When I think of Baltimore (Towson), I think Michael Phelps. Nothing says Baltimore like Michael Phelps. This is slightly encouraging news though.
I know it's pretty much off-topic, but I thought it was interesting so I'm going to link to it here. General Growth shows interest in Vornado properties
I don't know what those emoticons are supposed to represent. But if the answer is "huh?" then I agree with them.
They're a large real estate developer and property owner. They own a lot of properties in the DC area. It appears, from the article, that they're looking to sell off their indoor mall properties (which is kind of a dying business). Not really sure what that has to do with United's stadium search, though.
Yeah, I don't really see the relevance either, notwithstanding earlier posts. But their Wikipedia page indicates owned properties, including many in DC and the DC area.
They own the Georgetown Mall, which they've recently emptied out. My prediction: DC United stadium to be built on the site of the Georgetown Mall. Metro will build a stop right under the new stadium and Wisconsin Avenue will be shut down on game days for tailgating. It could happen.
I'm waiting for the conspiracy theory years from now about how Georgetown residents stopped this from happening.
Too bad the Georgetown NIMBYs, also rejected a Metro stop. Its why there is a Virginia Square metro station and not an M. St. metro station.
I don't know if you all saw this, but I can't imagine it's good news. http://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/news/2012/05/24/dc-united-to-repay-maryland-for.html?ana=twt
The Mayor about to go down is probably more of a negative sign. Although it would be kind of funny that the only thing the Gray administration accomplished was a DC United stadium.
meh, if they hadn't agreed to pay for it if they don't move, it would not have been done because it might just be a bargaining chip with DC. Of course, I doubt Maryland asked the Cleveland Browns to pay for anything if by chance they didn't move to Baltimore.
Of course, budgetary times were far better then than they are now. Alls I gotta say, if they're raisin' my taxes, there better be a stadium somewhere soon!
