If anyone knows the ZZ Top / Troll looking guy's name that would help too. He's incredibly unprofessional, antagonizes fans he doesn't like and intimidates them. I know he's received complaints before because I overheard him laughing about it with another guard last year. His rudeness and lack of common sense is menacing and it reflects poorly on the team to have him represent them for security.
Tex (Tom) is one of the most lenient guards you will find at PPL. Yes he enforces the rules, but lets us get away with more than most of the other guards. If you have to file a complaint, it's probably because you did something stupid.
he is one of the most respected ushers/guards in the building. in fact, I wrote an email complementing him last week
Someone is complaining about Tex?!? Basically he has 4 rules... 1. No non-Union jerseys 2. Don't stand on the seats 3. Take your hat off during the SSB 4. Be reasonable about the language I have never seen him treat anyone unfairly.
To be fair, Tex has been turning into kind of a douche this season. He used to be much more hands-off, but I've seen him start shit over nothing with people.
That's only because the front office has been coming down on him about the language. The FO forgets that we can be foul in TRE and Tex has just been doing his job.
Surely you cannot be talking about Tex. He is fantastic. He lays down the law when he needs to but he really looks out for the 138/139ers. Are you talking about the guard b/n 138 & 139?
Yea the FO is REALLY having them cut down on language. Tom is honestly a great guy. Just two games ago a regular in our section was about to get the boot from the yellow shirt security guys because of language and Tom stepped over and said he'd handle it. He spoke to him, let him stay, kid didn't say a word the rest of the night. He's like our big dad out there. But again the problem is that this year they've gone nuts over the F word. Tom comes out to our viewing parties in South Jersey, and he is far from a chior boy with his language. But when it's your job on the line you do what your bosses tell you to do. Cut the dude some slack and understand that he's got people breathing down his neck to get up our asses about saying F***. He's just trying to keep his job and home, we'd all be doing the same thing.
he had it out with 2 guys in the walkway behind 138 during halftime on sunday. not sure what it was about
I like Tex but he's definitely not like last year. He freaks out every time over the "effin mental chant" and the "suck on my balls" chant. I usually move over to 136 after half time where no one seems to care about those chants...
It's actually refreshing to see an employee care so much about the image of the organization that he would go out of his way to confront a problem that doesn't seem to want to go away no matter what resources are thrown at it. Tex is one of us and he looks out for us, but that doesn't mean we should expect special privileges with him. At the end of the day, he has a job to do. Laughs that there would be some on here that would complain to the FO about an usher that is just doing a fine job rather than admit being a fault in the conflict and toning it down. Look in a mirror. They should confiscate your river end tickets which you are apparently in violation of. Tex ISN'T fair... well that's life as you see it. There are no personal first amendment rights on somebody else's property. you can adhere to the rules of common courtesy or you can go elsewhere. As for intimidation, the usher berating a group of fans after they have been acting out of line might be necessitated once in awhile. You don't know what started it, so don't assume they did nothing. I don't think an usher would put themselves out like that over nothing. They have a responsibility to protect other fans from each other. Otherwise, we would not even have ushers except for medical purposes?
I am fine with Tex/Tom. He had a major motor cycle accident many years ago and has more back pain than last year. The day after games he often can not walk; this may also make him more jumpy than last year. But I believe he is fair and is someone I don't want to lose in 138 (if I come back next year..).
I'd like to thank this Tex/Tom guy. I know Philly has a rep but I always tell people Union matches are a touch classier, we don't have to be know as 'those' "philly fans". keep it classy Philly
You can make a complaint, but if I were FO, I'd certainly thank Tex for making a few classless arrogant individuals uncomfortable with themselves and unwelcome back at PPL. I am not just a company man or a robot. I know that there can be ushers in some arenas that are a waste of space. by taking no interest whatsoever in job performing, they are usually just there to punch a clock. Then there could be the problem of an usher taking the job too personally, like they have some kind of supreme authority to dictate who gets to sit where and stand and cheer and when. I've had personal complaints with ushers who decide to take the number or section on a general admissions event too seriously because they thought it was their job to perform ticket duties and individual seating assignments. However, Tex seems to be one of the most professional and courteous employees, and he does not overreach his authority. What seems so cool about him is that he treats all people with dignity and respect, whether he knows you or not, he also seems to have a personality the fans can relate to. I have no problems with union security in general, they keep everything on the level and they never hurt anybody or ruin the fun so to speak. If you fault him just because he manages to do a lot of what is required of him without overstepping his bounds, then I don't know what to tell you. you are totally clueless.
That's quite interesting - given the fact that he had a problem with me escorting my elderly guest through the RE on my way to 127 in 2010. I know he was doing his job, and I grew tired of people walking in front of me when I had season tickets at the end of a row. But I am nearly crippled myself and didn't appreciate being told to walk nearly 3/4 of the way around the stadium when they had a perfectly good route beneath the RE which couldn't be used because the players were warming up. I'm still bitter about the FO's handling of my situation. They lied to me so I chose not to renew my season tickets. My only interest now is in viewing MLS soccer on television and internet. Don't expect to read any sympathetic words from me when Union moves to another city.
if you are nearly crippled they have great seats and accomdations for you. I have a wheel chair/walker bound friend and the Union take great care of him. If you are too stubborn to take advantage of it, that's on you and you will be treated like any other fan.
Random side note for TRE, the chica guard in 140 is awesome. Really nice, talks to us nonstop, and would most likely let us get away with murder............hmmmmm.......that brings up an idea.....
