Henry calls the shots on this team, if you haven't noticed. Hans is mearly a figuredhead.

Hey, that's why I choose not to engage him most of the time. A simple "you were right and I was wrong" has never passed his lips. If he did that, I think more posters would accept that the rest of it is his own strongly held opinions. But as it stands, by sticking with points well after they've been proven wrong, he has no credibility on other issues.

A great signing. A quality player who will create many chances for the lads up top. Exactly what people were asking for. As is always the case, some people aren't happy which puzzles me. This guy has at least another 3 years left in him. He will prove himself to be a class act in the MLS. I also expect him to be a regular on the score sheet.
Great move Hans and Soler. Now buy another versatile defender.

After a German, a Palestinian one, two USA Ramos and Reyna, couple of SA, a Mexican Marquez is to difficult to ignore one more that can become another lemon with out a fish in our dinner plate, so....I'm not saying the man it has not been a good player, at the contrary, I expect him to be the best for us, because I want my team to win a damn trophy before is to late, I don't feel waiting another 17 years (I'm 75) therefor I will like to clear the air and be ready for the good and the worse of which we have been having the big share since 1996.....

When you have a player as a leader and essential for so many years and suddenly he is playing 1/3 of his game as a SUB, have to be a reason, he has three years in his contract to go and if he will be so essential like two or three years ago, isn't nothing in this world that will make a team to break with him, so, what is that reason, we have to think about that.... And I think about that...That is all....

Wikipedia said he scored too. Can we please not make these threads about you? Just say you were wrong and we can move on much more quickly.

It makes the Richards trade a little confusing for me - how do we start Cahill Henry Le toux and cooper?

The best part of the signing is the character of Cahill. He seems like a great person who busts his balls on the pitch and that alone should make the signing ok.

I'm guessing either Le Toux or Cooper would probably come off the bench and act as a super sub for the time being unless if Le Toux starts at RM..

I agree. In some games Le Toux will play out wide and in others the 3 forwards will rotate. I expect Henry will miss quite a few matches so the dilema may not be as frequent as we would all like. Either way Le Toux is a better player than Richards so the trade is still a good one.

If we can maintain Barklage, Holgersson, Conde and Pearce as the regular defense I can see us winning the MLS Cup and the Supporters Shield this year.

    Backe will try this:

    ----------Henry-Cooper
    ---------------Cahill
    Lindpere---------------LeToux
    -------------Dax

I'm not sure it will work.

Le Toux seems to put in about as much defensive effort as Richards, so we don't lose much down that flank with this lineup. The question is whether Cahill can get back to defend after trying to make late runs into the box.

Think I would go with a lineup like this when everyone is back and if we don't get anything new for defense. However, almost certain we will never see something like this.

    -------Meara/Gaudette-------
    ---Barklage---Conde---Pearce
    ----------Tainio--Dax---------
    --Solli-------Cahill----Lade--
    -------Le Toux---Henry------

    Probably what we will see.

    ---------Meara/Gaudette---------
    Barklage-Conde-Marquez-Pearce
    -----------------Dax---------------
    -----Solli-----Cahill----Lindpere---
    ---------Le Toux---Henry--------

That's the question. How much do we sacrifice defensively...overall that is.

Cahill was a great servant to Everton, an for me its hard to see my favourite player leave the club, its the break he deserves, and I hope he can help the red bulls challenge for the MLS in the time he spends with you's, and as you've all seen he can provide a deadly header in the 18 yard box!

This is an immediate upgrade. Henry's delivery has been fantastic and Dax has a good set piece foot as well when Henry is out of action.

Cahill, Lindpere, Holgersson, Conde all know how to find space and get a head on the ball. Dax is under-rated as well and Cooper has shown some improvement here too.

This year has been a complete turnaround in terms of our clear weakness on set pieces.

Given that he's not a conventional #10, I honestly wonder if Backe looked at his skills in the box, and saw him as a potential Wondo-type player, with Henry moving back into the #10 role that that failed 20-minute experiment saw him playing. This would indeed render the Richards trade somewhat confusing.

I don't think I'm imagining things when I say that our increased success in recent times has come from Hans breaking out of insisting on the 4-3-3 possession game, and playing a more conventional MLS style. If I'm right, then this trade seems to fit with that notion, but we'll see how it goes...

If the first 30 minutes of the Seattle game are anything to go by, Henry won't allow Hans to drop him back into the midfield, and rightfully so. He put in literally zero defensive effort, made dangerous dribbles too deep in the field, and didn't make the right movement to help out the rest of the midfielders.

I think its safe to say Cahill will play attacking midfielder, we just have to hope he has better chemistry with Henry than De Rosario did.
