Becks misses the final cut for team GB http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/06/28/uk-oly-socc-beckham-idUKBRE85R0K720120628 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/index.html
Yeah, I knew you would feel that way. Well, tell me this, was Donovan better before he went on national team duty or after? I think it energized him, or something did. Beckham is bound to be a little down after such a big disappointment. That won't help his play. Also, he probably will go to London for the Olympics anyway even if he isn't playing. I'll bet it's in his contract. In which case, we lose his services. It's probably a wash Galaxy-wise, or better for us if he stays, but I was rooting for him.
And Stuart Pearce has his Steve McLaren moment. "I'll prove I'm a big man by excluding Beckham." Such sad, pathetic little men there are in this world...
Or the Dunga moment vis a vis Ronaldinho. Now that's one faux pas that I'm sure that that man wishes he had to do over again.
We know that's the deal with Beckham. I'm resigned to it now, as long as it's not egregious. The Olympics gig was known when he re-signed.
Never realized that an athlete wanting to represent their country was considered "something rotten". Thanks for informing me, I'll adjust my opinions on players accordingly. Damn you Lolo Jones. I no longer have the hots for you!
sunsport readers back BECKHAM for team GB http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...earce-wrong-to-drop-Beckham-from-Team-GB.html
If he were actually representing his country, that would be one thing. He's not on the roster. If he goes it is for photo ops and ceremonial ribbon cutting events. So, yeah, leaving the people who pay your salary, and leaving the fans who support your team, for this crap is pretty rotten. But,hey, it's Beck's so that makes it all OK no matter what, doesn't it?
Actually, he IS representing his country whether on or off the pitch. He is a Londoner, the Olympics is practically held in his own backyard, and he is it's ambassador for God sake! If that is not representing his country I don't know what is. However, like you, I for one will not like it if he went there for more than 2 days and missing games, but if it's just a couple of days for opening or closing ceremony, after all he's done to promote the event at his home, then go for it. Have to say though...with them treating him like crap with the football team, I hope he won't go and just focus his energy to win at least 2 more cups with Galaxy this year.
Well, if you are talking representation in a very generic sense, then he represents his country. Of course he does that here too. He represents his country every time he makes an appearance on or off the pitch in LA. He does not need to travel to London to represent his country in that broad sense.
tough week for BECKHAM http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...m-scrap-LA-Galaxy-v-San-Jose-Earthquakes.html
Anyone else watch the video and notice how quickly Cronin managed to 'recover' after the ball was kicked his way?
The speed at which Cronin gets up is disgusting. I know Beckham will sit for at least two games, but I hope Cronin is at least fined for his blatant fakery. At least have the decency to stay down man! Getting up and reacting to a miracle healing ball is just plain dumb and proved David's point.
Forget reporting this incident to the Disciplinary Committee. The Vatican should review it. Hopefully the first thing David does when the team gets home is kick a ball directly into Omar's surgically repaired knee. HEAL!
