Now, now, they're only "the wealthy" to us - to the rest of the republicans, they're just the middle class, small business owners, and "job creators" - who hope to be really actually what-they-call wealthy like their overlords the Kochs and Addelson, etc. one day. And they can if they just apply themselves and change all the laws to keep all their own money (and yours) and stop all this "entitlement nonsense" from happening

That's what they were so good at from Nixon up to G.W. Bush. I mean, that's all they were from Gingrich on - their ideas, when they had any, were stupid, but the message was always on.

For whatever reason, they've sucked at it since Katrina. My guess is that their message had been really targeted to rural/suburban/exurban white men over 35 but under 65, which was a reliable sweet spot in terms of receptiveness to the message and GOTV. They're becoming less of a sweet spot, obviously.

Percent of white Americans who will admit publicly to such behavior? About 2%. Percent who instinctively wish to chant USA when they hear an immigrant accent? I dunno, about the 60% or so of whites who will support Romney?

To which the reply will be not so, I'm not racist and I like Romney, and so forth.

To which I will say, those are your fellow supporters, that is the party that you support, so obviously you're not working real real hard on this anti-racism thing.

I'd put those who'd admit it a bit higher, maybe 5%-8%, but we'll never know for sure. Is it the absence of available data (hard numbers, percentages and the like are impossible to gather for things like this) that keeps this from being a major topic of political conversation?

Cowardly News Network? The camerawoman (an employee of the network, I'll assume for now) ought to have been interviewed right then and there by another CNN employee.

JohnR, I think you have the qualifications to present this to the thread. Thanks for bringing it to our attention ;)

On the other hand, there's piece of major hot-mic stupidity from a now former-Yahoo journalist:

And while that might be true, no one should utter such a sentence with mics in the same room. To its credit, Yahoo fired the guy this morning. I imagine that VFish will be yapping about this for years to come.

And to the credit of the "liberal media," no one is going to hire him for triple his former salary, as in the case of Juan Williams.

I saw this on the GOP platform this morning: "...the worst instances of environmental degradation have occurred under government control [of land]".

Yeah! Stupid national parks/forests/refuges/seashores/marine sanctuaries/wilderness areas/areas of critical environmental concern/wild and scenic rivers/heritage areas/historic register sites/battlefields! Stop trashing the environment!

I agree with you except for one part of that - national forests are rampant with logging companies. they are not quite as well protected as the name would imply. too often though, federal agencies (forest service, mms (or whatever the heck they are now), blm, bor, etc.) are given resources to "manage" - i.e. protect, regulate, exploit, etc. in a way, they are given conflicting missions (i.e. make money from the resource, but also regulate and protect it) - and we really saw this with BP's gulf leaker and that's a big reason mms was split up and renamed.

What's interesting is that's how my wife saw it but not how I did. I saw, after the nays, the Paulites chanting in protest and being shouted down by the lemmings with chants of USA, USA. To me, the fact that the speaker was fromPuerto Rico was coincedental.

Either way, it's embarassing as hell

you can subtract the Fox Newsbots. They would have been watching Fox already. O' Reilly is going to be breaking out the fall "No Spin" windbreaker and knit hats for all the good little Patriots in the audience.
