If that's the case then how come Govou and Lyuindula were left off the initial squad ? I think your short changing Govou a bit he definately can make a good case for being on the roster. If Govou and Lyuindula were both on the squad I dont think you'd be hearing too many complaints about it. I would take Govou over Robert and Micoud aswell.

IF I had to bet on a Euro 2004 winner...I'd put my money on France to win the whole shooting match (excuse the phrase). Very strong up the middle and great strikers.

    Should be fun to watch.

Nice backups, huh. You give me those 5 players on my club and we will run the table.

Bwiorly, Welcome to Big Soccer! Great to see football is alive and well in Kentucky. I lived near Louisville for 2yrs...Ft. Knox. Nice to see another PSG supporter on here...lol. Toon Army, ay? I love St. James' Park.

Hey Catfish! Yes, plenty of football and football fans in the Louisville area. PSG--I grew up with them; NUFC--My wife did... We only go back to Newcastle twice a year now, but I have to say Toon fans are the best...

BTW, I meant only Saha as a backup, not the others obviously. Zidane, Pires, Henry, and Trezeguet should--and will--all start.

As for Govou and Lyuindula, they probably had a case vs. Marlet, but once Santini went with Marlet, you weren't going to pick either one and leave Henry, Trezeguet, Saha or Giuly at home... With Giuly out, Santini had a few options--with IMHO at least three better (not a whole lot better sure, but better nonetheless) than Govou and Lyuindula: Robert, Micoud, Kapo.

I'm just trying to find a reason justifying Santini's choice, and I can't help but think the Lyon connection played a major part in Govou getting the call.

    Sun room France

    http://www.equipe.fr/Football/20040608_114028_01.html

The tabloïd The Sun, the daily newspaper more read in Great Britain, promises in its edition of Tuesday "one crowned correction" at Blue Sunday in Lisbon, with l'occasion of the match d'ouverture of the group B of l'euro 2004 between France and l'Angleterre.

"Thierry Henry! Napoleon Bonaparte! Jeanne d'Arc! Clouseau Inspector! Patrick Vieira! Charles of Gaulle! Renault 5! Jacques Chirac - do you hear us, Jacques Chirac? Our boys will give you one crowned correction!", writing Sun, sold each day to 3,4 d'exemplaires million.

The text occupies the left half of the first page, l'autre half being a photograph of the English players to their descent d'avion, Monday in Portugal. "the heroes of the English foot s'apprêtent to knock France", insists the newspaper on interior pages.

The articles on l'équipe of France multiplied these last days in the British press. Often very eulogistic for l'équipe of France, they insist on the difficult task which awaits Beckham and its pars.

Actually, I see a repeat of 2000 for England...

Remember their 2-0 lead over Portugal in 2000... the british play-by-play man was going nuts...

Then, real talent and superior tactics kicked in and the best team won (3-2 Portugal)

I see a similar scenario coming up with Beckham & Cie coming up pumped and scoring. Then, Zidane and Pires' class will show and France will win 3-1.

Then, the brits tabloids will be able to say that the reason France is so good is that a huge part of their players play in the EPL.

Wow... an Angers fan... congratulations on cheering for such a small team.

As for the game, I wish I'd lived nearer to you guys (I'm in Montreal, Qc - 6 hours from Mass.) cause I'd invite you over.

    This Sunday:
    Croatia-Switzerland noon
    Montreal F1 Grand Prix 1pm
    England-France 3pm
    Canada-Belize 4pm

All on basic cable and FSW Canada

Time to teach the baby about the fine points of channel surfing, how to lay back and enjoy watching tv all afternoon.

Best part... My wife doesn't mind and most likely will listen to the F1 and England-France with me. :D

Hello, I feel like a virgin, post for the very first time, does it hurt ?

Hopefully, France should go through the first round, because last time at the World Cup (was there really a WC in 2002, I often have the feeling it was a nightmare...) they totally missed their preparation as several other big guns (Argentina, Portugal) because the Cup started at the end of May in order to avoid the monsoon in S E Asia.

Those two weeks proved crucial, and apart from the Brazilians and the Koreans everybody looked exhausted. Normally, that shoud be good now. But, I hope France will display a beautiful game ; their recent games were lacking of inspiration. That's what worries me, it's the kind of 1-0 exit in Quarter Finals I definitely don't wanna see !!!

    We'll see, c'est la vie !!

I'm surprised to see genuine french football fans accross the Atlantic, is there a hype for France in the US?

Do you like PSG? Funny how the English supporters went crazy mad after England lost. Not very good sports, I guess. I never understood the violence. If you want to get pissed at someone it should be the English National Team, curse them out at the stadium or boo them when they return to England. Don't hate the French because they beat you. Btw, I like English and French players...so was torn on this one. I love Henry, Zidane, Vieira, Pires, and Trez. I might be part English, but I do love a lot of the French...like my 1/2 French wife...lol.

Congrats on the win, France. Wish I could have seen the match.

So French people living in France on this forum, how excited are you about the win??? Or did you expect to win and your not that pumped up about it?

As a genuine French fan in the U.S. there is not a lot of hype at all in the U.S. regarding Les Bleus or French club teams. I don't believe any French club teams have played in friendlies with MLS (Major League Soccer) club teams. No French teams have been invited to play in last year's or this year's set of big frienlies involving Man U., AC Milan, Porto, Gatalsaray, Celtic, etc.

Its very disappointing. I understand that no casual fans would show up to see Les Bleus, but I think real soccer fans, even if they aren't French fans, would go to a game involving Zizou et Titi. Why doesn't US Soccer want to play the best in the world? I think it would be a great test for the US Mens team.
