2nd goal was 100% on Tierney

Who else KNEW we would ******** up a 2 goal early lead. The only surprising part is just how fast we ********ed it up. I hate the entire backline, I hate Reis, I hate having no faith in this team even with 2 goals up, it's just pathetic.

Higuain is pretty freaking amazing though...

As frustrating as going from up 2-0 to behind 3-2 is, I find it hard to fault the Revs on those FKs. Higuain's a beast.

No excuses if they give up defensive fouls in the 2nd half, though....

Slightly off topic but the Ace ticket commercial that they have been running at half time is one the lamest commercials EVER! Did some junior high school students write that one?

Our defense leaves much to be desired.

Apparently both teams have donkeys making web updates tonight, because as of this moment the top story headline on the Revs site is Final: Revs 3, Crew 3, while the Crew's says Crew get goals from Higuain and Arrieta to beat Revs 4-2.

Revs' continuing ineptness simplifies the decision to give up our season tickets after 16 years. Too many disappointments, starting with a lack of ownership support, even in the good years.

What formation were the Revs playing when Columbus scored their fourth goal?

There's not really much to say. Again. Revolution has nobody who can take free kicks like Higuain. Arrieta is a better forward than McCarthy is a defender. I say this as a McCarthy apologist; he got schooled. That doesn't change the fact that Guy can't finish. (Rowe apparently missed a sitter as well which the crack camera crew missed.) Alston and Tierney are still projects not worth continuing. Soares and Sene continue to needlessly give the ball away. We lost because we aren't as good a team.

    A couple side points.
    • Burns in his halftime interview said what I think we all speculated to be true: We will take Toja, and may or may not trade him depending on the offer. Cool. If they trade him, the guy we get better be young, durable, and excellent.
    • I suppose we deserve the rookie ref, but just once, I would like to see a game in which the ref didn't figure in the scoring.
    • I think we need another starting forward. Sene has too many weaknesses in his game to start, and would be best saved for a situation in which the game was wide open.
    • I thought our midfield played well, and Benny in particular added a lot.

    • This defense is beyond frustrating. Soares and McCarthy are simply too inexperienced and prone to silly fouls or mentals lapses. I would like to see a veteran centerback on this team to partner with either Soares or McCarthy next year. The person that doesn't stay in the starting lineup takes Barnes' spot as emergency defender and the Revs drop Barnes. I think I would perfer McCarthy to stay because he distributes the ball so calmly and nicely.
    • I'm tired of Alston despite him being a "former all-star" and "former USMNT call-up." He's quick and can defend but he offers nothing offensively. His options on the ball are (1) run into a player from the opposing team, (2) run out of bounds or (3) put in a terrible crot (shot-cross option). At least when Tierney has the ball I have some hope (although its mostly misplaced).
    • I hate Heaps' panic mode tactics. Going to 3 in the back with all attackers reaks of inexperience.
    • I want Diego to be successful but I fear that he's too small. He gets pushed around all the time in this physical league. That having been said, I thought the penalty was a rather weak call.

I ********ing traveled 45 mins almost an hour with 2 delays, sat in the empty Football Factory by myself to watch this pathetic excuse for a team go up 2-0 and lose 4-3. It was so bad Jack pre-poured me three beers, left, and told me to clean up after myself on they way, out. I brought my wing plate back to the ********ing kitchen. I get up at the half to take a piss and the owner (forgot his name, good irish guy) was like "hey thyre winnin 2-nil finely!" and I told him they were now down 3-2 the look of pity I received was just shameful. Part of me is telling me to stop doing this to myself, but the other part is like dont give up now, itll be sweeter when they win a title. Im gonna stick it out. My dad took me to see the 1-15, 6-10, 2-14, 5-11 Patriots. Last week Jack was telling me about the 70s when Man U was relegated to the second division, I understand all of this, and frankly when I was growing up in the late 80's early 90's most of our teams except the Bruins were terrible but the success of the aughts decade has spoiled us as fans. Im gonna take it in stride but damn if it doesnt hurt. On another note, if you EVER find yourself available in New York, I highly recommend you stop by The Football Factory inside Legends downstairs at 33rd and 5th and go see what Jack's got going on with live games from every major and semi-major league, cup, and international in the world, and he really appreciates the MLS fans too. (theres only a few of us nut jobs) This place is truly the model for everything a soccer bar could and should be. Im doing my best to represent the commitment and passion of our club in the city every week. ********! sorry I just had to get that all off my chest. These ********in Revs...

Bengston looked good... Best game I've seen Benny play in a while.. Reis couldn't do a damn thing about 3/4 of the goals...

Better game from him. 3 goals scored, which is great but the revs are 0-2-3 in the games Benny plays central mid. Eventually they'll figure it out.

Most teams don't score on those free kicks and we win a game like this.

Senne is becoming a detriment out there and either needs to play deeper or drop to the bench. I'd like to see Fagundez get more time. His movement is much better than Senne's.

The defensive issues are organizational. Although the last goal looked like McCarthy's fault, I think if Soares was a better defensive partner he would have recognized the threat of a through ball and closed space to McCarthy while calling for both to drop. Soares had the better view of the potential danger and could have acted to negate it.

The only thing I consider Sene good for is half-assed trade bait for a decent CB.

Revs go up 2-0 and I said to myself, even that is not safe with this back line. What is mind blowing to me is that the FO and coaching staff can't see what everyone else on this board can see with no problems and that is the back line sucks. There is a thread floating around about the worse defender in MLS. McCarthy got a few votes. I stuck up for him and voted for Tierney! The staff gets a big FAILURE for not addressing this during the summer window. If they manage to trade Toja or even Fielhaber and not bring in a competent MLS defender then it will be another huge Failure by this team. What started off as a promising year has turned in to the same old Revs under a different coach.

On final goal, no mids checked back on Cbus throw-in to pick up unmarked attackers. Alston had two Crew on his side; looks like McCarthy slightly shaded over to support him, seeing the overload on the near side of the field, leaving a gap between him and Soares that CBus took advantage of.

If you watch the replay, you can see Rowe and Cardenas standing close to the throw-in, with their backs to the ball, looking back toward Revs goal - which means they had opportunity to see/realize the Cbus numbers advantage - and did not respond.

There may have been a misplay by a defender somewhere in there, but the goal really got its start from the lack of defensive reaction by mids to negate the Cbus advantage.

When it is a throw-in in you own end, late in the game, and tied game, it seems obvious that it should be first nature for **everyone** to be on full alert and marking tightly. Seems pretty basic. However, that is not what happened on this one.

    ...and there went the game.
