God I wish the Fire were playing today. What can you do? I guess we'll have to settle for every other team in the league. MON-VAN and COL-CLB kick off in a few hours. MLS Live is free this weekend and I will be at the LA-RSL game. Lots of soccer today.

Meanwhile, ONE WEEK TO GO! :D

I always enjoy the opening games anyway, so I'm not too upset about having to wait a week to see the Fire.

I'd kind of like to see Montreal score a goal today (and still lose) just so they don't have that added necessity of needing to score their first MLS goal next week when we play them.

RSL-LA should be a good one later, and I'm curious to see how DC looks.

Well DC is awful, here I thought they would compete with us this year but NO WAY. Ben Olsen cannot coach, they kind of looked like the Fire under the Hammer, but without a Blanco.

  4. Yeah, it sucks to be on the sideline this week. Montreal has everything to play for next week. Their center back Ferrari gifted both Van. goals. Once again, the league sets it up for the newby. They get a game in while we wait til next week. Most importantly they get to play the Fire, everyone's favorite guest for their first home match.

  5. Yeah, DC was a big ball of suck, but the ex-whizzers didn't do much but make a play at the end.

KC did what they did last year, capitalize on a bad Eastern conf team.

Montreal didn't look very good. I'll be expecting a win. The East looks pretty week again, so that's good. LA and RSL both look pretty decent.

KC looked light years ahead of DC.
Vancouver looked better than Montreal, but neither looked good.

The Galaxy defense looked lost again (as they did in Toronto) without Omar Gonzalez. Bruce better hope that they just need time to build chemistry or else they will suddenly have a major vulnerability.

LA's defense is in trouble without Gonzalez. Kansas City looked about as good against DC as we did in that preseason game. DC's big problem is the midfield. They have some skilled players there in Pontius, Najar, and Dero (if you count him as a mid), but they can't maintain possession of the ball.

Vancouver looked good going forward, but kind of chaotic at the back. Nyassi should have had at least 1 goal and Mapp was given a great look from the top of the box. We should beat Montreal next week, but it being their opener in front of a huge crowd waiting for their first MLS goal, it'll be a dangerous game.

Columbus was terrible. No big surprise there after seeing them in preseason.

Yes, LA is missing that big physical presence Omar brings to the plate. Boyens is just not at this level and they're susceptible to set pieces.

I put Montreal's performance as very below average myself. My only fear(s) when we play them on the 17th is:

    - The Crowd (12th probably more like the 13th man)
    - We usually give expansion teams their first win.
    - Crappy field turf. :mad::mad:

Montreal looks like it will have a hard time scoring this year.

Look at the East standings, everyone but KC lost. I have no idea how Chivas can manage to win a game, but maybe we get lucky and Houston goes down. I think Portland beating Philly is a given, it's possible only 1 Eastern Conf team has winning record afte rthe first week, which would be a nice start for us.

Nice start if we win next week. All of the east-west matchups this weekend have been hosted by the western conference team, which is going to skew the conference standings a little.

I'm watching Philly at Portland right now. The Portland crowd is awesome. Really amazing what some of these new franchises have done in terms of building a fanbase and a crowd.

Jesus that Timbers environment is a something! I wish we had something that even comes close to this, looks like a ton of fun.

I remember watching Toronto FC's first goal ever (Against us) and saying wow thats something ive never seen before in an MLS game, when they started throwing all the plastic seat covers onto the field and how loud that crowd got.

But, that Timbers crowd was amazing, I honestly thought I was watching a premier league match with how loud and vocal that fan-base was.

Chicago and NY for whatever reason dont have anything that even comes close to this... NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Playoffs 2008 & 2009, we had an incredible atmosphere and sold out stadium. if we want that atmosphere we have to start selling out games.

Back to the thread, Philly is awful, another team we should easily climb above this year,

What EPL games are YOU watching? because, IMHO most MLS games have more of this mythical 'atmosphere' everybody yammers on about when talking EPL.
