All true. But since our 'sustainable business model' requires we get top dollar for guys like him....buh-bye RVP.
Does anybody here "hate" Robin now? I think at least he is being honest about his feelings/needs, and has not rubbished the club like Na*ri did.
Have you even bothered to read this thread? There are lots here who are furious with Robin, and probably "hate" is not too strong a word. I don't. I'm sad he wants to go because it's been fun watching him develop, and let's face it, we ain't going to easily replace him.
Personally, i could care less about "cashing in" on Van Persie. The only place you'll ever see that money is in the profit column when they publish the annual report. Cesc had been pushing for a transfer for at least a year, if not more. Also he still had relative youth on his side along with the security of a long term contract. RVP has neither. I don't get wanting to sign a player to a double your money deal while wondering if he'll even make it to January. See if you can guess the author of this quote: "It is absolutely true that my agent and I have had a number of meetings with the club about a new contract," he said."During those meetings... I asked for assurances about the... ability of the club to attract the top players in the world."For me its all about winning trophies... Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified."I met with (the management) last week he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad,""I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract."
I don't, but some idiot on here was talking about wanting to see Robin have a career-threatening injury if he leaves. Hopefully just a statement made in the heat of the moment after realizing RvP is probably leaving. With the exodus of top talent this club has experienced in the past few seasons, I think I'm almost desensitized to this now, to the point of almost expecting it every summer. Henry, Flamini, Hleb, Cesc, Nasri, now maybe RVP... You get the point. We are still an elite european football club, but we aren't in the super elite in financial terms. That's why we've become a feeder club. I certainly don't blame RVP for wanting to cash out now and try to get a trophy or two before he retires, even after the patience we've shown him during his injury-prone years. Fans would have been pissed with or without the statement he issued.
I assume these were Rooney's quotes. As a matter of fact, RVP's and Rooney's statements are really similar. The difference though is that Rooney was 25 and had a relatively injury free career so far while RVP only played 2 full seasons and is already 29. He does not have the same leverage and I highly doubt he will ever get a similar contract (or anything anywhere close) offer as Rooney's.
` Fans would have been sad and disappointed if he had simply announced that he would not resign, however the statement has really infuriated and pissed Gunners Nation. He is definitely in Cashley, Nasri and Adebayor territory now.
Crap!,,Again.... lol.. Corrected. PS. Anyway, they all have bank accounts in bermuda, Switzerland or other offshore places.. lol
I haven't said that, but after he's damaged the clubs reputation (a little more), if he leaves and promptly knackers himself, I'll have a little chortle. For the record, if Clichy or Toure or various others did something similar any smile passing my lips would be down to wind and nothing else I've posted a version of his statement on this very thread (I think?) that would have been considerably more acceptable to the majority of fans that are pissed with him
Maybe... I think most fans' opinion of him will be based off where he goes. Note that all the players you referenced went to our domestic rivals. Seeing highlights of these guys every weekend for an opposing club rubs salt in the wound - especially when we have to play against them. If we ship him off to Juve and only have to worry about seeing him in Champions League, I think it doesn't burn as much.
Agreed. If he goes to Juve or even Barca, it will be less painful, however if next season he is wearing the City jersey, man, the day he shows himself at the Emirates, the reception he will receive will dwarf Nasri's last year. I don't think we realize how much fans are pissed at him now (as much as they loved and adored him and even more).
Not sure if I'm among those who's been on the board calling for him to injure himself upon leaving, but my impression of him has turned enough that I certainly feel that much anger. Where he goes will only temper that anger a bit because with this statement he's basically not only wanting his cake (money) and to eat it, too (at some perceived glamour club of his choice), but he wants Arsenal to play the dutiful waiter/busboy in delivering said prize. There's no nobility in that approach, IMO. Hand in the transfer request and say "Thank you but I can make much more money elsewhere," and I've got no problem with that, especially if he works with Arsenal in allowing flexibility in the destination. But if he's targeted City and City only then he's burning bridges with malice, because that's not only his greed but his disregard of the interests of his current club. In which case I would wish him miserable fortunes throughout.
it seems like all of this statement stuff puts downward pressure on his transfer fee. we should fine him clubs do with Barton's twittering
Once a player leaves the club I usually don't give a shit about them anyway. If it's a legend like Henry I "tip my hat" to him on the way out for all the good times he supplied then proceed to not give a shit anymore; anyone less than a legend I forget about them before the ink dries on their new contract.
I just have trouble accepting that money will make much of a difference at that level. Afaik RVP was offered a 3 year contract at 130k a week with a 5m sign on bonus. Is 70k more really going to make such a difference if he's already have made a fortune to last him a lifetime? Time is what RVP is short on. He may not have doubts about Arsenal in the long term, but what are the odds Arsenal will win the title or the CL in the next 3 years? The EPL arguably has 5 teams who can challenge for the title. So in any given year Arsenals chances are 20% at best. The CL is even worse with at least 9 teams that have a shot at winning it. His odds to at least win a league title improve a lot if he moves to Juve in Italy or RM/Barca in Spain. These teams can also invest more effort in their CL campaigns as qualification for the next year is almost guaranteed due to their less competitive leagues.
Yep! My thoughts exactly. Plus, and I realize I'm wandering into cliche territory here but, Arsenal football club is and always will be bigger than one player or manager. I could honestly give two shits if RVP is unhappy with the direction we are going. We didn't hire him to direct the club's strategy, we pay him to keep his mouth shut and score goals. If he wants to do that elsewhere, then bugger the ******** off and hope you don't play us next season.
multiply 70k by 52. then multiply that figure by 4. Thats about £15 million. I would like to see someone turn down £15 million.
I always wondered of they were paid 52 weeks of the year or just the weeks in-season; similar to how sports here have "game checks."
Exactly. If he finds a home in Juve then fine, more power to him. If he's angling to go only to Citeh because of the money, then he's a f****** traitor not for wanting to leave but for wanting to stand against Arsenal. Arsenal is among the top global brands in football. If a player wants to be in the current upper echelon of the Premiership then the only other options are the traditional brands of ManU or Liverpool OR for the steroid-enhanced wage scales of Sibneft or Abu Dhabi. Since the pedigree of the last two is built solely on an unsustainable model that comes at the expense of every other earnest club, one where club performance is almost completely unrelated to management or fan investment, then any player going there is turning their backs on the character for which Arsenal has currently stood. Moreover, they're creating exactly the condition for which they're accusing Arsenal is a victim - the inability to retain players versus the allure of all the big money. For RvP to assess that Arsenal isn't able to lure the talent needed to win trophies is him assuming that such talent would only abide by the heighest wages going, which currently is the $200k+ per week thrown around in Eastlands. For him to feel that way, then, is merely justification for his own desire to cash those checks.
He's probably made around £20 million already so far in wages, in the next three years he'd have added another £20 million. Going from £40m to £55m won't change your lifestyle or anything. I wonder if extra money still is a motivation to do anything at that point.
