This kinda makes me puke. Thompson is a classic MLS 1.0 spaz, all motor and no clue. And he's all into the Jeez; the dude is not a boss.
You know if we sub him in...commentator Dan will say, "Fire are going to the Wells"...and then the second time, "Fire are going to the Wells again"... I hope this helps to lessen the shock a little...
No offense but if he's into Jeez, wtf does that have to do with his soccer abilities or lack there of?? I love how some of you are all about freedom of speech and expression and religion unless its something you don't agree with.. childish immature and classless.
but who is ionprovisioner? Seems to be an out of stater, why are you lumping him in with "some of you" ? Just call that one person out on their apparent distaste for the new guys religious activity. IP's post started out great, loved the MLS1.0 Spaz and all motor bit, but the rest was for lames.
Heh, thanks for the critique. My beer was showing. I am an out-of-stater. I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana when the Fire were announced, and in Houston by the time the team kicked off in '98. The last 10 years I've lived in southeast Michigan. So, I'm someone who's had to dig to follow this team - trust me, finding current information on the Fire in Houston in 1998 was not easy, forget about watching the team play much. Of course I saw most of the first playoff run; that team was my first love in domestic football. I don't make much money, and I have a wife and three tween daughters. I don't have the money or the free time to get to games, but I watch religiously, comment when I have something to say, and think about the team just more than I should. I'm not sure I'm meeting whatever authenticity test you're imagining. I do know that I love this team. I want them to compete for every trophy. I get frustrated when the people who are getting paid to work in the Holy of Holies are all, "Listen, dude, this is a jaahhhhhb and informing you what's going on is a haaaaassssle." I stand by my assessment of his talent, if not my public disdain for his religion. The dude's three lungs, two legs, and no soccer brain. I can imagine tactical uses for him with this team - defensive wing sub when holding a lead, etc. - and I suppose we needed a warm body to free Orr Barouch to pursue his destiny in Israel. But he's not a player I ever imagine getting excited! about as an acquisition. The best I can do is 'meh.'
Should have done better with his shot near the goal but other than that he did okay for his first game.
Wells was pretty woeful in his first appearance. Much less optimistic about the trade after that performance.
Well the trade let us loan Barouch out, so it had that going for it. Also, I read somewhere (forget where now), that the front office is beginning to worry about salary cap problems next season. Could be that they just needed to make some room, and this let them do that. We should also cut him some slack, he's been with the team what, 3 days? hardly enough time to learn the team and its playing style
I'm with ionprovisioner, I don't care for Tebow types and Wells loves the guy: "He's an inspiration to anybody who loves Jesus, especially to an athlete who loves Jesus,", Puke.
I'm gonna go ahead and assume you didn't read the whole thread before posting this. Or possibly you were engaging in some sort of post-ironic dickish comment about dickdom. Either way, thank you for your kind attention, as always.
I thought it was funny and harmless. Amazing posters being offended by Ion when virtually every other thread here has multiple "******** off" posts. And nothing is more lame than using the phrase "It smacks of.."
OK, it's the exact same thing as the reason some people don't like Mexican, Ghanaian or any other player. Wells Thompson is a below average to journeyman MLS player that will be out of the league in 1-2 seasons because the league has passed him and his type of player by. Like him or dislike him on that fact, because of his choice in invisible friend or lack thereof.
