In which the Aztex travel to Houston to take on our "it's our first game too" rivals the Texas Dutch Lions, who apparently seem to feel they can claim the whole state as their own. Okay sure it's not until May but who else is planning to make the trip down for the double debut? Let's go AZTEX! (Been awhile since I could say that.)
I am definitely going down. I am planning on driving down Saturday afternoon and then coming back that night. Happy to take some folks. I think the most realistic approach is for us to carpool similar to what was done last year for the FC Dallas v. Houston friendly in CC. If we get 20 or so, then we could look at getting a bus. However, from experience, I know that you have to get more than 20 to make it financially feasible.
Does anyone know exactly where this game is at? Their web site doesn't exactly do a great job of saying where they play. It says "Woodforest Stadium" and "Texas Woodforest Stadium", but no map or address. I've been able to find a "Woodforest National Bank Stadium and Natatorium" in Shenandoah, TX. Can anyone confirm this is the place? (And what the hell is a natatorium?)
Yes its the Woodforest Bank stadium in Shenandoah, north of Houston. Wiki says a Natatorium is a facility that has a swimming pool, diving equipment etc. Who is still going to the game... not much said lately?
I will be there +1. There appears to be a BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in a shopping center right next to the stadium. Seems like an inviting place to grab a pint or two before the game.
Eberly's Army is looking at getting some van's to make the trip down to Houston for those who want to go. Rough, early plans right now (we're going to solidify in next 24 hours) would be to leave from The Lion & Rose (360 and Bee Caves) on Saturday, May 5th about 3:00 p.m. We'll provide food (provided by The Lion & Rose), beer (made by our own Brewmeister) and a game ticket all for $40/seat. We will reserve a van (holds 14) and if we have more who want to go, can add vans to accommodate others. The plan is to open this to anyone who wants to go, whether you're an Eberly's Army member or not. If you're interested, please email info@eberlysarmy.com so we can get a count of how many vans we need.
Ah just seen fa cup final same day so wont make the trip ! Bit off subject... but whats the best home attendance can hope for this season? I say about 1500
Here is an article about the Lions new coach. http://www.chron.com/business/press...ague-Coach-Maaskant-to-Join-Texas-3511645.php
The FA Cup Final kick off is at 11:00 a.m. local, so you can still do both. We'll be having a Watch Event at The Lion & Rose Pub, and then at 3:30, we'll head out from the same pub.
From the Texas Dutch Lions website: Maaskant recently coached the Wisla Krakow in Poland, where he won the Championship in 2011 qualifying for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and group stage of the Europa League. Before that, he was coach at Dutch Premier League clubs RBC Roosendaal, Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II and NAC Breda. With the Willem II team, he reached the Cup Final.
Nevermind, I read the report http://socceratx.com/2012/05/06/aztex-return-with-impressive-road-win-versus-texas-dutch-lions/
this was a great trip Eberly's Army did Austin proud chanting & cheering for whole 90mins of the game. i for one right now have a squeaky voice but it was worth it with a 4 nil win over them lions. can not wait for the home opener on May 19th at house park
It was a good thing for Texas Soccer to see you guys back in the stands as an Austin Team took the Field. Nice entrance which really took some of the TDL Fans by surprise. Looking forward to making a trip to Austin to check out one of your home games.
