Well, that blew. It wasn't completely unexpected, but it blew nonetheless. The guys we had out there played with heart, but they just couldn't respond to what Seattle threw at them.
Seattle threw one decent forward at them and that was enough. Gotta finish. We need to sit players that don't finish.
Marcelin definitely has something, would like to see more of him, he may be a replacement for DH next season. Good effort for the starting XI that was out there, other than Hartman stop on Morales in 1st half FCD really had the advantage and created many more good scoring chances. BUT, you have to finish. Montero's 1st shot, or one of the first, he scored. Sealy may have been unlucky not to score but bottom line he didn't score. Castillo will be fun to watch in 2 years but right now he is just pure speed and frustration (ahem, Oduro) and is best for FCD on the wing. If we can get DF10 back healthy and field our preferred starting XI for 3 months to end the season I think we will make the playoffs, but to not get one point over 2 home games is poor, no matter the opposition. LAG will not stay down long and the West is packed, not much time left to screw around throwing away points. I'll have to review my recording of the game but I was quite pleased with Marcelin's play.
Went ahead and transcribed the whole Hyndman post-game presser tonight. There's a ton of good stuff worth checking out. http://www.bigdsoccer.com/2012/5/10/3011188/schellas-hyndman-post-game-press-conference-fcd-reaction
Well that was my last FCD game in person to see for a while. Is there anyone more frustrating to watch than Fabian Castillo? His touches (when they matter) are atrocious. He's like a child out there. Defense was strong but you can't let Montero do that in the box or you pay. We paid. We will pay again.
Castillo is pretty much good at drawing fouls and running by people. How does he not shoot the quick pass from Brek on frame? Which reminds me, is Zach Scott going to hear from the DisCo for his tackle on Fabian?
It'll never happen with Dan Hunt in charge but I think SH is the problem http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/bl...year-rule-barcelona?cat=football&type=article
This is the first game in awhile where I thought Dallas looked like they had a game plan and knew how to execute it. There was rhythm and reason to attacks, they played as a unit going forward and getting back. To be upset by this game is silly, the one thing Dallas was missing to take points is that gamebreaker, and we don't have that without Perez and David. And anyone who gets upset at Castillo needs to take a step back and remember that he is 19, and very green. If he could finish, much in the Dominic Oduro mold, he isn't playing for Dallas in MLS. Look at the post game comments, and you hear the same things I am thinking as I watch him play, he doesn't know how to slow down. His touch isn't terrible, but it's reckless when he is at full speed because he doesn't know how to throttle back with the ball at his feet. It's 100 MPH ball or not, and that obviously doesn't work. He is really selfish when he is in the box, but to be honest, I am glad. I think once he gets a goal or two, they are gonna come flooding in as his confidence grows. His 1v1 game and dribbling in tight areas is something this club hasn't seen, maybe ever. The final product is missing, we all agree, but I would rather watch him create chance after chance after chance, and hope that he learns and grows game to game. That's the point of these young DPs, look at Shea. The kid is so very hot and cold, but you have seen over the last two seasons that when he is on and plays with confidence, that boy goooood.
The bottom line is we have only scored multiple goals in 2...yes TWO of our 11 games. And oh btw, our defense has given up the most goals in the Western Conference. Not a recipe for success. Plainly, we just suck right now.
Good points and an important perspective check. Our defense doesn't have the numbers to back them up but I feel like we are really strong. Benitez has his boneheaded moments and Hernandez is a ticking bomb but George, Ugo, Matt, & Hernan look solid every game. I think that disaster in DC padded those numbers. The real problem right now is the offense.
If Montero had been playing for us instead of against us we win 3-0. As for the defense, we have all the pieces to staff 2 MLS contending teams. Props to Pertuz, who despite getting beat by Montero on both goals is playing his SS off out of position. With CR in the defense, we would be rockin'. If we presently have any weakness in defense, it is presently on the left side of defense.
Steve Davis is reporting that Zach Scott got a retro red for that scary cowardly tackle on Castillo Wednesday. Wrath of gods indeed. Sigh.
I think that the actions of the DC will give the refs the courage to pull the red out when the players commit offenses in which the rules call for red. Ultimately, the refs will not have to pull the reds, because players, coaches, and teams will adjust to the FIFA Laws of the Game. I think that we are slowly, but surely on the way to standardizing MLS with the rest of the world.
Again another player avoids red against FCD only to score the tying goal after one of ours get his second yellow. Seriously if Meara was an FCD player he did enough to get suspended 2-3 times in just a half of a game.
