Knights, Baronets, and others entitled to the use of the style "Sir" aren't members of the nobility. God, this is the problem with you negative posters...you never fact-check the use of Styles for various awardees in the Honours System of the United Kingdom.
The highlighted portion is my beef. I don't understand how the constant bitching and negativity is you folks "having fun." I don't want to be a part of that and I'm not. In my oppinion if you really think that's all that's left with with this team then I can't imagine why you still consider yourself a fan. I love the whole punk rock attitude of, "I'm such a fan I hate them now! You're not a real fan unless you know they're not as good as they used to be... newb!!" That's always a great intellectual argument. I don't think everything is peachy but there's no point on debating substance when nobody around here is going to listen to any kind of reason. You're all way too embittered for that and again, frankly I tink you like it that way. But again, whatever, I'll leave you to your little corner and the basement and you can be as dour as you want to be. Have at it.
Frankly Monty, I think you're too far gone to recognize or appreciate anything positive happening with this team or organization. I don't think anything positive will ever be enough for you. There are a lot of disapointing and depressing things about the nature of this team but it doesn't mean it's all bad. If you guys want to be all emo about it go right ahead but I'm just saying that it's not helping anything or anyone.
So you don't understand it, so it must be bad? Because we don't. We consider ourselves Supporters. We're going to do what we can to help the team win. And pretending there are no problems isn't that. I was about to say "Just because we disagree, doesn't mean we didn't listen". But then I remembered that you haven't made a single constructive or refutive argument yet. Give me the reason, and I'll respond to it. Yup, you're right. Nothing gets me angrier than Playoff games. That's why I like my Bottom-of-the-Table club. Right, because someone disagreed with you, so you're going to take your ball and go home. You can be a coward if you want, or you can stand and try to strengthen your argument like a man would.
Like what postives? Name one, and I'll try to remember how Monty reacted Tell me what's "not bad". Please, what good thing has happened since, (to pick a date at Random) the Superliga Final in 2010. I'll wait Twice now, I believe I've made a compelling argument as to why pointing out issues is of benefit. Were you going to disagree with me on that argument, or just say I'm wrong?
Were you making this same argument from 1996-2007? You make it sound like it's unreasonable for people to be upset. This team has been on a steady decline now for five years. I don't want to rattle off the long list of shortcomings across all different aspects of this franchise (stadium, player acquisition, roster management, lack of spending, atmosphere, attendance, marketing, etc.) Do you honestly think that people haven't been happy when the team has gone out and made good moves (developmental academy and acquisition of Empire SC, Bengtson signing, United Healthcare sponsorship, this year's jerseys and adoption of the New England flag, etc.) Give us a reason to be happy and we surely will be, but until then expect more of the same. My idea of a supporter is someone who follows the team through and through, but that doesn't mean they need to be positive about it. I'm going to question anything and everything when my team is on this extreme of downward spiral. Do you still think that there isn't enough talk about tactics and the actual play on the field? I think there have been good discussions about Feilhaber, Sene, Nguyen, Tierney, and McCarthy in particular this season.
Go back and read my posts about Benny. About the jersey sponsor. About Bengtson signing here. Setting up a U-14 squad. Getting Empire to join our program. Don't let the facts get in the way of your argument or anything.
You are so filled to the brim with bullsh*t that it isn't even funny. Even I, of all people on here, have praised them for things that I thought were positive. Hell, I started a god damned positivity thread back before the season started. Sorry that when the shit hits the fan, and the team is terrible, people actually talk about the things that are wrong with this franchise. What a joke.
So at what point are there enough positive things happening where this place isn't some mouth breathing hate-fest?
Look, I tried to be civil and hint loudly that everyone supports this team in their own way. That means live and let live. You've made your point and every time you post you're just eroding any credibility you had. So if you don't want to be a constructive part of our little "mouth breathing hate-fest", there's the goddamn door.
Three years ago was the last time I actively posted on here or made this argument the first time. Point was I didn't have a problem leaving once, no problem leaving again - which was kind of the point. Anywho.
So you've posted twice in 3 years negative comments about the posters, but have never yourself posted anything positive or constructive? I can't stand certain posters derailing every thread into I hate Kraft discussion, but I do enjoy discussing tactics, personnel, and the general shape of the organization. So that's what I discuss with 90% of the people here and I ignore the rest of the baiting and trolling. My other option is not discussing the Revs at all.
If you were so inclined to look back from that time I made an attempt to start a thread stictly based on "On Field Talking Points." I thought it was pretty solid stuff but got very little traction. But I hear ya. I don't find it worth my time to trial to move the dial here. There's not enough signal to noise here so I typically just stick to Twitter. @BobRoundtreeIII is my handle there if anyone's interested.
oh ok, so this boils down to the fact that no one posted on a thread you started? haha that has to be the most petty thing possible.
Someone needs to correct me if I'm wrong... ok..wait, I've corrected myself. I'm right. Soccer got the worst of the deal when Kraft partnered and ponied up 5million to be MLS investor in Boston. MLS is so irrelevant in Boston that I can't count on my right hand when I was truly ecstatic to attend a game at Foxboro/CMGI/Gillette since Kraft has owned the team. A few games when Twellman/Ralston and Dempsey were on the field at the same time, the 2002 MLS Cup final..and that's about it. Kraft has ruined MLS in this region bar none! Soccer hasn't been entrenched in Boston since the Oneida's went undefeated..and they played a bastard version of footie, to boot! The next event this FO is going to come up with is pin the lipstick on the Pig...That might actually outdraw the Revs. Enough negativity? If 17yrs of this monger hasn't been enough negativity for you..Then you never truly followed Soccer!
The most ironic part of all this is your most recent posts. You complained about the negativity on these boards, appointing Heaps head coach, Brad and Jay Heaps' commentary, and Lizz Summers. You've rarely posted about tactics, player performance, etc. The one thread you cited was actually two pages long and contained a fair amount of insight. However, the majority of your player and performance related comments are typically "told ya so" posts that are extremely annoying. You're a real class act. See ya in three years.
There are dozens of active threads each month discussing individual players, their stats/effectiveness, Heap's tactical/formation selections, player acquistion, etc. There are people who like/dislike pretty much every player on the team this season. Nguyen might be the only one who is more or less universally praised(ironic as very few gave him a chance to begin the season). There are people who like our acquisitions and think we're headed in the right direction and there are those who think the mismanagement of the roster is unacceptable. Point being, there are people with all different viewpoints here. If most people are taking one side, it stands to reason to that the opposing argument simply isn't strong enough to sway opinion. I like twitter, but the idea that one can make an effective argument or comprehensive point in 140 characters is laughable. There's far more drive-by commentary than there is well thought out discussion or debate. I wish more of the people who comment about how negative bigsoccer is would come join and actually engage in discussion rather than complaining about other people complaining.
Same here. Too many "I'm taking my ball and going home" types who either give up engaging meaningful debate or cite the persistent negativity as means of staying away without trying to ameliorate the tone of the conversation.
