God is natural, and man is artificial? Wow, that's ********ed up.

Bear in mind, many of us recognize there is no god. Just something made up by man.

Cool story. If people really believed that, why are parents gutted when they "lose" a child?

No, I've always been curious why religious people are upset when close family members of theirs die and get transported from a shitty existence (in their opinion) to paradise.

because religious people tend to be humans - in general, and as such, they have human emotions and human tendencies. selfishness is among them. they look at the passing of a close friend or family member from a selfish perspective. they see the fact that they lost a dear friend or a family member, not that the sufferings of that person are over.

Everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to leave just yet.

That said, I'm surprised anyone still listens to Rush Limbaugh. He's so 1994.

Fair enough. It just seemed to me like you were responding seriously to what looked to be a sarcastic post.

Or maybe my sarcasm detector is messed up.

Well, when my niece lost her two-month old, she actually took comfort in her belief that he was with the angels.

    So ******** you.

    Exactly.

I am surprised anyone needs to be told this. Regardless of your perspective on God or lack of a God, the person is either in the afterlife or no life. The tears are shed for the people who are still here and selfishly want the person here with him or her.

I think religious belief does comfort people when their loved ones die. But you don't have to be religious or accept any particular dogma in order to have a hope that you'll see your loved ones again. You just have to be willing to think beyond the material, and doing so doesn't mean that the material world is shitty, as you put it.

I sometimes feel my brother, and I have the hope that he's in a better place and we may yet meet again. But still I mourn him, I'm still upset that he is gone, because I miss him and because we had some awesome times together while sharing this present "shitty" existence.

Yeah, I don't get that, he's so out of style. I thought the 21st century was all about hating the rich, not women or minorities.

Key findings: more religious or those who have faith have longer lifespans than those without faith/religiosity and tend to be less depressed.

That name might ring a bell for some of you. Hillsdale is what some would call a "conservative arts" college in Michigan. Like it's ideological compatriot in Pennsylvania, Grove City, they pride themselves on not taking any government funds (including financial aid) which means they're free of Gov't regulations. And here's coverage of a scandal that rocked that fine, upstanding college in Michigan some 12 years ago:

    http://www.salon.com/2000/01/19/hillsdale/

In November, another right-wing wolf cloaked in family values sheepskin was unzipped to the American public. George Roche III resigned as president of conservative Hillsdale College in Michigan after accusations of a quasi-incestuous relationship with his daughter-in-law, Lissa.

On the morning of Oct. 17, 42-year-old Lissa and her husband, George Roche IV, visited the 64-year-old Roche at the hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for diabetes. With her husband and father-in-law as witnesses, Lissa claimed that she and the elder Roche had been off-and-on lovers for 19 of the 21 years she and her husband had been married. Lissa returned to her campus house after the confession and armed herself with a .38-caliber handgun. She walked out of her backyard and through the college’s arboretum to a stone gazebo, a secluded location where students once went to relax, guzzle a few beers or liaise with members of the opposite sex. There, Lissa ended her life.

Earlier in the year, George Roche III had shocked Hillsdale by divorcing his wife of 44 years (who had cancer) and remarrying five months later. Lissa, according to George IV in an interview with National Review, was very disturbed by the presence of a new woman in her father-in-law’s life. On Nov. 9, with the story breaking in the national media, Roche resigned after 28 years as Hillsdale’s president.

“We have proved that integrity, values and courage can still triumph in a corrupt world,” he wrote in his letter of resignation. “Hillsdale College is a monument to those beliefs.” His statement made no reference to the firestorm raging at Hillsdale.

Roche is rumored to have bailed out with a golden parachute. The college refuses to confirm the amount of his retirement package, but a member of the Roche family puts the figure at $3 million.

Hmmmm. It's clear why they would stand by Rush, given that history.

I thought it was about hating Muslims, immigrants and the environment.

Do dittoheads sit around in their overall shorts, flannel shirts and Tommy Hilfiger with their ballcaps worn backwards and reminisce about when Limbaugh was relevant while cooking on their George Forman grills?

Do they poignantly watch their VHS tapes of True Lies, Dumb & Dumber and
Clear and Present Danger followed by reruns of X Files, NYPD Blue and Frasier remembering their hero's salad days? Well, probably not Frasier...

Do they pine for the days when Britaney Spears was still underage while listening to Ace of Base, Sheryl Crow, John Michael Montgomery and Crash Test Dummies?

As a public service to dittoheads who want to relive the glory years, go here:

If this guy looses his network he will still do his show, albeit imaginary, from his basement and blow up to 700 lbs. He will soon be using a yardstick to push the buttons. In the end they will have to dismantle the house to remove his month old corpse.
