Apparently Parkie picked up a fractured toe before the last match. Not sure how long he'll be out. http://www.fcn.dk/47/?tx_ttnews[tt_news]=459&cHash=9d42adcfc6a32360faa14c640d42285f
Parkhurst returned from his broken toe on Saturday as F.C. Nordsjælland won a wild one at home against AGF Aarhus 5-3. Highlights. Parkhurst (#18 in red) is playing left center back. On the second goal (starting at 31 seconds),the ball falls to a man wide open in the box by the end line. Parkhurst goes to close him down, but the ball is cut back to an open man six yards out (who the midfielder for some reason decided to stop tracking in the penalty box). On the third goal (starting at 1:20), Parkhurst is marking no one as his center back partner leaves his man at the penalty spot to move towards another AGF player heading into the box from behind of both of them. The now unmarked attacker heads in for the goal. Parkhurst's center back partner is not happy about Parkhurst failing to pick up the man he left. FC Nordsjælland have a big game on Wednesday as they host first place FC København. Nordsjælland are in second place, and they are 6 points and 10 goals of goal differential behind with 4 games to play. FC Nordsjælland are also trying to hold onto 2nd and a Champions League qualifying spot from Midtjylland who are 6 points and 13 goals behind. Midtjylland host last place HB Køge on Thursday.
Well... since then, Parkhurst and FCN have managed to beat FC København by 1-0 and Lyngby by 2-0 (with Parkhurst making an assist), while FC København only managed a 1-1 draw at home against OB Odense... so now FCN are only trailing 1 point behind FC København with 3 games left to go. FCN have already secured the Champions League qualifying spot, but they now also have a very good chance of actually taking the Championship and go directly to the Champions league group stage, since FC København are to play two highly difficult away games against SønderjyskE and FC Midtjylland. .
Another Yank championship in the making? Good to hear about Parkhurst's successful season, he deserves a call up for the NT.
Roughly estimated wage budgets, in compare with how they have been doing in the league table so far this season (30 out of 33 rounds played ) : 1. FC København : wage budget: $18 million (Turnover: $234 million, expected surplus $17 million) 2. FC Nordsjælland : wage budget: $3.1 million 3. FC Midtjylland : wage budget: $5.5 million 4. AC Horsens : wage budget: $3.5 million 5. AGF Aarhus : wage budget: $4.5 million 6. AaB Aalborg : wage budget: $4.5 million 7. Silkeborg : wage budget: $3.5 million 8. SønderjyskE : wage budget: $2 million 9. Brøndby : wage budget: $9 million (estimated turnover: $31.5 million, deficit $6 million) 10. OB Odense : wage budget: $11 million (estimated turnover: $45.5 million, deficit $3.9 million) 11. Lyngby : wage budget: $1.5 million 12. HB Køge : wage budget: $1.1 million .
Don't look now, but SønderjyskE have just gone up 2-0 on FC Copenhagen at the hour. It looks fairly safe that FCN will have a chance to take first place with a win tomorrow.
Copenhagen have scored twice quickly to tie it up, four minutes left. If this result stands, they only move two points up on FCN. Update - It ends 2-2, FCN can move into first with a win tomorrow.
Unfortunately FCN and Parkhurst did not manage a win against Odense... they did dominate the match and Parkhurst had no less than two good opportunities to finish off the visitors in the second half, but his first attempt was brilliantly saved by the Odense keeper, while his second attempt struck the top bar after it had been slightly deflected by one of the Odense defenders as you can also see in the highlights below ... so unfortunately 0-0, but Parkhurst made it to the 'Team of the week' btw for the second week in a row... Though there are only two rounds left to play, FCN has far from lost the championship battle, since FC københavn have yet another difficult away match this weekend against FC Midtjylland, only a few days after FCK have played in the Danish Cup final against Horsens... So FCK have a very tough schedule. .
Parkhurst starting at left-back today in the second to last match of the season. Hope he gets a call up into USMNT camp when he's done. http://sportsresultater.tv2.dk/livestats/index.php?eventFK=1018616
Yes... FCN take a 2 point lead in the fight for the Danish championship, with only one round to go... but FC København are facing a mid-table Silkeborg team that has nothing to play for in their last match, while FCN will be up against an AC Horsens team that are fighting for Bronze medals, so it's a difficult task and FCN probably need a win... In any case, while Parkhurst was not able to score against OB Odense last week (when he was playing right back), he made a highly important assist when they beat Brøndby 1-0 away in this match... and as also written by keller4president above, Parkhurst was playing left back in this match, apparently with success. Highlights : .
I forgot to write, that last round is on Wednesday and all games are played at exactly the same time. .
Yeah, and it's odd to me that the season in Denmark is ending this late, given that their national team will be participating in Euro 2012.
I think SuperDave was just surprised that the last round is on a Wednesday. As far as the season ending so late, it's not so big of a deal. How many Danes on the Euro squad actually play in Denmark? 5-6?
The preliminary Euro squad : http://www.dbu.dk/Nyheder/2012/Maj/EM_truppen_udtaget.aspx ... so 7 i would think, since the Danish NT coach is still leaving one spot open for yet another Superliga player. But yes... they want to wrap up the Danish league as quickly as possible this week, because of the national team, so this is why the last round is on a Wednesday. .
So... today is the day we get the answer... is Parkhurst and FCN going to keep their two point lead and become Danish Champions, also earning them a place in the Champions League group stage and around $ 21 million ?, or do they have to settle for Silver medals and Champions League qualifiers ?...
