

Just like the sponsorshiop of "CMGi Field" that lasted about 6 months. By the time the Patriots season started, that goose was cooked and Gillette was on board. The Revs were the only team to play their home games under that name. Well, the USA was the home team vs Holland back when we used to get international games, but that hardly counts.

Pele used his notable influence to have Long removed from the Cosmos? Who is Long?

Can Pele similarly use his notable influence to have other individuals removed from management positions on other teams?

That scenario seems pretty feasible to me, sadly.

Lots of banks like the idea of jersey sponsorships because of the goodwill generated by supporters and loyalty. Based on the research I've done, the ROI however is murky at best and something like this is usually pursued as a passion of a senior manager or executive with the budget to spare rather than a measurable marketing activity. Although, it's good to see Santander sponsoring segments like MOTM and game day sponsorships, to extend the ROI a little more.

I suspect all the speculation about this all having something of as yet unspoken significance is much to do about nothing I must say the amount of fire power present at this event is way out of proportion to the team just getting a new sponsor. Sort of makes ones nose twitch. :p Hey, we need something to stoke our interest other than discussing the odds of winning the Wooden Spoon.

I don't think this is a typical situation for Santander, looking for ROI primarily.

They are basically rebranding their Sovereign acquisition and that's not going to be successful without some marketing/advertising to develop name recognition in the marketplace (of which Santander currently has very little).

My guess is that all they are trying to do is to get New Englanders to see the name more and more and start to see it as something less "foreign". This seems to be a pretty good bang for the buck (probably fairly low).
This is much more about the Revs helping (not without compensation and some mutual benefit) Santander, not the other way around. Since Pele is on their payroll, this seems to be exactly the kind of thing they pay him for. The rest of the "firepower" is the ancillary benefit of having hired El Rey.
