After thinking about it, I think Harkes was fired. I know he took Wynalda's spot at ESPN though. Taylor Twellman is now the main guy.

It's because they are both anglophone countries and Americans can't be bothered to understand a different culture. My uncle told me that English people with little to no experience playing football come to the US and open coaching clinics for kids where they charge a ridiculous amount of money. The ignorant parents pay the money because they assume an English accent translates to football knowledge. It' an excellent scheme if you really think about it.

I was playing ball with some friends the other day and after the goalie booted the ball down the field someone said "That's an English Premier kick!" You know, as if it's the only league where the keeper kicks the ball down the field in that manner.

Yes that is the way it pretty much began. The 1950 US team that beat England 1-0 had some British on the team. Also, when the NASL started in 1967 the year after England won the WC, many English players, coaches and GM's were brought over to establish the game state side. I remember San Jose from 1974-1984 had many English players but also had many Yugoslavs mostly because of their owner Milan Mandaric (who later owned Portsmouth, Leichester City, Sheffield Wednesday) and the style of play was primarily the traditional long ball of the day.

He did after hitting the outside of the post but he carried the team to victory there. Portugal have a good thing going, Moutinho is playing very well and really pulling the strings in midfield. With that being said the Czech tried to defend and they simply aren't good enough to do that though they came close to ET. I see a big mistake coming with the Portuguese keeper he doesn't command his box well at all.

Yes. Rui Patricio is a young keeper and he really hasn't been tested though I do see what you're saying. Thus far, Fabio Coentrao has been the best player for Portugal, bar none. Ronaldo realy stepping up.

I don't think any team will relish facing Portugal with Ronaldo on a mission like he is.
I read a rumor that after the goal he turned to the cameras and said, "This one's for you, Messi."
Awesome! Put the drug-dwarf in his place!

I watched the 2nd half of Por/ Czech game and the Czechs were just simply awful. Could not defend or attack. Kind of felt sorry for Cech.

Come on man. Messi is the best player in the world. Four times Champions League top scorer, 9 goals in his last 9 games for Argentina.....among other things.

I really detest the guy -- but he is an undeniably great player. The Holland game and yesterday's match were pretty epic performances.

But jeeeezus, what a dick -- everybody runs over to congratulate Moutinho for his incredible run and cross, but Malibu Ken goes straight to the cameras. Yes, he's the best player on the pitch. We get it. But come on.

Same thing when Varela scored the amazing winner against the Danes -- everyone's mugging Varela except Mr. Pouty Pants. Pathetic. Brilliant... but pathetic.

He is the best in terms of results, but he plays without poetry.
He is a devastating automaton, who incidentally was created by massive amounts of performance enhancing drugs.
A great player should have personality, be a showman or a poet or a warrior. Ronaldo is the consummate showman.
Messi plays like a bureaucrat. Bores me to tears.

While I do like watching Messi play, things just get frantic when he gets the ball, he's kind of video game like. The goals come in an automatic, press shoot button for this amount of time and the ball goes in that exact spot almost everytime. Like the video games he doesn't change his demeanor.

I have questioned him getting the meds at Barca, to push him from dwarf to supreme footballer.

Ronaldo is arrogant and aloof at times but he's a spectical as well pouring his emotions uot on the pitch.

We'll never know the truth but what if it was more than just growth hormones? Perhaps it gave him more than just the ability to be allowed onto the roller coaster?

And where's his birth certificate? I heard he wasn't even born in Argentina, but was born in Kenya. And why doesn't he use any hair product? He can't be an Argentine without hair product. And where was he when Kennedy was shot? I don't buy this whole 'not born yet' crap. But they'll never tell us . . . .

I never cared much for his character. I only care about how he plays on the field.

    You cannot deny his skill

What's the deal here? Injury? Or just resting them?

    Imagine this backfires...
