I am so against refs being able to do instant replays. I hope they never have replays...

There's something about instant replays that I don't like. If they were played on a screen in the stadium to show a referee what an a-hole job he had done, maybe. Problem is what I foresee as a lot of nit-picking and second-guessing that will slow the game down considerably. In addition to control by TV commercials over the game, replays are what make a 60-minute NFL game last for four hours.

Ah but if you can only get a play review if you give up a sub than there is a cost to delaying the game.

The problem is game deciding calls by the officials (or lack of call in this case) that needs to be addressed. A major change needs to be made. A little extra fitness and "rules review" doesn't help as those are minor band-aids.

I am certainly not dead set on the review option (and yes it would lengthen the games) but the alternative is a poor result that shouldn't happen. I know I would give another 10 to 15 minutes a game if that meant that the instances of poor officiating were drastically reduced.

Real change needs to happen, what is your suggestion to reverse the direction of League officiating?

I'm not sure, Randy, I don't know if instant replays would do it.
I think the suggestion that I liked most was by the person who said that the referees in the league should be full-time, certified professionals. I don't know what the situation is with these guys right now. We certainly see them enough that they must be close to having full-time jobs with the league.
If this were any other area, and they were certified as a professional and screw up in the performance of their duties, they could be tried for professional negligence, sued for malpractice and/or disbarred from ever practicing again. I don't know how applicable that would be to the world of professional sports, though.

Agreed. The only thing I can say is that it has moved from the surface to the layer just below.

Since I recorded the game I was able to watch the play over and over last night. Everytime it made me mad. I was tempted to send it to mls offices but that might be a little overkill. Oh well, only a few days until we kick the crap out of la.

From what little I have read they are only part-time with the league. Making them full-time and farming them out to other competions as was suggested by another poster would be a way to deflect at least part of the additional cost.

Does this solution go far enough though? Are there examples of this in leagues that consistently demostrate a better quality of officiating?

I think a bigger problem is the league needs to hear more complaints from us. I have seen a lot of notes on the board but only a handful of notes that people have sent to MLS and to the Earthquakes. As core fans we are a great barometer for the product that the MLS is producing. The coaches and even the players are severely limited in their ways to express disgust with the league as they are paid by them. We as fans and ticket buyers though can decide whether to go to the game or even watch it on TV. We are their lifeblood.

Like solrac said...the quacks came into the game looking for a tie and they got what they deserved!!

I was @ the game and the ref miscalled so many things!! The ref was so biased. He called everything against us and hardly anything against the quakcs. Conrad was lucky he just got a yellow card for shoving cobi. I was sitting a few rows to the left of where it happened and you could hear stupid conrad shove him. He deserved a red for that!! So quit your moaning about that and about the call. I agree that it was offsides but what are u going to do about it? Im upset that we won the way we did but you cant do anything about it. so give it up already! Sucks to be a San Jo Sucks fan right now!!!

WERE GONNA KICK YOUR ASS ON SATURDAY!!!!

    GO GALAXY!!!

    Quick question

Does anyone know the best way to print these posts? I'm thinking about putting together a scrap book and I just wanted to know the best way to print them without all the advertisements and stuff.

For added effect I thought I would get some of the printed posts and mail them to you, so you could cry on them, I think the tear stained pages of the scrap book would really show the emotion of the time.

    Quakes fans, rooting for Twellmen.......Priceless.

I guess they don't teach you how to read in the LA educational system. I found out a few weeks ago that you can't count either (when I was told the game was over at 60 minutes).

Allow me to help you out. At the bottom of the thread there is a link that says "printable version." Since you can't read it, that's the one with the little printer symbol to the left of it. Click that to get your printable version. If you so desire, you can mail it to me. I will make sure to return it after I use it to wipe my ass with the LA fans posts.

So did you "hear" Jar Jar shove Jimmy about 50 times before that too?

I agree Jimmy was wrong in his reaction. But I guarantee you Tracy Chapman was pushing for that card intentionally.

    no offense gang,

but you guys are acting like this is the first or worst "bad" call made in mls history. i'll bet you dollars to donuts that for every "terrible" call against the quakes, a fan from every other team has one about how their team was screwed.

we all have rose-tinted glasses on when it comes to our team, we see the missed calls that go against us, but the ones in our favor are glossed over as "make ups" for all the bad calls.

i didn't see the game, but it sounds like ruiz was offsides. bad non-call by the ref. i see it as a the "evening out" of bad calls, but i know next time an important call goes against one of my teams, i'll be pissed. hopefully not to the point you guys are getting (and yes galaxy fans do have cause re: kansas city semi final in 2000, mls cup in 1999, etc...)

bottom line is nothing has been decided. there is still a game to play on saturday and had this been a quakes win or even a draw, i don't think saturday's game would have been played any differently. and let's remember, while winning the shield and conference title will be great, it's the cup that really matters.

anyway, here's hoping for a great, non-controversial game saturday.

It was still beautiful telling Tracy Chapman how much he sucked on the corner kicks....damn he was pissed.

Between this and the other incident...the MLS office is going to really get to know some of us Quakes fans.
