Very true most of the violence happens in the Northern part of Mexico, but to each their own if they want to go they should go.
Yeah, it would be safe but there are risks of getting hit with piss bags and batteries right if you have a US jersey on right?
Of course! But you should consider that part of the "Azteca experience", it's what you pay for. No, seriously, I doubt you'd get that in a friendly. Some immature teenagers showing you the finger as you approach your seat and probably a number of insults being thrown at you throughout the game, but I think that would be it. I may be wrong, of course.
Cool man its nice to see a friendly Mexican fan up in here. Hey I want to ask you something you know that Dutch guy with Chivas is he the new coach or what? I saw some news about him a few weeks ago but didn't really pay attention.
Yeah, Cruyff is providing advice and John van't Schip is the new coach. If you ask me, I think Chivas should have kept el Guero Real as coach and just bring a few reinforcements. The team was playing great under that guy, but this is the way Vergara likes to spend his money. On topic: In his blog, Sutcliffe says that this game is a great idea given that the US and Mexico will not be playing any WCQ games against each other in this cycle. I thought they were supposed to play against each other in the fourth round (aka "The Hex"), did I miss something?
Unless he means this round (CONCACAF Semis) or he thinks the USA is in store for some very nasty surprises over our next four games, then he's wrong. Everyone heads to the Hex after this round. The "get Caribbean teams more big money games against USA and Mexico" qualifying plan bit the dust.
My apologies. I know you guys have endured centuries of ridicule and condescension because of the "N" word. Carry on.
Yes, certain teenagers frequently venture in here and we have to endure the ridicule and condescension they cause themselves by the fact that they haven't yet learned how to interact with adults.
Really? I have been a big soccer face since I was 8 years old, don't judge me if you don't know me okay paisa because I don't give a damn about Chivas or the Mexican League.
This may be referring to the fact that CONCACAF and FIFA had an arrangement where CONCACAF changed its World Cup Qualifying to get the USA as host for World Cup 2026. Since the US did not get to host that particular event, CONCACAF changed it back, if I remember correctly.
Bimmer, Cruyff is a guy that's usually mentioned alongside people like Pele, Maradona, and Beckenbauer, possibly the greatest Dutch player ever, possibly the greatest player of the 1970's. Having played for and been heavily involved subsequently with Barcelona, he had a lot to do with Barcelona's heavy traditional Dutch connection and melding of Dutch and Spanish stylistic philosophy. If you like Barca, you probably like Cruyff.
In news unrelated to Cruyff, U.S. Soccer has officially announced the match. http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2012/06/USA-Mexico-Rivalry-Resumes-Aug-15.aspx
I'm excited about this game, although I'm not sure why Mexico would agree to it. This is the first friendly Mexico has ever scheduled with the US in the Azteca. It basically gives all our young players the chance for a practice run in the stadium before next year's qualifier. There's plenty of other countries they could have played.
Well, yeah, of course it's about money. That's what all friendlies on non-FIFA dates are about. But host it in a different city then (Guadalajara, Torreon, etc). Would you invite Mexico up to Columbus, Ohio for a friendly in November?
Actually, this is about more than money for both sides. Remember, this is a Non-FIFA date, so both teams will be fielding squads exclusively from MLS and the Mexican League. (In fact, to be douches, the Mexican clubs can even refuse to release Torres, Gomez, Beasley, etc...But I doubt that will happen.) Basically, this is a test of depth. Our recent games have shown that there are a lot of question marks in our roster and we should look at our domestic talent. Likewise, Mexico have become dependent upon her foreign contingent, and their runs in qualifying matches were far from convincing. Considering that both teams will be playing B-Squads, it makes no sense to play the games anywhere else. Azteca will fill up because it's a guaranteed sell, it up the stakes and adds drama, because the repercussions of a Mexico loss are genuinely real. Having the game in Guadalajara or Nashville or Seattle or wherever makes no sense- It will just be B-Team v B-Team, and basically be just another friendly. It will pack butts in the seats, but the drama and stakes will be gone. Both teams want to make the game mean something, because that is the best way to prepare for qualification. I predict that Mexico, having qualified for the Olympics, will probably play a mostly Olympic roster plus some local standouts (And I am keen to see Alan Pulido running at Geoff Cameron. Gonna be awesome.) to cover for Euro U-23's. The USA will probably be looking at MLS hopefuls (Feilhaber and Cooper readily come to mind) paired with our Mexican talent. If I had to pick my roster, it would look like this: GK: Rimando, Pickens DF: Cameron, Castillo, John, Park, Lloyd, Gonzalez, Kitchen, Wenger MF: Donovan, Feilhaber, Torres, Zusi, Beckerman, Beasley, Adu, Shea FW: Gomez, Cooper, Bruin, Wondolowski Basically, this is Landon's last chance- If he can't wake up for this game then he's never going to get up. This is a 22-man camp, and I don't expect everybody to play. In fact, Gonzalez will probably not be match fit, he'd probably just get called into camp for rehab, and some of the newer guys, like Bruin, are getting a look in camp because they have been sharp. I like the idea of a Cooper/Gomez strike team. And here is what I think Mexico's roster would look like: GK: Corona, Rodriguez DF: Marquez, Salcido, Ponce, Jimenez, Torres Nilo, Mier, Ayala, Vidrio MF: Molina, Reyna, Herrera, Fabian, Cortes, Zevala, Lugo, Aquino FW: DeNegris, Calderon, Peralta, Pulido More than likely a potent mix of first-teamers and Olympians. The US midfield is better and the goalkeeping is equal, but in defense and up top I think Mexico seriously outclass us big time*. I think Marco Fabian is seriously underrated and could punk us, and he is the midfield player I worry the most about. Salcido is the weak link in their defense, and I think if Marquez acts like he normally does when he wears the captain's armband against the US, I don't see Mexico keeping a clean sheet in Azteca. My match prediction is that the US will lose. But under Klinsi, the US looks spectacularly sharp in one-time games (See USA v Italy). Before Klinsi's overtraining bogs down the US players, we do remarkably well. We looked fantastic against Scotland before fatigue caught up with the squad. Mexico wins 2-1 but I think they will have to work for it. I think for some spells, the Azteca crowd will be pensive and silent. *Amazingly, I think Cameron and John together would work wonderfully. But it's our outside backs I am worried about here.
