Who we got that maybe be ready to step up to the first team next year??? That you are excited about ? and why? How good are they and how good do you think they can become? This is why I think Wenger always stresses "quality" over "quantity" in the transfer market. as it is, the competition for places is going to be fierce (hopefully). It's good to be a Gooner!
I cant honestly see anyone stepping up next season and making an impact in the first team. The jury is still out on a lot of our reserves. Maybe the season after look for Gnabry to light it up. Thats just my opinion, I hope im wrong.
sorry for the question but i'm assuming you've seen them more than i have so . . . you don't feel like afobe, miyaichi or bartley will not be ready for contributions yet? while he's done well, i would like to see miyaichi spend another season on loan (preferably with coyle again) since 1) i don't think he's ready to be a full-time contributor and 2) at most he'll be a reserve/cup bit parts and he would benefit so much more from playing first team. i think aneke showed on his first loan that he's not ready yet either.
I think all could do a decent job for the team. I think unfortunately that Bartley will probably be sold; not enough CB spots in the first team for him and he's not going back to the reserves. Afobe is also promising. I expect Miyaichi to be a part of the first team next year. However, he isn't per se part of the youth policy, as he didn't go through the academy or anything. Im guessing Aneke and Ozyakup are the closest to the first team outside of the players already mentioned.
I dont think its beneficial to any one by keeping the likes of Afobe in the reserves or on the bench. He was unlucky to have a bad injury this season which has stalled his progress in pursuit of first team football. He needs at least a full season out on loan because imo he isnt up to the level to contribute to the first team yet. Same goes fo Miyaichi, id prefer to see him start every week for a season or two to develop as a player and gain the experience required. If he was at a Wilshere or Chamberlain level then id be all for it, he has a lot of competition atm. When Benayoun goes Podolski fills his spot in the squad. Yeannaris isnt as good as Jenkinson yet. Carl has a huge advantage physically for the Premiership. Its fringe players like Coquelin and Jenkinson that I expect to make more of an impact for longer next season as opposed to a break out year from one of the reserves. Eisfeld looks to have been bought to stack out the reserves and Ozyakup hasnt gotten many chances which is worrying. We have a lot of interesting guys like Aneke, Afobe, Ebicilio and Gnabry. They have a lot to do to make it to top flight football though.
Gnabry is only 16, so he has a little time on his side. I've read some great things from some of the U18 & Reserve match reports, though. I'd expect Ryo to be ready to step into the side next season, but he's really the only one I see any significant contributions from. I'd love to see Ignasi Miquel get some more time. I think he's got the qualities to be a good one, and feel like he's probably passed Bartley in the pecking order. What about Damian Martinez? Thought I read something a while ago about the coaching staff being thoroughly impressed with him. Maybe a loan or some league cup matches in the near future?
No mention of Kyle Bartley ? Heard he's been good for Rangers, though honestly haven't followed a lot to form or make an opinion ..
I see more chances for Coq, Miquel, Miyachi and Yennaris next season. I consider Ox as a regular now and he will continue to get time. Jenkinson will start to feature more because Sagna the best defender in EPL will turn 30. If RvP leaves then Campbell might be on the first team, if not, another year out on loan. Sadly, Bartley, Lansbury, and Ozyakup are not considered "super quality". I personally would love to see all of them in action in cup games. Sadly, Galindo and Wellington are probably done too. Then we have Aneke, Afobe, Eisfeld, Doral, Angha, Ansah, and Harjovic. They are all rated highly but at least 2-3 seasons away from anything useful.
I can't see anyone breaking into the team as a CB - we already roll five deep (Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Djourou, and he who should never play for Arsenal again), and prospects need playing time to be good. This is largely a systemic issue: defenders have to learn in part by making mistakes, and top teams can't afford those kinds of mistakes at the back. That's why we haven't developed a good, homegrown CB in a long time. It's different at fullback, but even then, we haven't developed a good RB. It's a lot easier to take risks with attackers - the margin for error is greater.
Nice summary of things. Disagree with a few with Don Vito and Lansbury being the case. With Almunia looking like he is going to leave, I would say Vito would be the third choice unless Fabianski decides he wants to leave also(don't see that happening unless he wants to push himself and try to take the starting Poland job away from WS13/open up a spot for a home grown player or another Non HG player). Lansbury might fit into the Ray Paurlor role. Maybe a run of a few games before the verdictis made? Pedro Botelho is one I would like to see get a preseason with the squad before being shipped out. As far as I know he has a Spanish passport by now. Otherwise, get him off the books.
i hope we see miyachi here next year to fill oput the side and arshavin gone! looking forward to more coq (pause) and jenkinson maybe we see more yennaris and aneke/afobe in the carling cup?
Botelho began the season as a starter at Rayo, but has had some behavioral problems & off-field issues. I don't really ever seeing him fitting in at Arsenal.
Daniel Boateng impressed me in the Youth Cup. Stood out the most amoungst Frimpong, Ozyakup, Deacon, Ebicilio.
i don't either. i brought up those three because, as i understand it, they are the three closest to making first team appearances/contributions. having lost the bulk of this year to injuries, it'd probably be most beneficial for afobe to spend next year in the championship. i think miyaichi is close but, if he stays, he'll end up in that 15 minutes every other game thing which i don't think benefits him (or us, in the long term). another year with coyle (like from the season start) would be terrific in my opinion. do you rate bartley? i like jenkinson. i don't think he'll ever be offensively prolific but, i think, he has potential defensively. and our offense has generally generated more offense out of the left fullback position than the right. i wonder if he'll ever become an aerial threat (skill-wise) since he has the physique for it. it's weird. it doesn't feel like wenger rates coquelin. certainly not as well as he rates frimpong. i'm confused by this one. supposedly, he renewed because he was promised that he would be closer to the first team than he actually is. and, if he isn't (but is more fringe), i don't really see a reason to keep him in the reserve instead of sending him out, say, to the championship. i've read various pieces that says wenger rates lansbury but it doesn't seem like he does. like AT3, i think he could be a valuable multiple position midfielder off the bench. i hope he gets a real chance to stick around.
True, but what is there to lose by having him in for preseason training camp before deciding if he is going to get cut.
What is the basis of this statement on Coq? Everything seems to indicate Coq is higher on the pecking order and also development and has just signed a new long term deal. Lansbury is not rated by anybody important at AFC. Sad but true. Finally, Bartley should at least get a loan deal to an EPL club.
Jenkinson's delivery is excellent. He could be the best right sided attacking fullback in England someday. And, btw, Arsenal's attack is heavily tilted to the right side precisely because of the contributions of a certain Mr. Sagna. What makes you say that?
