Really unlucky on that Alves yellow card for handball. Call a penalty if you need to there but no need for a card, I mean a deflected ball to your hand?

I just checked UncleSox's updated stats as of today which show Messi with 54 official competition goals, eclipsing last year's 53.

CR looks like 42: 32 in Liga (vs. 34 for Messi now), 6 in CL (vs. 12 for Messi), 3 in CdR (vs. just 2 for Messi), 1 in Spanish Super Cup (vs. 3 for Messi), plus Messi scored in Club World Championships (2) and European Super Cup (1).

Ha, ha, CR has scored one more goal than Messi in the Copa Del Rey, therefore proving he is the better player. :D

There really are not enough superlatives for Messi, someone is going to have to invent some new ones.

Fortunately Lionel has one more game left to play in the CdR so he might just be able to wrest that head to head scoring crown from CR too! Course Messi will need to score 6 to overtake Pablo Infante's (of Mirendes) 7 CdR goals, Llorente with 5 only needs 3 to overtake him; Cesc with 3 needs 5.

From what I can find online at least 11 of CR's goals have been PKs this season, versus only 4 for Messi. SO if you back out the PKs the gap is truly huge.

That said both are nothing short of amazing as this article explains (written before yesterday's hat trick): Real Madrid's Ronaldo has scored 32 goals in 26 La Liga matches this season, one more than Barcelona's Messi in the same number of games. Throw in their performances across all competitions—Champions League, Spanish Cup, Spanish SuperCup, European SuperCup and FIFA Club World Cup—and Ronaldo has 42 goals in 39 appearances while Messi has 51 scores in 44 matches. Both could theoretically play another 17 games this season, suggesting they're on pace to end up with 60 and 71 goals, respectively.

^^Ronaldo is amazing, he truly is. And I would not hate on him as much as I do if people would stop saying he is the best, cause that is so disrespectful to one of the best players in the history of the game, Lionel Messi. 2nd best, yep sure you are right, great player. 1st? you have to either be blind, female, portuguese, madridista or manchester united fan to believe that. zahzah and mysterious seem to be many of those combined.

Messi is 24, cr is 27. Messi is the top scorer in CL every year, toughest comp out there. Scores most our important goals, bags more assists than anyone on our team, scores all kinda insane goals. Nearly every pro and former player, coach considers Messi the greatest and one of the best in history, but these people know nothing apparently, Mysterious is the one that knows much more than those guys.

They even are trying to claim in the madrid forums that Messi only scores lobs and chips. lmao. as if those are easier than tapping it into the corner or scoring from a penalty. I remember the chip vs Madrid where cannavaro hits the post with his leg, maybe they are still mad. :D

Just wanted to post quickly since I only watched the match today....congratulations to Messi on becoming the all-time leading scoring for Barcelona. Hat-trick time. He keeps on chipping the keepers doesn't he? I thought Cuenca and Xavi played extremely well, Cuenca obviously with his crosses and nothing needs to be said about Xavi. How many times has Alves assisted a Messi goal? I thought Alves played well too, except for his two penalties given away. I still think the first one shouldn't have been called, but the second one looked like he stuck his arm out. Maybe others see it differently, or the other way around, but definitely should have been one penalty against us. By the way, I don't understand how the kick out against Alexis wasn't called.

Anyways, great first goal. Three points and we keep on moving.
