I always thought she was small because she's a girl... 5'2" (as she is listed most places not imdb) is short, but it's not little person short. She is young and has a young face that they make look even younger. That helps a lot so she can get roles instead of child actors that need to worry about labor laws. I used to work with a girl who was 22, but routinely used to audition for roles as young as 12-year olds. Some of her look is simply make-up and styling. The same applies for Winter. She is reaching that age that I'm afraid of my girls reaching, but even the glasses a long way in keeping her younger. The girls on that bleh Tim Allen show confuse me with their ages though. Likewise, Jane Levy doesn't work with me on Suburgatory. For no reason at all...
Petite and dark can be very deceptive. I knew a 30-year old who got carded nonstop. She was 5' 2", 100 pounds, wore young clothes. Her age have been anything from high school senior on upwards.
Agree with Superdave. Scarlett Johansen is listed at 5' 4" and she sure seems onscreen a LOT taller than Sarah Hyland.
Scarlett Johansson does movies. Men in movies are often short. *cough*Tom Cruise*cough* The Modern Family cast actually has a fairly diverse and representative range of heights. Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell are both above 6-feet tall and Sofia Vergara is 5'7". Reid Ewing (Dylan) is also listed as 6'2". That's nearly a foot taller than Hyland. The only height I ever gave a second thought to was Rico Rodriguez. He has always appeared to be short. Press photos often do a lot to make the heights different than what they actually are to emphasize character traits or roles. Although this is an older press photo, you can tell they did some magic.
We've often sung the praises of what a great young actor Rico Rodriguez is, but I think Nolan Gould is actually his equal, just playing a very different role. I thought he was terrific in the roller-coaster scenes.
I wonder if his great onscreen chemistry with Ty Burrell was just a happy coincidence or if they really looked for this in casting.
I should have seen it coming the entire episode, but somehow I didn't. I felt a little dumb for missing the obvious while I got caught up in the mini-telenovela. More importantly, it didn't take 1:20 for Gloria to be bouncing around. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Billboard Music Awards.
There are a few reasons not to like the Gloria pregnancy. Of course this is bigger than Al ********ing Bundy scoring four touchdowns in game. I'm always jealous of Ed O'Neill.
I think that was the point? They talk about a Mexican soap opera and then walk into a real-life one at the hospital.
