Well, no-one seemed to care one way or the other, so I am starting a new transfer thread, so there! I've seen a couple of interesting (to me) rumors on "1893 news" on Twitter & news from VfB's website: News: VfB sign Kiesewetter: http://www.vfb.de/en/aktuell/meldun...-kiesewetter/page/1470-0-1-1337167015.html?f2 Possible on the way out: Possible on the way in: Staying Put:
Here's to more good transfers! According to BILD we are interested in Sascha Riether for the RB spot...
If Schieber goes, I wish him the absolute best. I don't think he's ever really gotten a fair run with us.
From VfB's website: http://www.vfb.de/en/aktuell/meldungen/news/2012/statement-schieber/page/1476-0-1-1337794523.html?f2 ...and from "1893news" on Twitter:
My translation of a kicker article.Stuttgart: Might The Attacker Stay??Bobic Not Giving Up On SchieberJulian Schieber’s departure from Stuttgart seems to already be sealed. The striker seemed to be already headed for two-time defending Bundesliga Champions and 2012 German Cup Winners Borussia Dortmund. However, now, there seem to be signs of a turnaround. Will Schieber actually stay at Stuttgart? After a telephone call with Scheiber, Stuttgart Director of Sport Fredi Bobic is hopeful. Bobic stated: “I have the feeling the issue can still turn.”So far, everything in this potential Scheiber transfer has happened as in a comparative case. That of Christian Träsch in summer 2011. As Schieber does, Träsch had one year left on his contract and Stuttgart could not convince him to extend. Ultimately, rather than lose Träsch for nothing, VfB opted to sell him to VfL Wolfsburg for 9M Euros. And now Fredi Bobic is going through this again, Scheiber, whose contract expires after next season, doesn’t want to extend his contract. He wants to move to German Double Winners Borussia Dortmund only to one week later suggest a surprising turn. According to information received by kicker, Stuttgart requested a transfer fee of 8M Euros. Too much for Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said in a conversation with Stuttgart’s CFO Ulrich Ruf, “there is no way there will be a ‘6’ before the comma” (in any Schieber transfer fee), only a lower number will be possible.Watzke is not going to back down in this respect. His attitude and the discrepancy between the totals are not the only grounds from which Bobic draws hope. “I have a feeling the issue can still turn”, Bobic said in a relaxed manner after a phone call with Schieber. “We do not want to sell Julian and will see what is possible. We have time.”Or will this be a second Träsch case? Apparently, Bobic couldn’t handle the uncertainty last year. “You have to see each person individually”, says Bobic. “Julian is a very different type.”
Well, good news for you guys. Didavi returning to Stuttgart. Such a bad injury for him though...I think it is 6 months at least, ugh. Poor kid.
Not a good time to get injured. Hajnal's spot looks up for the taking but when he's back someone else might have become comfortable there already. Maybe related: VfB has signed Tunay Torun, 22 year old, turkish offensive all-rounder from Hertha. Never heard from the guy before.
Torun is a young talent, 21 years old. 4 goals in 20 matches for Hertha this season, he did not play well for most of the season, but none of the side did. He certainly appears to have potential - Labbadia rates him from his time watching Torun develop at HSV - and so I think this is probably a solid buy. Uphill struggle if the guy will want a starting place though.
It wasn't a buy at all, was it? The club's Facebook profile says we got him "ablösefrei." Definitely fits our way of doing things. Have to wait and see on this one.
So Schieber is gone already. Transfer fee rumored to be around 5.5 mil Eu, I think. Hope he enjoys all the time he'll have on the Dortmund bench!
From VfB's website, here's a piece about Tim Hoogland, on a year-long loan from Schalke: http://www.vfb.de/en/aktuell/meldungen/news/2012/tim-hoogland/page/1529-0-1-1340988855.html?f2
And now we have an injury-prone, 2nd-string RB from Schalke. Cool. <sarc> I'm guessing he's a backup, and they should mostly start Gotoku Sakai...
Spoke with my Uncle who lives in Ludwigsburg the other day. He said people are laughing at what VfB is doing these days. Not sure how they think they can be competitive in Europe let alone in the Bundesliga with the moves we've made so far. He said that the biggest need is a creative midfielder to take control of the play. I'm going back to visit family and friends at the end of August for three weeks, so I'll try to make it to a game or two, I'll report back as I can.
I am not saying VfB is right here. I don't know. I think they're gambling myself. However, once upon a time, people in Dortmund railed against "youth policy" BVB went to. They laughed and said the club would be ruined. Four years later.......... "People" don't always know what to laugh about. "People" laugh about things they aren't used to. VfB might be right here. They might not be. Only time will tell. I agree that on the surface, it doesn't look very good. But let's see how it looks on the pitch. That is what matters. I hope you enjoy your trip very much and you do make the matches!
Trust me, I believe going with a youth movement is the right choice. But VfB has been on the youth track for a long time. I remember growing up in the Stuttgart area in the 90's and early 2000's. Every year we would have a young player who had the potential to be a star, just to see him leave the following season to Bayern or Schalke. At some point I think a choice needs to be made. If your going to successfully pump out talented young players on a yearly basis, then there needs to be more effort in holding on to them. On the other side, if your going to keep selling these players for pretty good money to major clubs, then reinvest some of this into star players to build our own team around. I'd love to see more of Kevin Stoeger this season. I think he has the potential to be that "playmaker" my uncle mentioned. I'm very big on Sakai, but I also see him as the type of player who will just move on to a top club in a few seasons, because our management doesn't try to hold on to him.
Trust me, this is what Dortmund is going through right now. Especially with losing Sahin and Kagawa the past two seasons and probably going to lose Lewandowski after the coming season. However, "keeping these players" isn't as simple as some people think it is. Especially if they've already had their heads turned by a more attractive situation. I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but the best example of this is what just happened with Julian Schieber. When those situations happen, the player is in control. If the player decides to leave, and sticks to that decision, there's nothing the club can do about it. I think you are right on about reinvesting that money. That is what Dortmund is doing differently. In the case of Kagawa leaving, we didn't wait for the decision. We spent the money we needed to in order to get a statistically superior player (Reus) and potentially recouped all of it with the sale of Kagawa. If there is anything I'm disappointed in VfB for it is that they haven't been more active in the transfer market. It makes me believe something else is going on behind the scenes. They could also simply believe they have a good enough team already. It could be many things. But again, this all will be decided on the pitch.
Your take appears to be the same as the prevailing thoughts on this board. VfB seems to be able to sell various players (not all young) for decent money, but there are few purchases, especially of the kind that would fill a needed position - especially a player that might put the team over the top towards a BL championship.
You've got Didavi who will be back from injury in January.... He looks like the real deal. He's even been given the number 10 for this season.
