I noticed this article about a serious injury that occurred near the end of last season in May. As you mentioned, he doesn't seem to be on the roster anymore, but perhaps he is still out due to the injury. http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga2/news/2008/index.php?f=126330.php Gibson diagnosed with serious eye injury Rot Weiss Ahlen's Grover Gibson had to leave the pitch with a nasty injury to the area of his eye just ten minutes into the game at Ingolstadt on Sunday. The 31-year-old midfielder from the US was taken to a Munich clinic and diagnosed with a fractured eye socket. Operation in Munich He was subsequently kept in the hospital pending an operation.
He is no longer with Ahlen and is looking for a club. Transfermarket This is a much better site to use.
It seems the reason he did not relocate during the last transfer window is that he is still having problems with the injured eye. There may be more surgery in the near future. http://rwahlenfans.de/Joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1788&Itemid=1
Didn't Brian McBride have a fractured eye socket at one point? Back in the days when [throat clearing noise] used to call him McFragile?
Stuart Holden had one. Of course, it didn't happen on the field... http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Sky-News-Archive/Article/200806413315084
According to the comments to this article, the Ahlen fans would welcome him back. Seems the team has tanked, and they think he could really help right the ship.
Didn't Berhalter fracture the eye socket, too? And then have some sort of odd swelling problem w/ it on a trans-Atlantic flight?
Oh hell, I had forgotten that one. Ick. I had visions of his eyeball getting sucked into his ear canal.
I search for info on him at least once a week, and have yet to find him listed on a roster or in a news story. Transfermarkt lists status as unknown.
I never thought this thread would be resurrected, and I guess it won't be for long, but Grover Gibson has come out of retirement to join Fredricksburg Hotspur as a player and assistant coach.
Long article about Gibson's injury, layoff, and new position: http://www2.insidenova.com/sports/2012/mar/28/grover-gibson-returning-soccer-field-ar-1802090/
So Gibson's injury didn't effect his "eye" for talent. (See what I did there. Did ya, did ya?!?!) Using a team made up almost exclusive of current college players in Virginia and/or from Richmond, Sunday night Gibson led RVA FC to an undefeated season and the championship of the NPSL. one of two national amateur leagues sanctioned by the USSF as 4th division. Here's an article in the Richmond paper on the championship game with a couple of quotes from Gibson. http://www.timesdispatch.com/sports...cle_a2ec0209-06c5-58ba-b0f1-c361b83c33f5.html
