this discussion is like the dog chasing its own tail.

you have those who don't care if yepes steals caps from players who will eventually be the regular CB.

you have those who are more practical and realize that yepes is a part time club player and will not be in the picture come 2014. if he is, then our defense will have major problems

It's pretty clear that everyone focus a little too much on Yepes's flaws rather than see the bigger picture.

We play attacking football, so we are vulnurable to counter attacks, thus if Midfielders cough cough (Carlos Sanchez, Fredy Guarin, Aguilar, Bolivar and Co) don't run back of course their will be shot attempts to the arc.

That's also to mention Pablo Armero plays more as a Left winger than a Left Back

Yes we do, if you actually have football knowledge and see that our defensive line is 3/4 up or half field up. We just can't score.

firtst we worry about qualifying... then we will worry about who will replace him... so far... the guy doesn't have a replacement... simple!

LOL... yeah maybe the 4th time using this guy to qualify will work!!:p

Real talk, whats your guys' deal with Yepes? No on here is denying that he is a great veteran, and has been nothing but a great servant to our country, but enough is enough get off the fool's nuts already ffs.

    LMAO!!

So your gonna compare a world cup WINNER to a defender who has NEVER even managed to qualify to a wc? Great analogy. Lets compare arguably one of the best players in the history of the game to a center back who hasn't won shit(besides that 1 copa america, some bs with River & psg). Like I said, did Italy play Maldini in that WC they won a few years back?? Do you see Italy playing Nesta?

Talk all the shit you please, but I find it much more productive to find and mold a replacement than play a player who is about to hang up his kleats and has repeatedly FAILED at getting us to qualify.

We already took the first step in trying a new approach at qualifying by bringing in Pekerman. The next step is to build our future. How do you expect to do that? O hey lets qualify and then throw some inexperienced guy on the real world stage, the World Cup. Are you out of your mind??? Yepes IS NOT our future, GET REAL. Hes not gonna be able to play into his 40's or 50's.

How old our we? really? thats the best you can come up with to debate your rationale for playing yepes? What a joke.

"Big picture"?? Some people don't seem to grasp what that is because in my opinion a big picture is looking beyond what is in front of you. What we have in front of us is an aging Yepes who is past it. Just cause im not all over the fools nuts doesn't mean I don't respect or hold him in a high regard. I just see the future and its not bright if we're expecting to rely on such an old player. People seem to forget that club football is different from playing on a national team.

It's also rather premature to definitively say that we play "attacking" football when we've only had 1 game under our new coach. Go look at the stats & tell me we play attacking football. A 442 isnt exactly an attacking formation. Once we start playing with 3 defenders ill give you the benefit of the doubt. Until then, lets wait and see what Pekerman does.

I wanna agree with you and hadexx but I just can't when I see the complete opposite of whats being preached.

I think you are missing the point when I talked about Maradona. I am not comparing diego with yepez... i am arguing that all NTs do this... greatest and crapiest... If your best goalie is 50 yrs old... then they take the old guy... not the kid...

Testing grounds are out there all over the world... local leagues, etc... libertadores... blah blah....

Trinidad took old guys to the world cup... and the 3 old guys were the best players on the field... now don't tell me that i can't compare Trinidad to Colombia... they went to the WC and we haven't been there in a long time.

Cameroon did it with you know who!!!! TWICE!

mmmm... let me see... Italian players pretty much retire in the world cups... Zidane retired with a few of his boys in the WC...

    but anyways...

you guys argue my point, but never answer my question...

WHO IS THE GUY TO REPLACE YEPES????

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR ANSWER... (I also take incomplete arguments or criticism without alternatives as a whole bunch of fecal matter).

so... you guys can argue my point as much as you want... but if you guys don't have a solution... then... your argument is very incomplete!

This happens at work a lot... someone might critizise a procedure... so you listen with respect and ask what would they propose instead... if the answer is an "I DON'T KNOW!!!" then it would probably have been better for them to not say anything at all. If you give me a better option... then it would absolutely be taken into consideration and most likely executed.

besides... I think Pekerman thinks just like I do...

read the below... KEY WORDS... PRESENTE Y FUTURO... cosas que hable hace poco y casualmente... El Profe piensa de forma similar... MENOS MAL!!!!!

Respecto a los trabajos de las últimas semanas, Pekerman explicó que "el objetivo de los microciclos es trabajar con el presente y el futuro, ya que generan estímulos para el torneo local", respecto a la posibilidad de una convocatoria.

You really used a lot of words to say nothing.

"WHO IS THE GUY TO REPLACE YEPES????" Well as I have emphasized over and over again in this thread (and in others) we should probably just stick to what has worked recently... ...the lineup that played against Mexico.

    It is that simple.

The matches against Peru and Ecuador are not tomorrow. Perea should be fit by June. If not... ... it is up to Pekerman. Zapata may have to fill in since he is better on the right side than Aquivaldo is. We shall see.

Yepes is looking really old. On a simple clearance he goes down by himself on what looks like a minor injury.
Got back up again but he looked so clumsy on that play.

And Milan scores a 3rd to put the game on ice.

Looking at it objectively Yepes really did not have much to do and looked okay for the most part when he had to mark up & play D.

I still don't trust him playing a full 90 in Lima and Quito though.
Would be a bit risky fitness wise.

    lmao this guy...

I already gave my alternative a few pages back... maybe you should read more carefully brah.

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=25602132&postcount=540

Please refer to the last sentence in the 2nd paragraph. I also take incomplete arguments or whatever the hell lololol kthx ;)

Exactly!! People think we're hating on this fool just because. Pound for pound in my opinion, Mosquera beats Yepes any day... Maybe a few years ago it would've been a different story, but we already had a perfect example of how laggy Yepes is basically all the games hes played within the last year or so. Yeah he's got heart, and all that bs, but I'm simply worried about his stamina, endurance, speed and agility.

    Indeed.

Mosquera I can see play full 90 in those cities. Yepes can be a good bench option. An assistant to Pekerman if you will, along with being a late game sub.

But if I have to see him going up against the likes of Guerrero, Foquita, Pizarro for 90 minutes AND THEN have to play in Quito...
... I am going to have serious stomach problems in June. Just don't trust him.

For the 3rd consecutive game in a row yepes partakes in the 4-1 victory against Siena.

And yet a solid performance by the 37 year old

I watched the whole entire match.

"solid performance" is a bit exaggerated in my book. He was okay.

JPA... you are the only one that has given an ok option... I'll give you that.

Everyone else that criticizes but gives no options... I find that lame, when people provide destructive criticism vs constructive.

I like Mosquera, and I think he's a valuable option and replacement for Yepes. However despite recent games his form goes up and down very often. No complaints if he starts with Peckerman, but then again I much rather have Yepes in my personal Opinion.
