Should be great but I'm not feeling any love for the cartoonish "Impact" in the stand. Of course that will hopefully hidden by fans every home game.

Guys, go easy on the posters talking about perceived/actual attendance.

Ed clearly opened that topic up for discussion in this thread this season. As long as the posters don't complain that the reported numbers are used in the math, they can talk about actual/perceived attendance as much as they want.

This is from the first post in the thread

They haven't ever properly marketed their team, right? Why would they start now?

If I understand the complaints from the NY fans, that is.

It's not saying too much to say that Soler/Backe and Chris Heck (business side top exec) have changed places. After the 0 and 2 start Backe particularly was on the hot seat. 3 and 0 with Henry leading the biggest goal scoring outburst seen in these parts since Chinaglia has more than stabilized the Soler/Backe side of the regime but attendance in the first two home games has now put the pressure on Heck. He has at least this season (and I hope next year too) but the heat is undoubtedly on.

The problem for us is that after two seasons of max numbers of prime Saturday night home games to open the Arena the league has hit us hard this year. We only have four of those Saturday night big attendance dates. Much of this has to do with getting our games on national TV with networks not willing to commit to prime time windows for MLS but it's hard to not at least consider if the full court press on NY2/F.cosmos is playing a role here.

We're doing radio spots on WFAN and ESPN 1050 and have a lot of good TV spots produced for the MSG game broadcasts. Does Heck have the dexterity/authorization/money to put these spots on other TV stations and roll out some additional marketing pieces particularly getting Henry out there in the public?

In the final analysis his long term future here may depend on it.

    Thanks Andy.

I was about to make the same point again for what the 1,000th time on this board.

The frustrating thing is that this point is made at the beginning of each thread. And yet some folks still feel compelled to point out how we know nothing about this subject and are eager to enlighten us with this "new" inside knowledge as to why these attendance numbers are wrong.

As you point out, if a person wants to drone on about their "correct numbers" go right ahead just not in this thread.

Because it always derails the thread. You've been here for 10 years and you're not aware of that?

    Why the attitude, anyway?

The distributed/sold ticket numbers we use in this thread clearly demonstrate that NY attendance is disappointing.

The stadium is fantastic and NY with Henry has a very good team. That combination along with the steady improvement in MLS quality of play and the atmosphere being generated by the supporters culture should be paying dividends in attendance to a greater degree.

Ed changed the policy this year to allow discussion of perceived attendance (see my previous post).

Maybe he needs to go back like last year and just remove all that talk altogether and have some one start a perceived/actual attendance thread again.

If there's a sport scene in the new Three Stooges movie they should use LaBrocca as an action stand in for Larry.

That's part of the original stadium. It's been there since 2008.

Yeah, not sure why Ed did that. I don't see the value it adds to this thread but clearly it can derail a thread. But Ed does the hard work and I appreciate his efforts. It's his call.

A little disappointed in the Montreal and Columbus numbers but nothing to get worked up about. Overall, solid numbers again for the week.

C'mon you know the story, Metro/Red Bull.

Don't know why folks can't celebrate the past and support the present and future.

In my time Generals/Cosmos/MetroStars/Red Bulls all our home town team over the years.

Forget the name if you can't deal with it, just support the team!

I am sorry for bringing up Percieved numbers in the beginning, I was just trying to show that it was just not Columbus who werent getting a lot of fans to watch the Red Bulls.

I love the fact that we can be disappointed with slightly over 23,000 attending a game! :)

I am too lazy to look it up, but five weeks into the season and we have three players all scoring more than 1 goal per game. I doubt MLS has had that happen very many times. And each of these players will be @ Red Bull Arena next week. Here's hoping that leads to larger than normal crowd.

I have a theory on why it's so difficult to for the Red Bulls to establish an identity in the New York sports fan community. Isn't it difficult to get any media attention when you're the 10th most popular team in town? Surely it's something like this order: Yankees, Giants, Jets, Mets, Rangers, Knicks, Devils, Nets, Islanders, and finally Red Bulls. If the typical evening news broadcast has maybe 6 minutes for sports, how often can you get around to news about team number 10? Or how far is it buried in the Sports section of the paper?? The odds against the Red Bulls are enormous.

But go to Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Salt Lake, or KC - the local MLS team is at worst the 3rd most popular franchise. If you lose interest in the Seahawks or Mariners, boom there's the Sounders. If the Jazz are a bummer to follow, voila... RSL's your team to follow next. In KC Sporting is the new hot team to follow. But in New York, there are plenty of other sport teams & stories to follow before a sports fan might even notice Red Bulls exist.

I think this is why Garber & Co are pushing for NY2. If they can get a stadium built on Manhattan, NY2 jumps much higher for Manhattanites to consider... and at least more attention would fall on Red Bulls too - especially if there are 3 NY/NJ derbies a year. I'm guess both media attention and attendance would head upward. Thoughts??

Yeah, this probably belongs in another thread...

That also explains why LA Galaxy gets completely ignored in the local media.

Do you have anything to back up the actuals? Or was this your perception from being at the match. If you are going to call it actuals provide a source, othwise make sure people know it is your perception. Also as noted since Actuals are not released by the league we use the numbers in the press release as the basis for our numbers.

It's not. However claiming to have actuals and not posting a verifiable source for them Twitter does not count, and then going hostile on someone that calls you or the OP on it is what is not appreciated. Keep it civil, be respectful and people will be willing to listen. If you can't handle that find another thread to rant in.

You guys pretty much said it all. There has not been much in the way of rational discussion. It appears as though the ban may need to be reinstated, I will give the NY guys a chance to post their source, but as I said some random twitter feed is not reliable, unless the source is the team itself.
