Don't know if the price increases were across the board, but from what I heard a replica jersey (which is probably the one item STHs are most likely to purchase) was priced $100 at the Bull Shop while at mlsgear.com you can buy one for $80 (and even cheaper than that at certain independent retailers). (Technically the 25 percent raise on $80 and the 20 percent discount on $100 are both $20, but it still reeks of shyster shenanigans).

I would laugh if this all wasn't so freaking sad and pathetic.

It's nice to see they haven't fixed one thing about the stadium experience. It's also nice to see that Heck continues to piss on his most loyal fans. These two things alone make me delighted I didn't re-up. He's clueless, and all metrics point this out. Another FO clown that needs launching.

    Bravo Austria. Bra-freaking-vo.

Side note : I didn't even include the disparity between 14 and 21 k. Either he papered like there was no tomorrow with freebies or he was telling the truth (although he didn't give full numbers) and he got a large number of businesses to buy those seasons tix and those business are going to do nothing with them but write them off. Either way, it is still a black eye. No wonder Garber wants an NYC2 team.

I'm still gonna go with the word "screwed". Heck screwed (and continues to screw) the fans.

I'll have to check out the shop at the Arena for myself, but look at the Red Bull website shop:

    http://www.mlsgear.com/shop-by-mls-team-new-york-red-bulls-player-jerseys.html

Compared to a major online shop:

    http://www.mlsgear.com/shop-by-mls-team-new-york-red-bulls-player-jerseys.html

The Red Bulls marked up their jerseys 25% from last year while World Soccer Shop didn't.

THAT does not look good at all.

"These guys really need a VP of common sense when they make bigtime decisions on stuff like re-zoning and increasing ticket prices."

I couldn't agree more, last night I was telling my brother RBNY needs somebody to just sit in the meetings and just say "yeh...but what about" after ever stupid idea they come up with.
    (they do have meetings... right?)

    Maybe they don't.

Bunch of suits in an office who don't have the perspective on an MLS fan = bad idea.

I understand it's a business and they need to do the best they can to make a buck, but come on man...

Maybe all the people were waiting in line to get into the Bull Shop. Just joking.

When I arrived at 3:30 there were at least 75 people on line to get into the shop. There were very few people at any of the merchandise kiosks around the stadium but you can't use your card for a discount at any of them. I had the money on my cards but it only worked at one vending station. I shouldn't be to hard on them since they have only had 3 years to sort this out.

Yeah, people give RBNY some time to work out the kinks. If you were willing to just pay a little more out of your pocket, (say 52%) you would have access to the new and improved Red Bull Corner Pub. The Pub was so good that it made me completely forget what it looked liked the last three seasons - because I can only remember as it was yesterday.

My name is Soccerski. I am running for RBNY, VP of Common Sense and Sarcasm, and I approve this message.

I didn't go. One of the consequences of Heck driving out season ticket holders - we can pick and choose what games we feel like going to.

According to the Taco Truck's twitter feed, they're not back this year.

So they're not back because Heck told them to go away, or they're not back because Heck is driving fans away from the Arena?

I have a feeling Heck wanted that revenue inside the stadium.

Gotta wonder how that's (not) working out for him... ;)

I only hit up the first game, and sat in the nosebleeds. He ain't getting anything close to what he woulda got from me.

Of course, by their logic, when they make less this year, they'll increase prices again next year, driving out even more fans!

Yeah, I would guess that it was RBNY's doing, since The Taco Truck now has a partnership with Viking Army SC: http://vikingarmy.com/2012/03/07/our-newest-partner-the-taco-truck/

I don't know for sure, but I'd be surprised if they viewed it as a waste of time and then did that.

The reason the Taco Truck isn't there anymore is because Chris Heck charged them $100K this season instead of the $30K they were charged last year. Taco Truck is a small business and said no thanks.

In fact our brilliant Mr.Heck has successfully driven off a lot of the team's small business partners this year by increasing the sponsor prices.

Awesome. Well done, let's get rid of all the food options near the stadium that you possibly can.

I am reading all these posts and it is quite disturbing. Are RBNY trying to run off anyone and everyone by jacking up the prices on everything? This blatantly violates Marketing 101. How is that going to work if no one is coming because of price gouging? That blows for NYC. When I lived in Brooklyn, I was trying to get latched onto the MetroStars and just felt like they didn't give a shit. I am trying to figure out how alienating the fan base and local corporate base is going to make RBNY a viable entertainment product.

We all are. This has been the history of the MetroStars/Red Bulls since inception (more the Red Bulls).

I am speaking from my MetroStars experience, which sucked. I'd figure RBNY would blow away that amateur experience that the MetroStars had. Well, I guess some things don't change when it comes to alienating fans.

Where did you get this information? Not that I don't believe you, I just want to know your source so I don't go running my mouth about all the terrible decisions RBNY has made.

They are running the team like it already has a large following. Almost like an NBA team. It doesn't have a large following and this isn't the NBA.

Or they figure that they got Thierry Henry and people will come as well as willingly get nickeled and dimed in the process. Nickeling and diming is fine as long as you make the customer feel it was worth the while, like Disney World. Disney goes above and beyond making the experience great and making mad loot in the process. Pissing off the customer by jacking up the prices and removing unique experiences like the taco truck and providing nothing in return......just won't cut it.

This is a great tidbit (if true).

The Red Bulls weren't losing money on this deal last year since these folks had no plans to wait forever on line and miss parts of the game. For 2012, those fans won't be in line for their overpriced food and beverages AND they've lost their $30K.
