YAWN, some people come here to have legitamite hockey convo... not listen to dribble from someone that doesnt understand anything about the game.
Dear Hachiko- Long ago, in a galaxy very near you, a team named the Los Angeles Kings used to play in the Forum. For 4 seasons, I had season seats. This was before you were born, before Wayne Gretzky was traded from the Oilers to the Kings. You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but Gary Bettman isn't interested in what you think, and, frankly, neither are the posters in this forum, because your perspective sounds very much like an uninitiated hockey groupie. I have to thank you for the negative rep you gave me. It was such a thoughtful gift.
Can we please keep this to chat about the playoffs and leave the I am better than you contest to PM's?
Only for those who are interested. You're not one of them. We know. But it's only for those who are interested. More...
Is the Caps/Rags game over yet? I fell asleep at halfway through the first OT. They've gotta stop starting games at 7:30 pm, and start them at 7:00.
OMG, could the NBC sports network stop doing Rangers' games. What a drop in quality it is when you go from Sam Rosen to Mike Emrick behind the mic. I swear, at one point last night he said "....and here's the shot, and it hits the glass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111one" (with great emphasis and excitement on the "hits the glass" part). Not everything that happens in a hockey game needs to be described. It's TV , not radio. We can see what's happening. More importantly though, not everything that happens needs to be described like its the most exciting thing that ever happened on the face of the Earth. I didn't stay awake long enough to see the winning goal, did Emrick have a heart-attack by any chance?
That's what drives me nuts about Emrick. He's a good announcer, but he tries to hard to be Vin Scully and talk about things that don't matter or chuck unimportant facts into a game, (Who gives a shit where James Van Reimsdyk grew up in New Jersey, and how his dad used to flood the backyard of his house?!) and he tries to make sure THAT YOU'RE AWAKE BY SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS SO LOUD THAT HE RUNS OUT OF AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I was always partial to Gary Thorne and Bob Cole, when you could get him here in the States. The national announcers that I like are Dave Strader and Kenny Albert. I also like the Kings and Sharks announcers, Pat Foley, and Howie Rose, the TV play-by-play guy for the Islanders, but I'm also partial to the Flyers PBP man Jim Jackson.
I turned it off about half way through the 3rd OT, bad mistake on my part. I guess you guys don't get to hear Chris Cuthbert from TSN, he would get my vote as best announcer from national televised games (Love Bob Cole but his age is catching up to him)
I like Cuthbert. I was always curious if he was in any way related to Elisha Cuthbert. (I figured it was a resounding "No", but Elisha is still hot.) I liked TSN's coverage when I had NHL Center Ice, and when NHL Network would do Wednesday Night Hockey. I liked their between periods stuff a lot better than ESPN's or Versus/NBCSN.
doc emerick is one of the best announcers in sports and really bring the nhl playoffs to life... i enjoy it. Granted he's no bob miller but these ears have been spoiled between miller, chick hearn and vin scully
I liked Thorne and Clement. I don't mind Doc, but here in LA, we have the afore-mentioned Bob Miller, who renders most other pbp guys mediocre.
Still waiting for a color guy who actually breaks the game down rather than just saying, "well that was a good shot there Jim." CBC guys do it, but in the US it must be outlawed.
