From what I saw, the transition from midfield to forwards is where things became jammed up for Houston. They were possessing well for large parts of the game. Scott marking Davis did not help the attack either. (Scott is a mediocre defender but has an uncanny ability to mark good players into invisibility if that is his only job.) I think Seattle fans were satisfied with the result not because they did particularly well -- it was a pretty ugly win -- but because they managed the result without the Rosales/Johansson right-side attack they tend to lean on.
I will respectfully disagree and urge you to go back and find SEA v HOU in 2011 and watch it again. Though it was a better result for the Dynamo in 2011, the 2012 Dynamo played much much better. Tally Hall had to stand on his head in 2011. In 2012 we had long spells of territorial and possession advantage. Hey folks -- the Dynamo are on the road. Can someone please calculate the average goals scored per game for road teams in MLS? Its low. Real low. Everyone relax. No need to start panicking unless/until home results go poorly.
Such a polite posting, I have to take your word. I wasn't thinking specif of the 2011 Sounders vs Dynamo game when I wrote "vintage 2011". I was thinking of those May/June/July 2011 games when I sat at the Robertson or in front of my TV watching the Dynamo possess the ball for a while, sometimes even dominate the game, and then make a defensive mistake, and the opposite team would score on us. Hope you don't make me research the posts finding specific games! Remember the early summer 2011, when people used to propose players like Dixon to be given more chances? Our forwards weren't getting the work done. Yeah, yeah, a lot of things have changed since. We have Camargo now, and Cameron is back to his better position. I don't think we should press the panic button because we lost one game. I do think we should be concerned that our forwards are not scoring. OK, keep losing road games, but show me that we can score in the run of play, that we can draw fouls or penalty shots, that our mids and forwards are connecting. Show me that we have the right pieces, they just need more time. In the meantime, I'd rather interrupt the Ching/Bruin do nothing duo. PS Watching a U23 game right now... won't comment because this thread doesn't have an (R) for that game...
I agree with a lot you say. And I see your point about the similar games in the summer of 11. For me, I have always been frustrated by Dynamo finishing but I have learned to accept it. The team knows how to win without having great finishing. They have never finished well in my view. The team is playing better now than a year ago.
We are a better team than a year ago: We have Camargo No Freeman Cameron back to where he belongs And even though I don't think as highly of him as other people do, Moffat is an improvement More mature Hall and -arguably- Ashe But the rest of the teams are also getting better! The forward (or mid/forward) scoring situation is really laughable, and I wish we had worked on a long-term solution rather than the Carlo Costly rent-a-diva for a few months. Is Bruin that long-term solution? Ching ain't gonna get younger, or faster. PS I thought Clark was playing better last year. is it my uneducated imagination?
Tweet from Ortiz: Jose de Jesus Ortiz @OrtizKicks MLS will announce Moffat suspension for tackle on Alonzo. Saw tackle, and MLS seems on a witch hunt. Soccer is a contact sport isn't it?
I cannot find any mention of this tackle in game recaps or on the highlights. I see that Moffat got a yellow card in the 35th minute. Was that for the tackle in question?
no, it isn't. well it is in England & Scotland. IIRC. yeah, it was nasty. a 'plancha' like we say in Spanish (studs up, in English). 'plancha' means iron (like what you use for your clothes) because the lead foot is up and goes straight into an opponenets leg like an iron would. if the leg is above the ball its an automatic red. that's exaclty what happened last night in the TFC - Santos game. that has to be the minute, because it was definitely a cardable offense.
I am opposed to these kind of reviews that result in additional penalties after the game is over. In my opinion, once a game is over - it's over. The ref's decision or non-decision is final. Does MLS review all games or do they only review a game based on a complaint. And how far should that review go. Shall we allow some obvious fouls such as:
This is tough for me because I'm actually in favor of infractions that are reviewed after the game is over. In that way it does not interrupt the flow of the game and does not change the overall result, but cards can be issued (or overturned, although that is extremely rare). I do agree with you that I'd like to see the official policy on this and whether all cards are automatically reviewed or if there has to be a complaint to start the process. I would absolutely like to see this policy put in place for diving and have some yellows issued retroactively. I think the usual suspects would pay attention very quickly and card accumulation would change their diving ways. I'm not singling out Seattle in this case because diving is a problem that goes beyond any one team. Mostly I just want to see the tackle and judge for myself. Here's Moffat's tackle: http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcente...?videoID=179949
During the match and watching the replay I actually didn't think the tackle was that bad. Moffat wasn't coming in high, he got all ball and his foot skipped up over the ball and he clipped the attacker low on the shinguard. Being from Seattle, this naturally means that Alonso went down clutching his leg just below the knee.
i think you're right. unfortunately, intent does not figure into this decision. swings and misses are cardable offenses too. hey the good news, if Moffatt is suspended: SOTO TIME!!!* *c'mon Dom!
I'm glad somebody else caught this as well. MLS is a freaking joke if they suspend him for that tackle. His studs were exposed, even before his foot bounced off the ball, but he wasn't coming in high... so that was a yellow card tackle. He got a yellow card. To go back and suspend him for a game is absolutely ridiculous. Next we'll have a guy go shoulder to shoulder with someone from Chicago, bounce off, and bang heads with another Fire player. 10 game suspension for headbutting! I love my team, but it's getting harder and harder every year to stomach those idiots in the league office.
What's the o/u of having first mls game with fans suspended from attending the match to happen to us? A couple smoke bombs, screaming of p*****to, streamers affecting run of play, and a streaker or two at the bbva. Lol. The league is out to get us, right
Your statement about swings and misses contradicts your statement about intent. If swings and misses are cardable then intent does figure into the decision.
You mean to tell me a tough-looking guy like you watches HIMYM, but doesn't watch a show about gun trafficking that has a dude you resemble? Don't make me buy you Sons of Anarchy season 1! I used to watch Andy Milonakis and am a Kevin Smith fan, because we're all awkward looking fat dudes.
hate you guys! don - i was referring to swings and misses on the ball like occurred here not an opponent's leg. clumsiness, if you will. which i agree that intent should factor in reviews and there shouldn't have been a further suspension IMO because i don't see intent just hard play and clumsiness. although i wouldn't have cried foul if the red would of gave at red at game speed, because it would have been difficult to see and let's be honest in some cases the ref has to judge on what he thought he saw.
