That goes without saying but I those singled those two out because they were wreaking havoc on both sides of the ball. Other than Kompany with a very important cameo on the offensive end of a set piece. They literally went up and down the flanks threatening and giving Jones and Evra fits. The central defense would defend then kind of just chill out when the ball passes the halfway line. However, Clichy and Zabaleta would continue to follow the ball and make runs. They ran like dogs for the entire match.
They were made to look average by a very hard working and organised ManC side. ManU sides have normally had very good wingers and get a lot of success by using them. Today they were stopped very effectively on both sides. Rooney was totally isolated up front. Not a shot on target Fergie is an exceptional manager, but even he cant work miracles with just Rooney, some no-more-than average players, a few past-it superstars, and a shakey defence. Despite his support of the Glazers, I wonder when he's lying in bed tonight staring at the ceiling, whether he'll be wondering what he could have done had his spending ability not been hamstrung
City and United Yes, a little off-topic, but a very interesting match. I did a quick write-up about it, nothing fancy. Mods, not sure if this is okay to post. If not, feel free to delete. Here ya go - http://lastwordonsports.com/2012/04/30/citywinsbattleofmanchester/
yet he has spent superstar dollars on average players like anderson, valencia, and berbatov. (all of which barely play).
Fergie game plan was to contain City and play for a draw. He crowded the midfield and only played with one winger (Nani) with Rooney totally isolated. United didn't show anything going forward and deserved to lose.
except you can't "crowd the midfield" with 2 guys who were badass in 1999. way too much space for citeh with a bunch of oldies in the midfield for manyoo. citeh wanted to win this game, manyoo tried to not lose.... i'm just shocked the scoreline wasn't bigger.
The "crowded midfield" technique kind of worked. Citeh scored on a poorly-defended corner but didn't generate much danger in the run of play until ManUre started "going for it" later in the second half.. My biggest questions are the inclusion of Jones over Valencia and not making any changes at half-time. The bolded part is 100% correct.
yaya toure>utd midfield young and jones are flops, rooney has propelled them to 2nd almost single handidly city were just miles better and more organised, i can't believe how easily their midfield dominated utds
Fergie really lost the game in his lineup. I still think he should have started Howard Webb over Andre Marriner.
just finished watching United were embarrassed this evening. United looked like City did when we played them earlier this month. 8 point lead and they blew it. Disgusting. Zero shots on goal for Manchester United.
also, Fergie was embarrassing with his tactics. He was shook. Why was Valencia on the bench? Why was slow ass Giggs playing? United are an attacking/swashbuckling team and Fergie decided to leave Rooney on his own. Disgusting tactics. yeah, the tactic did actually work because City didnt do much themselves. But United are supposed to be swashbucklers, entertainers. Fergie was shook.
Maybe over the course of the season, but Clichy had a great, great game today and Nasri was fine. Even with his miss. Nasri did not try to walk the ball in, the ball just never got off his foot for him to strike the ball. Well, it was 10 man Man Utd vs 11 man Man City. How in a game this important Ferguson chose to play Scholes for 70 minutes and Giggs, (Giggs!) for the full 90 is beyond me. Scholes has slowed way down and needs some runners wide (and Young and Valencia on the bench) and Giggs was out and out useless. If he wanted some experience and guile, well then, Ferguson should have started Giggs and played him for 45 and then brought in Scholes for the second half. Agree that the Man Utd boards are a fun read this evening. Imagine if BS had gone dark this evening, all that pent up hostility would have had no where to go....
Funny that no one mentions the incessant barcelona like referee baiting of the entire United team. Hey if this would've been a match vs Forurnners we'd nevr have heard the end of that behavior. Fuhk United. Really want City to win, United are as bad as Juventus during the Calciopolli scandal. Insuportible. Fuhk 'em. That being said wouldn't shock me if Citeh choked it all away. Again
As much as I hate United, City screwing this up means that the Arsenal curse lives on. I've become quite attached to it.
Yeah I expect a last minute Newcastle win and a United romp. Seeing as how Brendan Rodgers was on MOTD calling Wayne Floppey the POY
All I can say is... you can't not look stupid if you want your manager out and you win the league. Which could still very much happen.
United fans in that forum are embarrassing crybabies. Well a lot of fans in here are embarrassing crybabies too. Did United show mental strength today?
