Cruzeiro signs another Chilean international, Tapia: http://oglobo.globo.com/online/plantao/141916240.asp Now there are 2 foreigners in Cruzeiro this year, the Chileans Maldonado and Tapia. Aristizábal (Colombia) had left them early this year to join Coritiba for the Libertadores, where he still is last time I checked. Felipe Baloy (Panama) continues with Grêmio and Petkovic (Serbia & Montenegro) is back with Vasco da Gama. Any other foreigners with Brazilian clubs for 2004?
Paysandu has just signed an Argentinian player named Carlos Alberto Galván, 30, Defender. Previously played for: Racing - Argentina Argentinian National Squad Atlético Mineiro - Brasil Santos - Brasil Lanús - Argentina I'll let the fans from the other teams post their respective players.
Sure, he is. And there is Muñoz with Palmeiras, Lugano with São Paulo, Liberman or Loscri (I dont remember which one) with Guarani. Gávilan with Inter. There might be more than these ones.
Muñoz (Colombia) Lugano (Uruguay) Gávilan is from Paraguay, right? I remembered that their #1 keeper Tavarelli is also with Internacional. That Guarani player, where is he from?
de colombia tenemos: Leon Dario Muñoz (palmeiras) after 5 seasons, a discovery player from pre-olympic quals in Londrina (player from atletico nacional) Freddy Rincon still running the mid field at 37 yrs of age Hugo aristizabal - coritiba's goleador (product of atletico nacional) there is also a Young promess from The USA with atletico Paranaense lower division, U19 that visited texas for DALLAS CUP LAST YEAR, and run away with the title of that division. I forgot the name
Liberman is from Paraguay and Loscri from Argentina. But one of them is not in Guarani anymore. Anda Tavarelli is with Grêmio.
Aristizabau Aristzabau is playing for Coritiba in 2004. He is the has the record of goals of a foreigner in the Brazilian Championship with 44 goals. This title belong to Ficher (Botafogo) up to Ari came to play in Brazil. Ari is a real goal-man, a danger to keepers.
There's Petkovic from Serbia & Montenegro who has achieved some success with Brazilian clubs recently.
Talking about europeans in brazilian football: I think one italian midfielder already played in Palmeiras during mid-90's, right on the beginning of Parmalat Era. But I can't remember his name. He wasn't a great player, either.
Did you know that Diego Maradona was offered to Portuguesa - SP in the early 70´s? I read it some time ago...
Botafogo-RJ signs an Argentine to help them get out of the mud. http://oglobo.globo.com/especiais/brasileiro2004/mat/142751964.asp
Tapia (Chile) in Santos Chilean international keeper Tapia is the newest foreign addition to Brazilian club football. He's now playing for Santos.
Alexander "pequeño" Rondon is going to Sao Paulo on a loan until December with the option for buying him. Rondon played in Dep. Tachira, scored 3 goals in Copa Libertadores, he's also the #9 of the Venezuelan national team. I'm amazed that he is going to Sao Paulo. This is the good things I've seen from him: - Uruguay 0-3 Venezuela: He didn't score, but he was key in this victory. He was the only forward and were able to take the ball from him just a few times. - Fox Sports Espanol commentator absolutely love Rondon, they kept on calling him Romario-BetoAcosta-Rondon and they kept on saying that he was the best forward of the tournament together with Luis Fabiano and Cavenaghi. Good luck Rondon, I hope that he opens the path for other venezuelans (I hope is Jobanny Rivero, CaracasFC)
Tevez signed by Corinthians Tevez is one of the biggest signings of a foreigner by a Brazilian club so far. So do you think Corinthians and the Argentine international can make a good partnership? How long before he goes to Europe? IMO Corinthians is being used just as a catapult here.
Re: Tevez signed by Corinthians They are using each other, which is perfect. As long as everyone is on the same page its perfectly fine. He will be in Europe 12-18 months max.
Corinthians fans need to stop celebrating if Tevez doesn't stay for at least 18 months. Why? Copa Libertadores. Simple as that. They aren't going to be in next year's tournament and with Tevez joining the team for 2005, they'll need to win either Copa do Brasil or the 2005 Brazilian championship for the 2006 edition. Tevez is a very talented player; I dare say more than Robinho or Diego, and the only Brazilian of late who can match him is Kaká; but, Kaká did not achieve in SPFC what Tevez won in Boca Juniors. Speculation is mounting now because the investors who put up the cash to bring Tevez to Brazil are now talking about getting River Plate's Mascherano. There are even rumors that Corinthians will try to seduce former Boca coach Carlos Bianchi. It may be a long shot, but anyone who knows a thing about Bianchi is aware that one thing Bianchi has long said he wanted to do as a professional soccer coach is to coach in Brazil. If Corinthians get other heavyweight talents to build a team AND a coach of Bianchi's caliber, then the hordes of favelados may after all celebrate the conquest of America. But it won't be easy if all they do is bring Tevez. As good as he is, the current Corinthians squad doesn't compare to the 2003 Boca Juniors team, which had a lot of experience and team chemistry. With serious reinforcements AND Bianchi as coach (or Vanderlei Luxemburgo; he is also a target of MSI), THEN and ONLY THEN can Carlos Tevez be expected to have an impact on Corinthians comparable to his time in Boca. If not, expect lots of fancy soccer but few titles, no Libertadores, and Tevez playing in UEFA – at the latest, after the 2006 World Cup.
Re: Tevez signed by Corinthians This is still a strange move to me. I know the clubs in Sao Paulo are run way better than the clubs in Rio, but I still wouldn't trust Brasilian soccer. I hate to say it. There is just an unstable nature to things. Every so often some club signs a big sponshorship deal and starts talking about building a super team. I remember a few years ago Flamengo was going to sign Baggio and lure Ronaldo back to Brasil. Carlos Tevez is sitting on a winning lottery ticket. He can sign a big deal in Europe where you are guaranteed to actually be paid on time, the clubs don't changes coaches every five minutes and you don't have to worry about your family members being kidnapped. It is just a more professional environment.
Re: Tevez signed by Corinthians I would agree with you if the choice is strictly Brasil vs. Europe, but he may have other issues he wants to deal with now (such as getting out of Argentina), and Boca management had to make a strategic decision. Based on articles in Ole and LaNacion, Tevez is convinced that life in BA has become untenable for him at this moment. [Whether he is delusional or not I can't say]. This had led to steadily deteriorating relationship with management. So you have Boca with a player who is not happy and not performing as he has in the past (which can't help his future stock). They must have concluded, after trying to salvage the relationship (whether they did enough I can't say), that Tevez' value was as high as it was going to be, especially if he continues to show a dip in form due to personal issues. Then, Boca receives a whopping $20-25 million dollar bid that dwarfs any recent European based offers. They did the smart thing and sold. As for Tevez, he's not on a free-pass yet, so if he wants out of his situation that badly he's got to go where Boca gets its best bid. The Paulistao is very well run, and the Brasileiro is gaining stability by the day (actually since it became a tournament a ponto corrido, its been great IMO). You do correctly point out that personal safety will continue to be an issue for him in Brasil....but its no greater of a risk than in Argentina at the moment. In terms of getting paid on time, the funds are now being guaranteed by an outside source. I would assume that his financial advisors have done their due diligence on this matter. Plus he gets his cut of the transfer fee up front...and its a nice payout for a year's commitment (my assumption being he will be gone within a year's time). Based on a the assumption of a 12 month spell, its not the end of the world for him. [The rest of my post comes from a contribution to the Argentine forum...too tired to paraphrase it, so excuse my quoting myself] There's no denying a European move would have been the less risky approach for Tevez.
