Seriously. Beckham just ruined EVERYTHING! I'm surprised all 50,000 in attendance haven't demanded refunds. Since the whole thing was just ruined. By Beckham.

I think my eyes just rolled out of my head.

Seriously. Has NO other athlete thrown a tantrum? Sheez. Just suspend him and move on.

Really? You don't know what to think about this one?

I'm just guessing, but if I had to bet money one way or the other, I'd say - not true.

This time last year it was the prostitute story.

He really is having the worst week ever.

Unless Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology can influence the Disciplinary Committee not to give DB any additional suspensions for that little incident at the San Jose game?

True, not unprecedented. But still not what you want to see from a team leader who is supposed to be the model of professionalism.

Never said I wanted to see it, but it's being reported like a national tragedy. He deserves his suspension, and then we'll all move on.

I wish they could also suspend Cronin.

Hope you enjoyed the tennis match, Becks. I am sure your team mates appreciate your support.

I must say it's pretty odd to see a team leader when suspended, instead of traveling with the team and offering support, decide instead to fly across the pond and take in a freakin tennis match. Just does not happen here in other sports. You're normally barred from entering the facility at game time, but travel to and from the city with the team and watch the game in the hotel or a bar. But not even traveling with the team and instead flying eight time zones east to take in a tennis match?

Disrespectful to say the least, and I don't really care about disrespect towards MLS anywhere near as much as I do towards your teammates. Becks knew sitting with royalty at Wimbledon wouldn't be a low profile event either and many would notice he chose that over supporting his team. Does Bruce have a say in this? Does he allow it? I doubt if this happened with him at Man U Fergie would have let him turn up on a beach in Miami on the day of a game simply because he was suspended.

Does anyone know if that is actually the rule in MLS? I know he was suspended from playing but I don't think there is anything that would stop him from sitting in a box and watching, cheering. In fact I think I have seen that happen in the past with other suspended players, but I could be completely wrong.

That can't be the rule in MLS. He was sitting at the HDC in the AEG box with Frank Lampard during the Philly game while serving his suspension for yellow card accumulation.

Thanks. Obviously! I had forgotten that.
So much for the concept that he couldn't have gone to Chicago. Right or wrong, he was not there with his team because he chose not to be.

That makes jetting off to Wimbledon even worse, imo. You always support your team. I understand when he's flown back to England for NT friendlies, and that's fine. I understand him not flying with the team when he tore his achilles. That's fine. But not joining the team simply for a 24 hr personal vacation at Wimbledon?

I know in the NBA when guys are suspended they still participate in the morning shoot around the day of the game. Just can't be at the arena during the game. But if they could and there wasn't that rule in place, they damn well would be there in a suit supporting their guys. This isn't a Becks vs MLS issue for me but Becks vs his teammates.

BTW, I'm not someone who hates Becks like many who simply love to hate him. I have a lot of respect for the man and love watching him play. Today just really rubbed me the wrong way.

No other suspended players in this league travel to away games to support the team and participate in practices and act as cheerleaders. There is a good reason for this. It is not practical or cost effective for the organization. According to a post I read on the LARS board -

Money is not an issue for DB, and I guess it could be argued that he can easily spring for his own airfare and hotel. But why should he?

DB traveling anywhere is an ordeal. An ordeal involving bodyguards to deal with paparazzi and fans. He gets approached anytime he is out in public. It's a circus and a distraction his teammates are used to, but I'm sure they don't miss it when they don't have to put up with it.

He is going to be photographed anytime he leaves his house. Suspension does not = house arrest. Would his teammates feel more supported if he was photographed getting frozen yogurt with his kids? Or hanging out at Steven Spielbergs beach house? At Disneyland? Or maybe if he DJ'd at half-time like Jan Gunnar Solli did for the Red Bulls last season?

I can't imagine that any of them care, or even gave one single thought to DB going to Wimbledon.

Unless Beckham got Scotty to beam him up to London, it would be no harder for him to get to Chicago than it was to travel to London, so do not give me a sob story about how hard it is for him to travel. He certainly does enough of it when he feels like it.

And not practical for the team? You mean LAG can't pop for a first class ticket for David? Seems to me he HAS travelled with the team some times when he was injured and couldn't play. Of course I am sure you will tell me THAT was "cost effective."

I have no idea what other suspended players on other teams do or don't do. Frankly I don't care. BTW, did any other MLS suspended players show up at Wimbledon - I didn't watch the tennis.
