Dont be so sure Djourou is leaving.

    1) He wants to fight for his place

    2) The bloke who started the rumours about Napoli isn't his agent

Miles, it is being reported in some medias in Italy now (Tuttosport). It seems there is more to the story. Obviously, It is also a wishful thinking for most gunners as well :)

Wasn't it also reported the Swiss coach said he had to start playing more or he would be dropped?

The only thing that concerns me with him leaving is replacing him with a HG player.

Do you mean that we would need to or you are concerned we would and want to see a new player bought?

I actually wouldn't mind keeping Djourou as our 4th CB for another year.

I thought he was pretty good in 2010-2011.

People are also forgetting about Miquel, who has gotten playing time but is not an outside back though he played there on the left for a game or two, I wouldn't mind seeing him get some time either. Besides, if we develop him right, he'll want to go back to his home and we can get boatloads from Barca!

Like I mentioned before - Bartley is Djourou's replacement, as he's light years ahead of Miquel in his development.

Ok....That will close the Dempsey debate once and for all. He is going to Liverpool.

BREAKING NEWS: Clint Dempsey’s agent confirms he will be Brendan Rodgers’s first signing for Liverpool for a £7.5 million fee.

It's all about the money. Dempsey must have been offered a nice pay raise to move out of London to Merseyside. I still have my doubts about this because he really wanted Champions League play and this was his last window to make it happen. We'll see.

EDIT: It's from Fake Rumours lol. We'll still see. They really have a hard on for him.

I would say we need to. The Prem and Champions League has their own rules for home grown. Bartley would fit both requirements. Miquel is safe as his age doesn't require him to be registered for another two years(I think as his birthday isn't until Sept).

It doesn't have to be a central defender(would prefer someone who can play wither RB and LB) unless injures are an issue between now and the end of the transfer window. As much as I want to see Carl Jenkinson have success, I don't want a player like him bought and thrown to the wolves unless he is actually ready now. Someone like a Phil Jones(just as an example) who has had Prem experience and home grown.

I haven't been too impressed with Francis Coquelin when I have seen him play. Does Conor Henderson step up for the midfield and has he recovered from his knee injury? Will Pedro Botelho(who has to have a Spanish passport by now) feature at all?

The reason it's being reported in the press is because an agent (not specifically Djourou's agent) is talking about it.

No doubt the agent is trying to get the 2 parties (Napoli and Djourou/Arsenal) together and make a few pennies.

Djourou's denied he's interested in a move to Napoli, effectively denied this agent works for him, and wants to stay and fight for his place. He's spoken to Wenger and been told he's in his plans.

I'll see if I can find the interview with Djourou where he said all this

    Edit: Found it

Light years ? That's a pretty strong statement.

What are you basing this on?

Bartley has had 1 appearance for Arsenal, 2 if you count the Emirates Cup. Yes, I understand, he played for Rangers 19 times last sesason, but he looks like one of Wenger's "Loan Babies" who plays well enough away from the club to warrant a transfer fee.

Miquel on the other hand played 9 times for Arsenal last year. He's also younger by 15 months. He wasn't sent out on loan last year or ever for the club.

Bartley - 68 first team games.

Miquel - 11 first team games - 9 last season, which is directly attributed to the fact our defense had an injury crisis..

That's what I'm basing it on. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Miquel go away on loan this season. He should, he needs games.

Ajax striker in exile Mounir El Hamdaoui is in Fiorentina negotiating a transfer as well so that's interesting.

I wonder what we'd have to pay to get him. I admit I'm a Dempsey fan-boy from his Revolution days but I also think he's the kind of AM we need to stockpile...

In all seriousness, I expect Kos to continue to improve and he will deserve every penny he will get. He is top quality. He is the best pure central defender I have seen at Arsenal since Sol Campbell. (very different style though)
Apparently Inter Milan is sniffing around him, so it is better to lock him in quickly.

a lot of people forget about that part (where, had yaya toure stayed at beveren for another 6 months, he would have been signed) and blame wenger for missing out on him.

6.3 is an awfully high fee for djourou. i'd be thrilled but it seems high.
