Wait ... maybe this is old news, and maybe I'm just unobservant, but Pomona was actively courting Chivas USA? And Chivas USA basically turned them down? I had been under the impression that Chivas USA was courting Pomona. Not sure it was the wisest decision to snub Pomona ...
To the best of my knowledge, I have no idea how this idea went South. What I can tell you is that Chivas USA wants a downtown LA stadium in the worse way. Not San Diego. Not Orange County. Not Pomona. We shall see....
You really need to get to LA more. The transit system is really very good in many areas, including most of the places I want go to. One glaring exception, though, is LA's west side.
Here's one reason why people don't use public transportation in LA (from my experience using the bus): Its NOT safe. I used the bus in LA 1 time and their was a few gangsters in the back. No big deal right? Until they are threatening shooting the driver until he stops the bus in the middle of the route. Luckily the guy stopped and let them off quickly, I haven't used it since then(2002). Also, the transit system can be the best in the world but if people don't use it then it just just not effective. Point being, we are a "drive yourself" people and using the bus and trains is not typically in our vocab.
Yeah only half the city is left completely untied to the transit system. And while it's coverage is good in theory, LA is far too spread out for the train system to be overly effective. To say nothing of it having minimal ties to the outlying areas down toward OC either.
Minus: Same idiotic name and logo as is used by the current incompetent team, instead of something that actually makes sense like Los Angeles Aztecs or Club Deportivo Los Angeles....
Facepalm. Obviously, I was referring to the idea of a Chivas USA stadium not the brand itself. If you get a chance, research me and send me a pm. I can school you on that whole brand/name issue separately. Unless, you prefer to make juvenille posts about issues debated and discussed previously. No offense. What the Flock!? now on itunes.
Bummer about the Pomona fallout. I live in Temecula/murrieta (southern IE), it takes me an hour and 20 min to get to the homes depot center. Pomona is more like 45- 55 min from home. I also talked to an insider who told me that Santa Ana is still trying to wooh Chivas into moving there. I don't see us moving out of the homes depot for at least one more season.
Well we also reside in the geographic area of this team (going by their logo and name) I am not a fan of the team.
Facepalm. Another reason to hate the FMF or whatever they call it now. Eagles versus Goats. How original.
In the FMF I prefer the Xoloitzcuintles myself. Even if I still haven't figured out quite how to pronounce it. Hairless Dogs for the win over Eagles and Goats.
Gotta line up the freakin' politicos CDUSA. Also. Tiburones Rojos here! Buddy of mine was on their fuerzas basicas years back como jarocho local. I've never seen a Red Shark but that name they thought up back in the day is boss son.
About 3.5 months. It was pretty crazy how fast it went up. And amazingly gone within a month after the last match.
I like the Chivas Plaza Idea; Giant projection screen outdoors just like in europe. That's a great way to build the fan base during away matches.
I still think the Sports Arena site is the best locale , business and growth-wise (And I believe Chivas will only have to deal with USC and not the Coliseum Commission. Is that deal done?) The only better location is Farmers Field. But my sentimental choice is for the team to work with the commuity college district and do a complete upgrade/re-vamp at ELAC-- which would be the best and ultimate home field advantage on any first tier professional sports team in the country-- and that includes that of the Timbers.
If anyone from MLS ends up in the AEG owned "Farmers Field", assuming it gets built, it'll be the AEG owned Galaxy. Not Chivas LA.
And let me tell you after just two months of being under an AEG owned lease that would suck the hot hairy one for Chivitas fans looking forward to doing their own thing!
If they want a downtown stadium in the worst way, is the front office ready to step up and take this franchise to the level a team from los angeles should be? Sign some big name players. Rebrand themselves to something all people can get behind and not just the Mexican population. Because if they get a downtown stadium, then they would be the los angeles team. I would love to see it happen. I just don't see jack Nicholson and other hollywood-ites going to see a chivas USA game.
It's been discussed to death. I woul love for us to re vamp ELAC Stadium. Finally would fulfill the identity issue. The poor kids from across the bridge. The working LA not the struggling actress/singer wannabes from everywhere else USA. CLub Deportiva Los Angeles
