Now it costs for about 150-200 grivna( 15-25$, and more, it depends of taxist's greedy), but I gues it will be somewhat more expensive during the competitions. Regular bus are most chipier but it spent more time to get, and they are not too comfortable. I know the hotel in Donetsk, ~6 km from stadium(I rent my office here), they have rooms, but I don't shure if Corona approves to post their phone. If he let me, I will
I booked flights 9 months ago. I'm only in Donetsk from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning. I've been hitting google for hours, and there's nothing between zero star accomodation and places wanting £150 a night (usually far more) Annoyingly, there was somewhere OK yesterday, but it took so long for dobovo.com to reply to my emails about confirmation (I was sending one a day for over a week) that it'd gone before I was able to find out that my room was cancelled. It's actually the second time they've cancelled on me. Neither time did they bother to let me know. I have a refund, but 24 hours too late. I think the fan camp site looks most likely, even if it's just a load of tents in the middle of nowhere. My other booking (4 days in Kiev) also moved the location of their hostel without telling me, but were unable to confirm what my new room would be like after several days of asking, so I cancelled that myself, and did find somewhere else.
Richard, you seem to have a really bad luck!!! have you tried to look for accommodation at these two websites I gave you? I see a lot of cheap alternatives in Donetsk, but don't know your dates though.
Can everyone do the mods a favor and not quote/reply to spammers posting their contact info for accommodations, interpreters, drivers, etc... We are trying to keep this forum as spam-free as possible so that real discussion can take place.
I tried those. Nothing really suitable. I did find somewhere else. Looked really decent so I booked up. Only afterwards did I find that the hostel location on the site was "wrong", and rather than being in the centre, it's about 12km west. Saying that, the public transport links don't look too bad, but the owner wants 50% payment via unistream, and I haven't got the foggiest idea of how to get that to work, so I may have to just cancel anyway. The problem really is UEFA booking every hotel for themselves and sponsors, which is creating the shortage. I bet many of those rooms won't even get used.
Are you alone, or travelling with others. I've never been to Donetsk, so haven't a clue what its like, but our resident Ukraine guru says its pretty crap, so why not see if you can get a train to somewhere(anywhere??) overnight in a sleeper, have a look around wherever you go, and then get a train back overnight? Haven't a clue what availability will be like now, but it is very cheap, even for 1st or 2nd class in a sleeper compartment, for example two of us travelling to Kiev from Simferopol in a 2 berth 1st class sleeper costs £38 each. Bargain!!
LOOOL, now that would be a service! Btw: 2 friends from Nuremberg are going to fly to Charkov (Nuremberg's twin-town) for the "Germany vs Holland" game. Their problem: They have tickets, but no accomodation yet (hotels are either booked or too expensive). Does anybody know about the camping situation in or around the city during the Euro 2012?
Donetsk may be industrial but since the current oligarchy who run (own) the country are based there it's one of the cleanest and most modernized cities in Ukraine. That said its a coal mining town that's only 2-300 years old so there's nothing to do, unlike in Kiev which is the birthplace of eastern Slavic culture and over a millennium old.
There are dozens of little mini hotels outside of town. These are extremely modern and nice little resorts for city folk who want some nature on the weekend. Two I know are stary saltov (старые салтов) and p'yana khata (пьяна хата). Your issue will be transport as you'll likely need a car to get there. But these are very nice places. Stary saltov is the closest and would be more possibly accessed by marshutka. If I were in Ukraine I'd call around for you but sadly I'm not.
Dnepropetrovsk is a (relatively) nice town as well. Also you can consider mariupol or the surrounding areas although these areas might be booked with beach goers.
Thanx for the info. My 2 friends hope to find a camping opportunity (with tent) not far away from the city/stadium (as being the case i.e. in Nuremberg during the WC 2006). I think they checked the web and also got some infos from the tourist centre ... however, they (obviously) still aren't perfectly informed about the real situation in Charkov ahead and after a EC matchday. Is camping a big issue in Ukrainian cities?
Near 23 cerpnya (translation 23 of August in Russian 23 Augusta) metro station there is a forest where people BBQ. I suppose you could camp there. Although I'd be on the lookout for drunks. I don't really know enough about camping in Kharkov since I've never done it. Stary saltov (ukrainian: saltiv) has some very cheap cabins on the river. That'd be more official and safer. Still you'd have to be willing to deal with getti there.
So you think that camping with a tent might not be safe? Hmm. Thanx for the info about the cabins in Stary Saltov, I'm gonna tell them about this opportunity (maybe they're taking a taxi then).
You can probably find a bus out there. If they decide to do it I can call some people to find out about the bus. I really don't know enough about camping to say if it's safe or not to be honest. Cabins in stary saltov were $10-15 per night a few years ago. That's the baseline not very nice cabin. Really don't know the prices now though.
Other option is people at the train station offering places. Жильё is the Russian sign. If they want to save money komnata (комната) is just a shared room. Could be a cheap option. Take care of your belongings obviously. Kvartira (квартира) means your get the whole apartment.
There'd be no time. I arrive the night before England play, and leave the morning after. I think I might have worked out how the unistream thing works, so I'll give that a go tomorrow
Any football fan with a stadium ticket could travel for free within the country? Hmm, somehow I didn't learn of that sensational service back in 2006/2008...
I couldn't see where a new thread can be started, guess this option has been disabled for new users, anyway, a few words - what I wanted to say: met a few Dutch tourists near Kiev, and the person at the gas station couldn't understand them at all; so I thought of offering some translation help in case you really need help. You won't have to pay for translation, it's my personal initiative to make the visit a bit comfortable. I am fluent in English, Russian and Ukrainian and would be happy to help to the best of my ability (hope the number of calls remains reasonable). If you think this is something you could use at some point, PM me and I will PM you back with a UA cell phone number. Additionally, if you have question about Ukraine, I would be happy to share some information here too. Thanks!
I'm affraid you can't do this because i think the transport structures are not related to the euro championship. I live in Ukraine and i heard nothing about this.
If anyone's got any questions about Donetsk or needs any help feel free to ask. [the same about Kiev-if you going to visit quartfinal and have some questions-feel free to ask]
