Keep in mind that Goltv overhead cost is down plus they have the HD fee in TWC, Directv and Comcast. Do not count them out yet. Somebody is going to end-up buying them some where in the near future. TWC is a possibility.
Directv has no doubt just massively cut whatever fees it was paying to GOL TV, and as far as I know, the channel will now be SD only on Directv. And any sale at this point has to be at fire sale prices, no?
The decision to remove GolTV has not been finalized or formally announced, because when I called DirecTV customer support, the CSR could not find any formal statements by the management on the move. So, however remote the possibilities, there is still a slight chance if the complaints reach a critical mass DTV will have to keep Gol in the Sports Pack. Now is your chance to make a difference, let DTV know you want Gol and the Bundesliga. Don't be a pansy, make a difference! DTV: 1-800-531-5000
I'm pretty sure the email I received from DirecTV served as a formal announcement, else they wouldn't have sent it. Thx, Jay!
Same here. I copied and pasted from an email above. This was a direct reply to me but I emailed after receiving the email from DirecTV, which was a press release. I will say this, though. If you want DirecTV to remain in the Sports Pack, you should email DirecTV. You should tell them that their press release is inaccurate: there are not other options for the WC qualifiers that Gol TV shows, nor are there other options on DirecTV for Bundesliga. The key point to stress is that they are currently showing Gol and BeIN in HD, so it makes no sense to cut Gol from the DTV HD offerings. I already emailed them about this. I do have En Espanol already, so it makes no difference to me if Gol is in either although I do want Gol to survive and know that this is more likely if they stay in the Sports Pack. More importantly, another SD channel doesn't do me any good. I will only watch Dortumund if that is the case and seek HD options elsewhere for Bundesliga and WC qualifiers.
On GOL TV right now there a bottom scroll ( B. M.- Stuttgart match), that DIRECT TV will "cancel" your access to "over 500 live" games come Sept. 13.
After several emails this weekend from / to directv , they called to confirm that GolTV will still be available in HD on 456 after 9.13.12. Of course, you have to have the spanish package to view.
Here is what I received back from DirecTV after I replied to their initial email that I posted in this thread or elsewhere (there are too many threads going about the same topic): Thank you for writing back about GolTV. While we no longer offer GolTV in HD, I have forwarded your email to DIRECTV Management Team so that they can have a record of your request. While DIRECTV Management is trying its best to follow up with each customer individually, I can assure you that every suggestion, complaints, and inquiry from our customers is reviewed to determine what changes should be considered. We are committed to providing the best in HDTV programming and to continue to add new channels and programming. We are in constant discussions with various program providers to increase the number of high definition programs we offer. We respect your time and appreciate the opportunity to address your concern.
Just got off the phone with DirecTV they assured me I do not need the spanish pack because its going to be on regular programming pack im assuming choice or above and will be in SD not HD the rep said it will be on ch. 456 I didn't ask about ch. 627 but good news if you ask me sucks we are loosing it in HD but at least we will keep GolTV on english packages also.
I wouldn't trust that rep. Why would DirecTV drop Gol from a sports pack and then move it into one of their choice packages, which is an increase in households? That doesn't make sense. I think DirecTV is very good about fielding questions but very few of the reps know anything about programming. I spent nearly 45 minutes on the phone with them before the Olympics, when I called to ask about the Soccer Channel. The rep insisted that FS+ was the soccer channel. Yes, I told her, it has Soccer Channel in the name, but it's not the same thing. The only demotion for Gol other than being dumped from the lineup is to En Espanol/Spanish packages. If Gol continues to offer SAP then DirecTV will offer English SAP, as they did with Fox Deportes until Fox Deportes stopped.
The rep was well informed, she also mentioned DirecTV had no info of it being removed or "cancelled" as stated on GolTV by GolTV, during a game there was scrolling letters on the bottom stating DirecTV was cancelling GolTV & to call 1-888-777-2454. The rep then stated it was remaining on English & Spanish packages on 456 & im certain she also said 627. I was on the phone 5-10 tops she sounded like she knew was she was talking about never hesitating unlike other reps who make you wait because they hesitate & are unsure.
The rep also stated it will be in SD not HD. If we keep calling maybe they can keep it in HD. It makes sense to be on Spanish & English packages because DirecTV won't be paying that much as they were when it was on Sports Pack not even close to that. Maybe we keep GolTV till it goes out of business or gets sold probably to beIN Sports (would make the most sense, logically). I miss Fox Deportes that should have stood in Sports Pack and added Espn Deportes there too.
456 is in SD right now . It was in HD yesterday during the Bundesliga games. The rep stated that will remain as is on 456 - when they broadcast in HD - we will get it on 456. 627 is going away. I guess we will know in 10 days.
hahaha did oliver write that? Yeah, I'm joking but that's a really inflammatory press release. Nothing in there is actually false, but it's half-truths.
This is f***ed. So, they are basically downgrading a channel from HD to SD. Nice f***ing precedent DirecTV.
It seems we the fans were not heard, I got a response also stating that they guarantee our opinions being heard, bunch of bs if you ask me. There is no need to get the Spanish pack especially if none of the channels are even in HD and $15 bucks is a little much on top of $12.99 for the Sports Pack & whatever package you pay for already so your looking at $130 - $150 a month depending what package you have. Screw that, no thanks DirecTV
Instead of getting an english base package like choice extra or choice ultimate, get a spanish base package like optimo mas or mas ultra. You get most but not all of the english channels you get with english package, plus spanish channels are all free. I didn't need sports pack up until a month ago because fox soccer came with it too, but i had to get it since bein english wasn't included.
TWC El Paquetazo has FSC, FSC+ & GoltvHD. If they get to carry beIN, I very convince that both beIN english and Spanish will be added to El Paquetazo. Sources are telling me that TWD will continue to carry GoltvHD. How great would it be if TWC decides to invest on GoltvHD? TWC Spanish package does lack some international sports, and by getting GoltvHD, they will have access to some international sports that will be attractive to the spanish speaking audience. At this point, I am convince that beIN is not going to sub-license any of their international rights. TWC offers El Paquetazo at 29.99 promotion for a year with no contract on no HD charges. In addition, if you have tivo, you can get a cable card at for only $2 a month. So, I am hopping this is a no brainer for TWC, and that a deal should be signed by no later than October 31, 2012. Any thoughts?
