Travelling from UK to Kiev for the Final only, have I left it too late?

    Just wondering what people think.

I can't seem to find flights for less than £600 return, now thinking maybe it would be better to fly and then get a train in from somewhere, or would this be too longwinded??

    Any ideas?

    Thanks all.

Really it depends on how much time you have. There will be a lot of fans coming into Kiev from Warsaw on trains after the semi-final there. Berlin would be another option with reasonable connections (and maybe cheaper flights from London).

Well I have plenty of time, if it doesn't cost much to do!

Wizzair Luton to Warsaw a few days before and after the Final for under 120 quid return and then an overnight train journey each way to Kiev to save on hotels sounds a good option.

Not sure about sharing a sleeper with people for security reasons, what do you think?

I was thinking more .... Land in Warsaw, head to the station and get the overnight sleeper to Kiev. Stay in a hostel on the 1st in Kiev, take a look around the city for a few hours on the 2nd and get the overnight train back to Warsaw. :)

Thanks, again I have the same security concern at a hostel. Maybe I should book out the whole cabin of the train where my sleeper berth would be!

to vienna or berlin, get the entire sleeper (usully 2 berths) on a Ukrainian train, get ready to pass UA border at night (litttle pleasant), get to Kyiv. The entire adventrue one way 2 days max. Have a credit and a debit card, pay/withdraw by debit. Ukraine is not as scary as they say, for a free Staying Alive in Ukraine report click here http://www.goukraineexpat.info/free_reportupdates

It'll be fine unless you are an amazingly heavy sleeper, as well as being unlucky enough to be in the compartment with somebody who is a thief, who is also skilled enough as a thief to go through your stuff without you or the other people noticing.

I would not be any more worried on a Ukrainian train than any European sleeper train. I've been on all of them even the worst. Don't do stupid stuff like leave a $100 lying around while you're in the bathroom and you'll be fine.

Dude, comman...... U call us rasists... But you are the one being prejudiced... wtf do you think will happen to you???? are you some kind of prince of England or something? .... Dude, relax... This is Ukraine, not Somalia........ we don't bite...... you dear London is far more dangerous..... If you have that attitude towards Ukraine and Ukrainian people (you are afraid of travelling in Ukrainian train, because it is Ukrainian train) - then I would advice you to stay at home and watch the final at the TV.

I am so f*cking tired about yours view towards this country.

Pylyp you're being no better painting him with a big brush because of a flimsy national association.

Actually the "safest" way is to book platskart (3 cat) - because you have a bunch of people around.

Booking a whole coupe for yourself is actually less safer.... If something happens, nobody will see it or hear you))

But really, don't you worry... Don't flash with expensive stuff and keep an eye on your belongings.

Wait a minute, I'm being prejudiced? DON'T BE SO STUPID.

All I am saying is that as I would be travelling alone I don't think I would be in the safest environment, at night, in a foreign country, Ukraine or wherever.

Did you find anything in the end to help with your decision?

Hmmm? ... I don't think so? Maybe an idea to get people who want to meet up to put when and where they will be at certain times etc.

Not going to final, but our route to Donetsk is via Istanbul.
Have you tried looking for indirect flights with good connections?
