    Does it mean something?
    It sure does!

    A win in Italy.
    A win in the Azteca.

    Discuss.

If JK listen to BigSoccer, and not called in Fiscal or Shea... there would be no victory in Azteca

A wake-up call for both teams.
Mexico: Damn! Gringos still have something.
    USA: ¡Sí Se Puede!

Kilnsmann man, he keeps doing this suck for 4 games and pull something out of your ass in the 5th. It's crazy.

IMO what this means is that the monkey's off our back in Azteca. We'd played there a lot and had lost all but one game, with the one outlier a 0-0 tie back in 1997. You could tell from watching that this was far, far from the WCQ game day Azteca that we're used to, but the idea that we can go there and get a win even when Mexico is riding a wave of impressive success is helpful symbolically, even if it doesn't get us officially anything in terms of WC or GC or whatever.

This is sweet for players like Beckerman, who were on that 5-0 gold cup losing team. That match broke the hex of the US being unbeatable on home soil. Hopefully this match can do the same for for us in Azteca.

I agree with the folks who say it means the weight is off our shoulders, the monkey off our back, etc. It doesn't mean anything more, particularly after watching the way the game went. But it is a milestone accomplishment.

This was a huge win for our young guys and a great confidence builder for WCQ to know we have some young players that can come in if need be. Timmy was gangbusters and Shea make some great crosses. Awesome Win!!!

I don't always post on big soccer forums, but when I do, it is to say "fu*k you Mexico".

    Congrats on the win.

It sure means something...similarly to a Mexico winning big tournaments. Again, Congrats.

It was bound to happen eventually and for Mexico it's a wakeup call for the rest of the qualifiers.

Epic win, saw it on-line here in Shanghai, I was there in Azteca in 2009, so I hope the riot police are doing their job and keeping the poor-loser Tri fans away from the Yank away fans who deserve to celebrate. The win shows Klinsmann has something special. He can train an experimental line-up of young, inexperienced players and unlock their potential to give us a result like this. Brek Shea's run was pure confidence, who are these guys to tell me I can't set up a winning goal? I'm Mexican-American, I stopped supporting Mexico when USA started qualifying in 1990 and I read about urine bombs hitting USA supporters on American soil! Sorry padre, you must be rolling in your grave!

Question: I think on the ESPN broadcast, Ian Darke was saying this was the USA's first win in Mexico in over 75 years. Is that true?

There will be all these people who say Mexico didn't have their A squad, the game was meaningless, they were hung over from 72 hours of a Tequila bender after winning the gold medal (which was actually really impressive), and they really didn't care THAT mcuh about this game. Bull shiite. We took it to them in AZTECA for the first time ever. The conventional wisdom said looking at the squads and the recent run of form that we were going to get thrashed 4-5 nil and they would be able to stand over our mangled corpses and tea bag us with their gold medals.

My big fat a$$ this doesn't mean anything. It meant something to me, and all of us fans who bleed for this team. It certainly meant something to the guys on the field, and it means that we never have to hear that we have never won at Azteca again.

Certainly not always pretty but all that matters is a result!

Unlikely it doesn't mean anything to the guys that played tonight.

By the way, there are a ton of guys on these boards that came over to the Mexican boards and gave sincere congratulations to the Mexican fans after your team won the gold. Trolls like you are what we can expect in return I guess.

I'm sure it means something to Geoff Cameron, Terrence Boyd, Maurice Edu, Brek Shea, and Michael Orozco Fiscal. It's a big win even if the results don't mean anything. An 800-pound gorilla is off the back, and we've learned a bit about this team. What works and what doesn't, who is ready and who isn't. More importantly, the USA has won, which always means something to me.

This was not the starting 11 for either team that would have been on the field if everyone was healthy and it was a WCQ, but it is still something to be proud of since the lineups were kind of a push.

It's clear to me that we have more composure and a better chance to compete at a higher level under Klinsmann. Maybe we won't win much more than under Bradley, but our competency imho is significantly greater. I don't think Mexico was trying that hard, but even then, if you take both our friendlies with Mexico together, I think it shows we are a better team now than during the Gold Cup.

If I was betting, I wouldn't necessarily change my odds against Mexico. It's just a great result for our team and supporters.
