I dont get this martinez excitement. Gustavo is superior in every way to javi although id prefer him to schweiny.

Claiming Gustavo to be better in every way than Martinez is damn close to trolling if not just void of any kind of football knowledge

Nah, everyone knows that martinez is a world class signing. He isn't worth 40 million, I would have thought that 30 million is good enough - but he is an exquisite player, unbelievable. Very versatile (not entirely sure why we signed that dude from Borussia Moch') and powerful.

Luis Gustavo is a tremendous asset, but his style is slowly fading out, he's like a gareth bale, except as a midfielder. Now you need to keep the ball more, have midfielders who can transition attack to defense. Midfielders who can score, and fight for the ball as well. Schweinsteiger is a great example of this. Martinez with Schweinsteiger and Kroos would mean we're literally going to dominate possession against every team, and also makes us extremely dangerous on the counter because they'll feed balls to our wingers.

I'm agree with this in some ways, don't know if he's better that Javi but Gustavo is a very good player. Why are we buying a primarily defensive midfield when we have Gustavo? I don't get it.
Why do they want 3 DM's (Gustavo, Javi, Schweni) on the team? To protect the backline? Why not spend the 40M to sign 2 defenders (1 central, 1 wingback)? That's where the weakness lie. The new signing - Dante - gives me too much of the Boateng vibe, ie. likely to fall asleep. That's not good, I rather have players at the back that lack certain attributes (like speed) who work and fight like a dog than someone who has great attributes but whose head is not always in the game.

Yeah, I don't really get why we want to sign Javi, we already have players in that role. I hope he's more a box-to-box players if we were to sign him, that's actually the kind of player we really need.

People questioning why a CM/DM is necessary should just rewatch last season particularly those games in which Schweinsteiger was missing and guys like Tymo or Gustavo had to play the linking role of defense and offense.

    Exactly.

Wonder boy Kroos is a replacement for Schweini in attack, but not quite so much in defense as well... meaning the defensive responsibilities of the interior CM increase. Tymo was too slow oft and while Gustavo was primarily a DM, his ability to give away possession as the game played on or just make reckless challenges was inevitable.

Stability in a CM role is needed.

You guys know that Javi Martinez is a very accomplished central defender as well, right?

Doesn't matter. Facts are negligible here. Emotions and personal opinions are what drives this forum ;)

Alright what's the hold up with this transfer? Starting to get irritating and quite frankly, I'm developing a doubt or two of it even happening. Knowing our FOs penchant for pulling out of transfer dealings when things become complicated and their stubbornness, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were to announce that Bilbao are being too difficult to deal with and pull out of the transfer.

I probably have my guard up too high since it's been clear that the player wants out, has been left out of the squad for at least one competitive match, and there shouldn't even be "negotiations" since we have apparently met his release cause in one form or another. It's somewhat understandable though because of Bilbao's special circumstances as a club and apparently their president is up for reelection, so this may just be a tactic to save face. I'm just hoping it works out before our match in Furth, because I wanna see him feature for a few minutes when we're winning big:D

Rummenigge said today that it is a legal issue and they have lawyers working on it right now because Martinez has to use the clause by himself. In a few days everything should be resolved imo and the only thing that you should lament about is the press that ran around like crazy claiming things are done, fix and perfect when they weren't and that was just after the Bayern board green lighted the transfer. On friday Bayern finalized the contract with the Martinez side and now they have to make it work with Bilbao or the league if Bilbao continues to play dickhead. If that little hick up already annoys you then what the hell did you did during the Makaay odysssey and the crazy deportivo chief? And even then Bayern didn't let the player fall down and lead the thing through to completion. At some point you are just too locked in to let it slide and cancel the deal.

LOL I'm just starting to get impatient. But couldn't agree more with the last part. Too much has happened for this not to be completed.

I'm not impatient, I'm really pissed off, it must be a deal done since 15 days but still nothing....we paid 40? Is it the release clause? So what they want more????????? Fanculo.

Kalle says the matter would be simple if Bilbao were willing to cooperate. Seems those reports by Tz(about the additional tax should Martinez take the 40mil to the spanish federation) weren't made out of thin air. Bypassing this additional tax doesn't look like an easy deal

Sitzfleisch, friends. If the agreement with Martinez is in place then there is nothing that Athletic can do to prevent it after the buyout is submitted. Money and patience will see it through.

The Neuer deal took longer than we expected as well.

Neuer deal was done and there was still over a month of time left in the transfer market. While I also think this move will happen, there are still few days left and I do not wish for Bayern to pay more than 40m euros only because their president needs any type of + points to get re-elected. What a prick.

Yep, and they own Martinez until we can get the deal done. The best revenge is to sign Javi and do well. Once he's ours we can worry about holding grudges.
