This has been mentioned before, but never had a thread. There's a story I just came across that says: Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen has revealed that he recommended American defender Mike Jones to Danish club FC Hjorring.Have they actually signed Jones? I don't think they have. But I'm not sure what the point of a story about Nielsen recommending Jones to a club would be if they weren't at least considering it. http://www.tribalfootball.com/artic...-nielsen-recommends-jones-fc-hjorring-3287741 Jones is an '88 who had a couple of cups of coffee in MLS.
He must have gotten those cups of coffee in the drive thru because I don't know who the Hell he is!! But Mike, obviously, made an impression at the window since Jimmy "The White Puma" Nielsen hooked him up with FC Hojrring.
He played in one MLS game for RBNY, and possibly one or two Open Cup play-in games. Now's he's Hjorring himself out?
I can confirm that FC Hjørring have made a statement regarding adding a Yank, that was recommended to them. However, I believe they will be looking for a center back.
Here's a site reporting a three-year contract: http://www.soccermadeinstlouis.com/...e_Jones_joins_Danish_first-division_team.html
Could we change the title of this thread to Mike Jones, Out Hjorring in Denmark? Or is this a family-oriented thread?
The local paper did a piece on him today: The headline reads "not good enough" - According to the manager Mike needs a lot of tactical training before he is ready for the starting lineup. In the article the Hjørring FC sporting director states that it was Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting KC, that recommended Mike. Player profile at Hjørring FC
I'm not sure this should surprise anyone, since -- if Wikipedia is to be believed -- Jones has just one first-team professional appearance to his name so far in his career. Presumably Hjorring understood this when they signed him.
He apparently spent some time with Vendsyssel FF (also in Denmark) last season, but seems to be without a club now.
