Ummmm... is this an MB thing again? Because if so, he didn't even sign for BMG until a year later. If not, then who?

doh! Still, was he starting yet? And I thought that turned out to be a myth. My understanding was that Subotic turned down a U20 call-up?

Good read about the player rankings for the game last night. Great game last night. Corona is going to do big things for the US in the near future.

It's been spun as such since then, particularly by Rongen.

But this comment from Subotic in 2008 sure does indicate otherwise:

"Well, Rongen certainly said some discouraging and false things about me. Never in my life have I heard that a high level coach publicly criticizes a player. Professional coaches do that one-on-one with the player. I find this disappointing, because a few months later after Rongen said I was not good enough for the U-20s, I played a very good season and started getting calls from various countries [U.S. included] for the full men's team. I still don't know what he saw in the other players, and what he didn't see in me."

The Subotic-Rongen affair has been filled with so many Big Soccer myths and inaccuracies that reality was out the window a long time ago.

Anybody who feels the need to comment on that situation should read the above article.

Neven WAS on that team, but was pulled due to an injury.

This is a major threadjack on my part.

I think I have fallen for the Big Soccer myths and inaccuracies, but I just cant take anything Andrea Canales writes seriously, ever. When every other reporter notes a riff and Canales is the only one with "an interview" that says otherwise, I dont trust it.

Canales is the most independent reporter.

None of the preparation games for the Mexican U23 team have been televised except for the game against the US so I'm not sure how you've "seen" them.

Don't want to derail the thread but of the two guys Corona was battling with for a spot on the U23 team, one singlehandedly won Pumas UNAM a championship and the other is Cruz Azul's top prospect and has already been called up to the senior NT.

He may look more composed in the US midfield but that didn't help him stand out when he was being looked at by Mexico. He was in camp for almost two weeks before being included in the squad that faced Chile U25s twice in a span of a few days.

I was at this game (my 2nd USMNT game and my first u-23 game) it was a good convincing win that our u-23 boys needed

some thoughts : that red card was desevered you cant hit your back arm into another players face like that Cuban did.... awful.

Corina is a good player and is my Man of the match ... he was simply the best man we had out there last night. hat trick was well desevred

to close- our fans did a great job singing and chanting Great job by everyone cheering on our boys.

I'll probably get burned alive for saying this but here goes. On Corona, I've seen this many times on BS (Agudelo when he got his first cap, Bunbury when he got his first cap, Ream with his start and the list goes on). A guy has a good game and a bunch of folks come out and talk up the player, claim he's the best player on the team, rant and rave about how amazing and "natural" his performance was. Then he'll go out and have an off game and the same people will be back saying how they want him benched. He doesn't deserve to be in the line up compared to so and so. What was the manager thinking playing him there when he doesn't do this. On BS we tend to overreact. Let's have some perspective. We just beat a 10 man under-skilled Cuba team. Good work for us but like some level headed people have said, there's a lot of work to be done. This game really proved nothing on behalf of Corona or anyone else. He had a good game, but that's about it. It was only one game.

The same thing happened when they beat Mexico u23. The number of Barcelona references was nauseating. They beat a good team and did it in style but we don't have to compare them to one of the greatest teams and programs of all time. Let's just enjoy the moment and take it for what it is. The US team moving in the right direction.

I love BS and all the ranging opinions this site has and it provides amazing information on players and teams that most people don't get a chance to see but when you go threw 30 pages of hype about a player and then go threw 30 pages of hate for that same player from the same people it really gets old.

Apologies for the random rant and rage.

very true, but that kind of thing happens in any online message board out there. People tend to overblow just about everything. And you are right, it was a 10 man cuban squad that frankly was pretty terrible. Corona did a good job finishing, and passed well against a defense that really didn't put any real pressure on the ball all game. But i do feel optimistic of where we are at though

No burning here. I agree whole heartedly. While we should all praise the performance and execution we also need to put it in perspective. True Talent isn't short term its the ability to deliver quality over and over and over. All pro players have played like Iniesta...............
for 10 minutes, 45 minutes, a game, 2 games. But the reason of his World class ability is to deliver game after game, after season for a 10 yr career. That's quality.
Always be wary of the next game.

What was the best part of the USA vs Cuba?......we had a chance to practice our game tactics and get our timing right for the games to follow.
