This doesn't make me happy. Right now on Android 2.3.4 I can watch MLS Live just fine through the browser. If they aren't going to give us an app then they better at least let us watch using the browser. They need to realize that Android has the largest market share now. Time to quit fighting it and accept it.
Let me emphasize that MLS Live works on CM9 and AOKP based ROMs on my Motorola Droid RAZR (via Dolphin Browser). However on anything using the stock RAZR ICS it doesn't work. So at least on my RAZR I still have a way to use the site. Still MLS needs to start supporting Android for MLS Live. I mean we're paying for the service the same as any iOS user is, right?
I've gotten better acquainted with all the MLS Live platforms. I have to say that MLS Live is 10x better than Direct Kick. It's too bad tho, all the platforms seem to operate differently. On the computer, you can watch 2 games at once. But you can't watch highlights in MLS Live, only full and condensed games. There is no play-by-play. The replay screen has a neat timeline below it where goals and cards are marked, so you can go right to the play. You can also view in slow motion. You can chat and watch FB and twitter feeds. It is also easy to go back and forth between multiple games. On the iPad, you can stream a game live in a hotel or restaurant if you have 2-3Mbps bandwidth. You can play back highlights, but there are no condensed games or replays. You can read the play-by-play. When you go to a club page, at the bottom you can click on the team's chants, such as for the Earthquakes, you can hear the Ultras chant. The iPad does tend to be a little flaky in that I usually have to reboot the app every week. It is also time-consuming to flip between games, so I stopped doing that except at half time. On the iPhone, you can watch live games, highlights, and condensed games. You can read the play-by-play. In addition, you can watch and vote for Goal of the Week. There are no chants. On the Panasonic BluRay DVD, which is technically unsupported, you can watch highlights, condensed and replay games. You cannot watch live. It turns out that this is the only way I am using to watch MLS Live games on a full-size TV, and that the iPad is my preferred platform. I really only have one complaint, and that is that the lineup info should include the referees for the game. If the MLS Live service continues like this for future seasons, then it is an easy decision to never buy Direct Kick again.
If it is like previous seasons, at some point they should/will introduce a "half-season" or "reduced price" rate for new subscribers for some remaining portion of 2012. I believe that was the case for both the TV and online options in previous years. (There's no guarantee they will do that, but it may make sense for their business to pick up some "1/2 price" subscribers at some point.)
Except that you CAN watch full LIVE matches on the iPad. I watched Houston vs Philly last week. You can't watch full replays, only Condensed games (from the Scores page), or Highlights (from the Videos page). You can watch Condensed game afterwards by clicking the MLSLive icon on the Scores page for a particular game. I only learned about that last week. The icon looked grayed out for LA Galaxy vs Philly, but I was still able to click it and got the 20 minute Condensed game. Remember to hide the top of the screen before you select the match, (because that's where the score appers even if you're set to "no scores"). Hit the MLSLive icon at the bottom left of the page, and once the video starts, maximize it, then you can unhide the top of the screen.
I had to get a new box for HD DK games. I got an email right before the season but that was for Time Warner. SD was in 1420 range and HD are now in 1576 range.
It's been awhile, but the last time I tried on the bluray, all I got was "this game will start soon", so I couldn't FF anything. Will try that, thanks Strongly disagree. I had DK for 3 years. It just doesn't compare to MLS Live, as long as you have 3 Mbps Internet bandwidth.
I am looking at getting a TV with internet capability, specifically a Vizio. Will I be able to stream MLS Live on this directly? As of now I plug in my laptop via HDMI to stream on my TV.
I get MLS Live just fine on my Sony Google TV. Read the technical requirements for MLS Live and see if your TV has them.
only works directly on Panasonic. Everything else you need another medium. Why MLS Live is not on PS3/XBOX by now is beyond me!
I for one have been very impressed with MLS Live this season. I have even been able to watch matches whilst on my boat with my iPad. http://yfrog.com/nzc8sayj
Bingo. If your TV includes an established internet browser like Chrome, IE or Firefox you're probably good to go. But like he said, the crucial component is Flash.
Looks like a big update in the MLS Live app for iOS. Version 3.3 Added condensed games and full replays Added more ways to hide the scores Added hd 3mb streams for live, replay and condensed Added in player cards to access photos and career stats. Accessed from the formations tab
