Which MLS teams have General Admission Supporters Section? Which MLS teams have Assigned Seating Supporters Section? Which is better for atmosphere?
I think all tickets in the PPL supporters section are assigned seating. Not that you have to sit in your exact seat, but no general admission. My understanding is that since these are the cheapest seats, the team does not want a bunch of unrestrained drunks throwing stuff on the field, etc.
Both Member's Stand/Cauldron and the South Stand is GA. Splinter groups are starting to pop up all over the south stand and are really getting into the games.
The Terraces are GA at the Dick. Class VI is technically assigned seating, but outside of the supporters that have the front row seats nobody really seems to care so we treat it as somewhat GA anyway.
In LA ACB is general admission and LARS is "de facto" general admission, meaning that if you have a ticket anywhere in 137 or 138 it's technically assigned seating but everyone who sits there treats those sections as GA. In ACB's case sections 121 and 122 are designated as ACB Supporter seating but any GA ticket gets you in.
Impact is GA in 132 at Saputo (Ultras), while 131 (supporters spillover) officially has reserved seating.
Sounders have a mix - ECS is concentrated in 121, 122, and 123, where the lower halves are GA and the upper halves are assigned seating. Gorilla FC and NEF are both in assigned-seating sections, though they're much smaller. GA sections have a built-in incentive to get in well ahead of kickoff, which is useful for pre-match choreos. Only bummer is the douchenozzle race for the first row that occasionally puts, let's say, unrepresentative or less-than-attentive supporters in the front of the crowd. (This doesn't seem to have been as much of a problem since 2010 as the ECS STH population in GA has firmed up.)
All 4 groups in DC are GA, tho SE still have some assigned parts. It makes enormous difference actually.
I was hanging out with a Timbers Army member during a pregame tailgate last year who mentioned something along these lines. Apparently, there had been some grumbles among the old guard regarding Johnny-come-latelys arriving early and claiming prime real estate.
Heh. This surprises me as it seems to be a point of pride among TA members about how early they show up before games and how long they stay after games...
Assigned seating in the River End fits with and encourages the standard operating procedure of many Philadelphia sports fans -- tailgating for as long as possible. The stands won't usually get completely full until just before the national anthem.
I have to find it again but there's a great picture of The North End of Home Depot Center full of ACB and Dynamo supporters for the Cup Final. It pouring rain, about 3 hours before the game starts and the rest of the stadium is empty. The joys of GA!

but as you undoubtedly know, the seat holder who sold that ticket on stub hub had his season ticket taken away.
In the past the Dynamo supporter sections have been GA. People received a ticket with a section and seat number on it but those were ignored. Pretty much anyone could walk into the supporter sections and claim a spot, you didn't even have to a ticket to those sections. In the new stadium the 100 level supporter section will be GA but it is sold out with season tickets and people will have to have a ticket in that section to get in. We don't know yet if the tickets will have specific seats printed on them or not. There is an overflow supporter area in the 200s where some people have already bought season tickets. No idea if that will be GA. It is still up in the air how things will work up there.
