I'd have Kuyt or Maxi over Downing, but it's very close to the strongest side. I am very happy to see a 4-5-1 without Carra, who would have been torched by Drogba. Though Drogba may torch any defender right now.

Looks good to me. Hope Downing has his best match as a Red.

I agree. Kuyt always scores in the big games. But Kenny clearly thinks the ineffectual Downing and Henderson (when wide) are better than Kuyt and Maxi.

Good luck but why Maxi Rodriguez is on the bench is beyond me. He scores goals and his personal record against Chelsea has been better than most.

Suarez is super isolated, and the midfield isn't pressing and just allowing Chelsea to pass the ball around. A pathetic performance thus far.

If I were Kenny I would sub off either Henderson or Spearing immediately and put Carroll on.

    ^ Exactly.

This is painful. Why start Spearing and Henderson together and not start Carroll? It defies belief.

I don't know if I would blame Reina for that goal. Was hung out to dry by the rest of the team..

Liverpool had the better possession, but no chances created. I don't expect Reina to save that. Still, his technique has lapsed this season.

He was, but it was crap goalkeeping at the same time. He's done that before.

Carroll NEEDS to come on at hafltime. In fact I would sub on Carroll and Kuyt for Bellamy and Henderson.

Shot from that angle and so close is tough to estimate and save, could go either way. Maybe he could have lifted his foot higher but he would never have been in that position had his teammates been somewhat competent. I feel bad for him and Saurez, I really do. They deserve much better than this.

He should have come out more and he should have covered his near post - thats goalkeeping 101.

If Kenny waits until the 70th minute to make any subs I'm going to go ahead and freak the shit out...

Spearing has been awful... It was his whiff that started the Chelsea counter in their goal... Reina cannot let that go in near-post, he absolutely can't... Downing is his useless self, we keep attacking down the left to absolutely no avail...

Maxi and Carroll for downing and spearing... Then Kuyt for Bellamy...

Every near post goal is not the keeper's fault. Spearing should have done better; Enrique should have done better; and Reina should have done better.

Bring on Carroll. Luis is isolated and has hardly seen the ball at all. Enrique has been poor all around beyond just the error on the goal. PAss and move, pass and move, pass and move. I'm ready to see the ball being passed in Chelsea's half a lot more.

Gerrard needs to play further up the pitch, regardless of any substitutions.

Maxi on for Downing. Why does he insist on occupying the space Enrique should be in when we are in possession.
Carroll on at minute 55 if we haven't scored.

From the Guardian about the starting 11:
Not too surprising line-up named by Kenny Dalglish. Downing starts for Liverpool, which means Carroll can't play in case they link up well together. Carragher also misses out and puts his hand over the TV cameras as he makes his pre-match walkabout.

What is with KD? Carroll's playing excellent in the past month, scores the big goal in the semi's, is a handful for any defender, Suarez publicly says he loves playing with him; and KD doesnt start him. I just dont get it.

    GO REDS!
