Probably from a reliable source such as Mohamed el Fayed.

This beats even Chris Bergin and his minions in the level of ridiculousness.

And he was good enough to win the bronze ball, hence my point that you can't simply look at one World Cup as the best measure of how much a player is worth, which is what you seem to be implying.

Now don't make me bring up your suggested retail price for Clint Mathis. ;)

Why would he want to go to Man Yoo? He's at an age where he doesn't need to be sitting on the bench somewhere, which he would do in Manchester. Villa would be a much better move for him, since he would probably start there.

Man, you Quakes and MLS fans get really testy when people speculate about the future of your players, huh? Don't worry about it, as far as I know, nobody posting on this message board has the power to make any of these deals, ok? :)

Nah he'd play with them. Maybe not be an automatic starter right away but he'd get his share of starts. Guys who played substantially for ManUtd this year like Ronaldo and Fletcher are no better players than he is right now and he's capable of playing whatever position they play.

It's best for Donovan to still be starting for the San Jose Earthquakes when the team's SSS opens in 2006/2007 in either San Jose or Santa Clara, much like Barry Bonds was still with the Giants when Pacific Bell Park opened in 2000. :)

    GO EARTHQUAKES!!!

Yeah. Do YOU know what I'm talking about? :D

Seriously, the word "This" in my post didn't refer to your specific post, but this thread and the fact that it has been open for so long. Since you had the words "reliable sources", I had to put the obligatory Chris Bergin reference, and hence quoting your post.

Isn't written medium sometimes so much tedious compared with verbal?

    Re: donovan to england

Apparnetly you were directing a question at me but your attempt to quote didn't work.

    So I'll answer: which facts?

I clearly labeled it as speculation. But "facts" mentioned by me are accurate. They are:

    1. Donovan was linked to Celtic as early as 2002 in one of the Brit tabloids--The Daily Mirror I beleive. O'Niel was mentioned as interested in him again last year.

    2. Walker did work out with Celtic

    3. Celtic fans would react warmly to his Irish last name. If I need to explain that, then you don't know enough about Glasgow Celtic.

I would rather LD stay a Quake until the day he retires. But that is unlikely. Meanwhile, I don't understand slamming people for some reasoned and reasonable speculation. We're fans. It is what we do. If you don't enjoy that, avoid threads that engage in it.

What you seem to be missing in chiding Dovovan's father is that he was saying Donovan's grandfather is indeed Irish.

At least that's what I got of some earlier posts.

I'm sure he knows quite well about Celtic, etc.

Okay, I have no clue what this is about. But let me clarify that when I said he is as Irish as a Toco Bell, I meant that he would never be mistaken for a native of Dundalk. It was no comment on his ancestors.

Okay, now THAT'S funny. I get it now.

Well, if you saw the number of Landon Donovan posters in my son's room (all purchased by me) you would know how much I want your son to stay in San Jose until he is a very old man. Hell, I root for LD harder than any athlete in the world right now.

No offense meant at all. I hope my previous post makes it clear that I was not making any ethnic remarks--Landon strikes me as a prototypical California kid. That's what I meant and nothing more. I know nothing about his ethnic heritage.

As for the move, I said I was speculating--based on a couple of stray comments that Martin O'Neill had expressed interest in Donovan--that if a move was in the offing, they might be willing to make an offer. Just some idle chatter instead of work.

Thank you footfetish. I've been waiting to see "beautiful" & "Birmingham" in the same sentence for many years. Now, I'm off to write that novel.
