The Seleção is as unpopular in Brazil has it has ever been since I've been around. No one gives a crap if they are playing.

Now we wonder why they always play their friendlies outside of Brazil. Yet another reason, besides the most obvious one -- money.

Yes that is exactly right on the money Mengao.
As you know I was in Rio during the game and nobody, and I mean nobody was watching the game. I couldn't ********ing believe it! But when Mengao or Flu or Vasco played, everybody lined up in front of the street TV sets. Really sad.

Yes, that is the problem with playing away so much - it does not seem like 'your' team any longer. Well, blame the ********ing European clubs - the likes of Rummenigge and Wenger want fewer friendlies - and they do not wish the teams to play in South America unless it is for World Cup qualifiers or if it is outside the European league period. If some clubs had their way there would be no friendlies, qualifiers or World Cups! It does not help that some players did not play much in Brazil before going to Europe (David Luiz, Daniel Alves for example) - so no have affinity with say a Atletico Mineiro fan who perhaps had Cerezo (before he went to Roma), Saint Taffarel before he went to Italy, etc.

All that said though, I contribute to 3 forums and I have rarely 'met' a race who are so negative about their team (understandable currently), uncaring and pure 'anti' than Brazilian fans. People have said to me don't go to watch this team because Mano is the manager, they are not as good as 1970 etc. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. I SUPPORT the team come what may - I can't choose the manager or players but I support those wearing the shirt (even if I won't BUY the shirt because I hate the fact they will be changing it every year over the coming years!). Admittedly, I am in a lucky position in that they play distances away from me that involve an hour or three of travelling.

What websites do you guys use for coverage (articles and/or video)? I have only been using Globo, but apparently it might not be good for everything.

espn.com.br is the best site, IMO.

How can we support the damn team when they play at 4 pm in a working day? That is a much bigger insult than playing in London all the time.

I think this may be a southern phenom.

People up north definitely were watching in overwhelming numbers.

Well, it's not like the northern clubs can compete internationally or have any decent runs so it's normal that does people will kiss up to the Selecao more than others. For most of us we live our clubs day in and day out. People from the north have their club there but they always have a club from Rio or SP who they cheer for as well. So those so called fans are not the real deal anyways.

Of course they are real fans. The best atmosphere I had in a stadium was in Recife in 1994 x Argentina - it was OVER full that day. The Selecao have been well supported in the past in the north in Castelao, Fortaleza (118,000!) and other venues. I think the Selecao should play all their games up there. People in RJ and SP seem blase about them playing and are too quick to get on their backs - and people in RS seem to prefer Germany! The Gauchos can stick to their fanaticism for Gremio and Inter and forget the Selecao if they wish. The Selecao can live without them.

    Are you sure?!

I was actually talking about the fans. If you Guachos are not interested in supporting the Selecao then the Selecao can cope without you.

Hey, I'm pretty sure if that if we were running by ourselves we would have already won at least 1 wc, perhaps 2. So I'm not impressed by the names. The northern fans are crap 1x1 with the southern ones. They have no chants, they have no spirit. Inter or Gremio fan base alone are way more of an asset than the entire north/ northeast and northwest fan bases put together. All they got is "Sou brasileiro, com muito orgulho com muito amor!" the entire match. They got no chants, they got no banners, colors or flags. Put 65 thousand Brasilians from the north in a stadium with 10 thousand Argentinos, Uruguayans or Gauchos and they will sit down and watch the show. It's a fact, and everyone knows it.

OK, so you have more songs - wow! I would bet that if the Selecao played in the north the ground would either be full or have a greater ratio of people to capacity than if they played in Gaucholandia!

Anyway, this has all got nothing to do with the Bosnia game!

I wouldn't bet on it, but I'd say that the fact they have no games to watch year round has something to do it with. We have Libertadores games here that really are the most important thing all year, over watching some crappy friendly setup by CBF.

I can only repeat what I said, if you Gauchos have no interest in the Selecao then the country can cope and you can go away and concentrate on Gremio and Inter. In fact, anyone more interested in booing them when they go and watch (when they eventually play at home) might as well stay at home - the players don't need that. And if you personally are not interested in "crappy friendlies" or the Selecao then I have no idea why you post in Selecao threads.
