So if we do go to penalties, who will step up?

Naturally Pirlo would. I think De Rossi would too despite his miss in 2008 - the guy has balls. Probably Balotelli t00 - he seems very confident in his own abilities. Hopefully ADN doesn't!

    No De Rossi.

Pirlo, Balotelli, Cassano, Di Natale, Marchisio

It's whoever asks to take one. No point in posturing about this, especially now.

We'd have a decent five. Perhaps Pirlo, De Rossi, Cassano, Bonucci, Balotelli. Mario is considered one of the best penalty-takers in the world.

who cares right now....there is no right or wrong answer here. Even the best of the best miss at the most crucial moments. Just dont play for penalties for god's sake...go for the win every game.

I don't know if Pirlo should take one... he's got a terrible recent record.

Interesting stance on De Rossi. It seems to me a 23 year old De Rossi stepped up and buried a penalty in the top corner in the WC final in 2006. I don't view Di Natale or Marchisio as having the clutch gene and grit you need to have to hold yourself up and take a composed penalty after 120 minutes of battle.

Agree with Phat about Pirlo. He missed his last two for Juve but you really cant say who'll be taking them because we dont know who will be on the field after 120 minutes. If Balo is there he goes first because he has never missed a PK and is the best PK taker around.

God the last thing I want to think about is penalties. Just the thought of penalties keeps me awake at night.

Balotelli is the only one I've never seen miss. Is Giovinco any good at taking pk's?

Most teams dont play for penalties it just happens that way. Who cares if he wants to ask this question you say theres no right or wrong answer you can say the same thing for asking about Italy vs england predictions or predictions on any game, season, tournament etc.

Pirlo nailed france twice in big games for Italy. Cant fault him for 2 recent misses, most players do miss.

Of course, he/she can ask whatever they want. We can also say, what should our lineup be against Germany in the semifinals? I say we start Barzagli because he has knowledge of the German game. Sure, we can talk about this but it seems a little silly now.

I knew Montolivo would miss 10,000 miles away, he lacks any sort of heart, I called it and told my friend during the 2nd half.

Don't want to see him on the field again unless it's an emergency case, not just because of the penalty, he was terrible most of the time.

On the other hand, what a beautiful shot by Pirlo, that alone mind ********ed the English.

agreed and knew he'd miss. kept giving the ball away he's a liability. Pirlo is a champ and the people in this thread have a short memory.

Total class. Player of the tournament for me.
