HUGE news about Rogers buying TheScore in Canada. We are left with a fight between Rogers and Bell for everything. I for one am glad that BeIN Sport is entering Canada. Competition is good and we need a third company to compete against the big 2.

This is really frustrating. What are they waiting for? Just get the deal done and put the channel on TV.

Hey guys, sorry my friend has no new info on the current situation at TLN... I’m pretty sure the CRTC is the one delaying the process of BeIn Sport launching in Canada. If I get any info I will definitely let you guys know

If its just a rebrand this is not a crtc matter this week Diva rebranded to Lifetime while Cave to H2 the crtc can't do anything if its a rebrand and they stick to there license agreement.

If Oliver would like to keep posting he doesn't need to create over 10 different sock puppets. Let him use his regular username.

It looks like Dante removed some posts from one of the sock puppets that was in here before. That's what he was referring to, not you.

I disagree that the CRTC is screwing up anything. You want a channel in this country, you have to play by CRTC rules. I want to watch my footie, but not at the expense, even entirely theoretical, of BeIn getting some sort of free pass on anything. BeIn can do a million things with these rights that do not need to involve the CRTC, from subleasing to streaming to buying minority stakes in other channels. If they do something that does involve the CRTC, like applying for a new channel or trying to buy more than 30% of an existing channel, or trying to buy a smaller minority stake that would nevertheless trigger a Canadian ownership no-no, then it's BeIn's problem, not the CRTC's, since the rules were there before BeIn bought the rights. I might add, it would've only taken an intern, a computer, and an internet connection for BeIn to find out that this could happen.

The fault lies 1st and foremost with the leagues selling the rights and 2nd with BeIn's amateurish approach to everything. I wholeheartedly hope that an Arab Spring of some sort gets to Qatar and we get rid of the whole bunch.

Over soccer rights? I'm not sure what you're trying to say here but the way it's currently worded it sounds like you'd like a government to be overthrown so you can watch soccer on tv in Canada.

Well, Ligue 1 has a match per week on TV5. Serie A is shown on RAI. La Liga is completely shut out however only a few select matches have any sort of appeal(of course the two El Clasico's, perhaps the Madrid derby, throw Valencia into the mix). I don't know that there is a sense of urgency to get things done based on the popularity, or lack thereof, of the leagues in discussion. The Premiership is still king in Canada and will continue to be so, followed by the UEFA Champions League, the World Cup, and the Euro's (in whatever order) and each one of those properties is spoken for at the moment for a number of years. Don't get me wrong, I love watching La Liga and am keen on seeing how PSG is going to do this season. For a number of years I happily gave bell $320 or so to watch the Liga ZON Sagres (Portuguese soccer - I'm a Sporting supporter) so it's not like I don't care, I do, but when it comes to these big companies looking to make a profit, only a few entities will do that, and what beIN has rights to just isn't going to be overly missed by the majority of the soccer-watching public in Canada...
