I was hoping nelo would get the nod for that award, but sadly he hasn't gotten any minutes where the team and he could settle and adjust to him being the 9. I would love him to start weds, but my footballing brain would start Almeida, who no matter how shiitty he can be, is still a huge fcuker who demands attention from central defenders and makes room for nani and cristiano.
He was not poor. Against Italy he did everything he could do with little to no service. He was sitting deep all match and worked like a dog. Furthermore, he converted his penalty. He didn't make any significant mistakes for England. Against the Ukraine he also put in a typical hard working effort while converting one of the few chances that England managed to carve out.
Well, if you think Dzagoev is too old at 22, then I presume you think 23 year old Hummels is too old as well. Youngest starter getting major minutes, I think, was Denmark's Christian Erikson, and he was pretty absent. So, best young player for me is Greece's Kyriakos Papadopoulos, #5, who is only 20 and acquitted himself pretty well this tourney. Decent enough player, but not good enough to win a major award, so I would still go with Hummels, if I was doing the selecting.
Yep.. Poor showing from Roon, although a lot of it has to do with the fact that he just didn't have the legs.. Looked slower than usual, with very few of those speed burst runs we are use to seeing from him.. Young was dire as well..
In attacking terms Rooney did nothing, and defensively the person him and Wellbeck were meant to drop off onto (mainly Rooney's job as he was the deeper forward) ended up being MotM.
Against Ukraine he was awful. That can be put down to lack of match fitness maybe, but he miscontrolled the ball, passed poorly and missed a sitter. Against Italy he was a little better, but again, misplaced simple passes, made poor decisions (like trying to run through 3 Italian players when an easy release pass was on), got in Welbeck's way on a couple of occasions. If I counted the good things he did in the match, I don't think I'd have to use more than one hand.
Not really been any revelations this tourney, most of the best players so far are already established veterans. Kind of disappointing, as one of the reasons I always loved these tourneys tosee players I have barely watched blossom on a big stage.
Yeah, no one has made a name for themselves. All the best players have been known quantities like Pirlo/Ozil/Spain
Scoring how many goals more than Welbeck? Mario Balotelli's tournament, to this point, to me... ********ing up a bunch of great chances he's had. Pilar from the Czech should be young player of the tournement.
OK, there's been no Ozil or Muller at this tourney, but Krohn-Delhi was quite good, Gebre Selassie had two very fine games, as did Dzagoev, and Salpingidis was fun to watch. Jordi Alba has been so much of a threat that Blanc decided to move Debuchy to mid to try to contain him. And for the more established players, Daniel Agger, who I don't rate normally, had a really fantastic tournament.
I think that's a absurd. Welbeck has been good but to a degree his performances have been overstated because of the rubbish next to him. Moreover his play has not been as signifcant as Balotelli's to Italy. He has one goal to date but when on the field he's constantly created dangerous chances and makes Italy look dynamic and alive upfront. His second half and extra time performance against England is also exactly what you'd want from a striker - and surprisingly it was mature and professional. Again, he's a good enough candidate because no young player has really stood out or been on the level of the more established players.
Gabre Sellasie for that young player award? It really has been pretty disappointing from that angle tbh. Just checked and he's 25. Probably will be Balo for some reason...
No stand outs anywhere young or old, Pirlo playing against Gerrard and Parker is nt fair and doesnt count, just dont give it to anyone.
