Guangzhou Evergrande playing for all of China. A Chinese team hasn't won the AFC CL in 20 years.

Umm, no。 They are playing for Guangzhou, nobody in China wants this joke of a side to represent them. Firing your coach, relying solely on your foreigners, falling ass backwards into the Round of 16. Please, nobody should feel proud of Hengda today.

Uhm. I got that from an article. Guangzhou said they feel like they are playing for all of China. Sorry that you got confused.

I don't like how they are firing Lee despite the fact he is bringing in good results...

Hopefully, the chairman of Guangzhou Evergrande knows what he is doing and it won't be a fail like Shanghai and Tigana or replacing Gao Hongbo with Camacho.

The fact is this team has electrified the Chinese soccer fan base. Even the most pessimistic fans are now following AFC and supporting this team. The only Chinese team in a long while that can consistently win matches in the last minute.

It's a tough decision but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because of his impressive track record with tough decisions as the chairman of Guangzhou Evergrande . :)

i see lee jang-soo's dismissal is a joke, and i hope this is fake news.

    as of today:
    CSL: 1st place
    ACL: qualified from group stage
    FA Cup: haven't start yet.

there is no problem with the current situation, and why are we hiring some foreigner that doesn't understand chinese football to be the coach? i wouldn't be surprised if lippi (or another coach) flushing everything away.

It's not fake news and it is extremely unfortunate. Lippi's an incredibly accomplished manager, but he's never coached ANYWHERE outside of Italy and he has no room for error. I can't see this going well, but perhaps his experience will help him fix some of the locker room issues the team is facing and earn the respect of some of the stars to get them playing again.

Touche. Beijing at least gave it a go, the loss in Tokyo was bad, but other than that, all the matches were draws or one goal games. Tianjin was an embarrassment. I just think it was pathetic how Buriram played their hearts out yesterday while Hengda were completely outplayed in the 2nd half and yet won when gifted a penalty.

Dude, maybe you're electrified, but I'm in China and in talking with the "Chinese fan base" across the country, I'm not feeling the electricity. Hengda's fate has nothing to do with the Chinese parts of the team, they win or lose based on if Conca, Muriqui, and Cleo can be arsed to play or not.

Dude, maybe you're so down because you hate anything positive that has a Chinese face attached to it. But even our resident pessimist CFF is getting excited about this team. That says something. Not to mention the overwhelmingly positive posts on various Chinese soccer boards. Something I haven't seen for a long time about Chiense soccer. But you probably don't read Chinese. Or do you?

So? they are there playing for a Chinese team under Chinese management. Next you'll say New Yorkers shouldn't be cheering for the Knicks because Jeremy Lin is not from New York. Your xenophobic part aside, how's Gao Lin not Chinese? You've been bashing him probably precisely because he's the best striker China has today.

Touche to him but you missed his point completely. What he is saying is Chinese fans are capable of feeling embarrassed by Tianjin and Beijing. And in turn, unlike you, capable of feeling proud of Guangzhou.

It's a tough decision but Xu is looking at the longer term. For the short term it's iffy but probably not as bad as Camacho's case. Key players he'll be dealing with are not all Chinese so the dynamics are a bit different. Second he doesnt' have to answer to the bureaucratic CFA but rather the very shrewd Heng Da Chairman Xu.

The news was announced before the flight from Bangkok to Guangzhou.

The team gives its last departure for the coach.
Li Shuai (on the far left) and Zhang Linpeng (under the art) are known to be particularly emotional (as shown through their weibo).

The player who would miss Lee Jang-soo the most would be Gao Lin. Why? Gao hasn't scored a goal in many matches and that would be unacceptable in most teams. Lee still gave him chance to perform, and Gao wouldn't expect his first goal of the season would be the last game for Lee.

Cho Won-hee, one of Lee Jang-soo's trusted associates. Cho would be one of the fastest players who would rush to Lee during the pitch to seek advice (he would rush to Lee when players go for water, certain players get injured)

I could write a long post combatting your claims of my "xenophobia" (a very odd statement), with the fact that I came back to China and when I'm not sitting behind a keyboard, I'm actually taking action and doing things to help Chinese soccer. Or that while I don't base things off of one "resident pessimist", instead its based on what I've read in the media (outside of zuqiu bao which is the mouthpiece of Hengda), on weibo, and in tiebas (sorry those last two things are things you've probably never heard of as an ABC whose never been to China before).

But why bother doing that, instead, I'll let your above comments stand for themselves. Gao Lin, the best striker China has. Right, he's really lighting things up, scoring his first goal this year despite it already being two and a half months into the season. Or that Yang Xu (4 league goals already) has almost as many NT goals as him in a third of the appearances. That statement just shows the extent of your knowledge of Chinese soccer.

    OK, I can't resist a bit of sh!t stirring.

Just because a Chinese club does well in an international club competition, it doesn't mean that ALL Chinese fans will get behind it.

If for example Henan had made it through I doubt that chengb02 would be wishing them well.

Some will get behind a club due to (mis-placed) national pride, others will not because the club is a rival to their own in the domestic league.

WRT English football I will NEVER support Woolwich Wanderers (that's Ar5ena1, btw) or the Chavs (Chelski) when they play in Europe. In the A-League I wish only misfortune on the Tards (Melbourne Victory) and Sydney FC (wherever they play). All of them are a bunch of tossers.

However if you want to get behind Hengda even if you don't support them, because they come from the same country you were born in or your ancestors came from then fair enough.

Haha, actually, I cheered for Henan the last time they were in ACL (though it was before last year's incident) and I'd do so again, I only hate their lowlife fans and the thieves that the province produces in droves.

To be honest, I even grudgingly support Tianjin in the ACL, the only team that there's no chance I'd support is Shanghai and, growingly, Hengda. There's been a big rivalry between Guoan and Hengda with both clubs signing away players from the other and it seems we'll be fighting them for the league title once again. I don't like how freely they are spending money and the lack of permanence to their efforts. People like Xu are not good for Chinese soccer, he's putting in the money now, but is he going to get bored after a couple more years? What good are league titles when the team goes through yet another name/color/identity change and becomes Guangzhou Fill-in-the-blank.

That's a strawman you're humping on there. Obviously not "everybody". And I never said "everybody". And equally as obvious, not "nobody should".

And it's obvious from reading on the web that there's a long missed buzz about Chinese soccer because of Hengda.
